I believe the Nickelodeon logo we're all familiar with debuted arond 1987 or 1988. I believe the old "crystal ball" logo was still in effect in 1984.

@ClearwaterMK2 SpongBob was and is the NEW GIMMICK. I like the show for the first 3 seasons but now it is just about hype and spectacle ......most of the people watching that show and buying it's merchandise are not even REAL FANS they are just following what is popular. The real fans made it a hit then the loser band wagon hoppers joined in as usal. I like the show but it's fame is a little over the top becuz it is a sitcom and un sophisticated people can understand it. like reality tv
