  • well this is definately not thai boxing

  • very good

  • Hes a Kyokushin Black belt, nuff said

  • well even still im just saying that the side kick does exist in muay thai. I don't necessarily fight under MT rules either but it's my primary style next to sanshou.

  • who says the side kick doesn't exist in muay thai?

  • @2bjjones Not muai thai, but kickboxing. JLB never fought under MT rules for as far as I know. His entire career was in the K1, or European kickboxing promotions.

  • @2bjjones Not muai thai, kickboxing. That's the style shown here. Also, JLB has never fought under MT rules to my knowledge. He's from a European kickboxing background, participating mostly in the K1 organisation.

  • man he's got thick legs

  • Maybe should be more flexible to kick correct. But so what.

  • the side kick isnt a damaging kick in real fights, its mostly a push to keep distance.Lebanner has never used that kick in any k1 fight and neither has anyone else.

  • @billysue2 The side kick is one of the more powerful kicks in Taekwondo. It's my favorite one to use b/c it pierces right through the target. The form this guy has in the video doesn't look too great though.

  • @SamuraiAdmirer the kick is ineffective to the head like he shows. Its also only mildly effective to the body in any real fight, tkd doesnt qualify as any type of real fight.Ive 17 years experience in itf tkd and lots of kickboxing matches and nobody ever went down from it,its a push.

  • @billysue2 I use it to knock people down or knock the wind out of them. It's not just used to keep distance.

  • @SamuraiAdmirer if you can knockdown people with this kick..its either they are inexperienced or you're bullshitting. i think its both.

  • @SamuraiAdmirer If you run into the sidekick to the body you can go down and maybe break a rib. But you have to be explosive then. I would prefer the spinning side kick. Much more power then, certainly a ko kick.

  • @billysue2 Actually, the side kick can be a very powerful kick, especially to the body. I don't really know what you're on about. Aiming for the solar plexus or the pit of the stomach, you can easily take the wind out of someone. If your side kick is only a push, that doesn't mean everyone's is. Perhaps you just don't have good explosiveness with your hips. Some people's teeps are just pushes too--and some people use the teep like a hard jab to the gut.

  • @SamuraiAdmirer he's doing it light cos usually when you train kicks on a partner instead of a bag you pull them if he threw them at a 100% his partner would be injured. or a real fight would break out lol.

  • With the right leg he's doing it good, but with the left leg he cant do it correctly

  • anderson silva is a muay thai and he never get hit. and lyoto has a diferent kind of karate,in brazil we call this '' the machida carate'' that is realy diferent

  • OK ppl he is a pro fighter i think he knows his kicks!!!

  • are you just saying that because machida is good at not getting hit?

the only karate I know of that emphasizes sparring is called kyokushin and they basically square off and trade hits

  • lol no because i used to do karate, and i know its strategies

  • I thought the karate strategy was hit them once and they die

  • Yes that is best but you will get hit. No one can avoid it for long. And if you can't take a hit then you will eventually lose.

  • who says that u wouldnt be able to take a hit? its all about training hard too right? train hard and pick any style you want to fight with.

  • Read and understand what was written. I said "IF" you can't take a hit. "IF, IF IF".

  • that is not the strategy, in thai you train to harden your body, and take the least amount of damage possible and when you can't avoid taking damage force them to take damage as they inflict it and counter to cause more damage then they caused, this is why you check kicks and punches with your elbows and knees/shins then counter

  • Yeah they get paid because they can do it better than everyone else

  • 6.3 F Tall 260 Lbs! nasty french dude!

  • lol. .u need to be more energetic in order to fight alive

  • yeaah my friend jerome le banner cant kick ass of kimbo, mothafucka,go jerome, kick his ass

  • Yeah, my karate school puts a big emphasis on good side kicks like this (not that I have near this good a form). As for the toe thing, its just one of those "how far do you rotate your hips" things. We have a few guys that like to really rotate and turn it more into a back kick. Superb power, and a little safer, really hard to grapple a back kick.

  • It happens when you use ur foot correctly.. sometimes they move their forearm 'down' onto your toes...*OUCH*

  • you not supposed to do a sidekick withyour toes...

    you kick with your heel

  • you can do a side kick with your toes, the ball of your foot, your heel, or the blade of your foot, doesnt matter as long as you do the kick.

  • The toes would hurt like a dozen bitches on a bitch boat.

  • thats being driven by a bitch

  • in the international bitch boat racing contest :-)

  • lol

  • Excellent Kick. I wish ppl would use this kick more often in Muay Thai

  • You're right. Jerome Le Banner learned quite a bit from a book he purchased as a youngster on Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do. He learned how to fight with his strong side forward, and as demonstrated here, he learned a practical technique that many people haven't seen.

  • the problem with the side kicks is you hurt your foot when the opponent blocks with his elbows. I hurt my toes a lot of times.

  • Is there any kick that isn't prone to be intercepted with the elbows btw? Getting checked with the knees & elbows are pretty normal.

  • yea kicks to the sternum area. kind of inbetween most ppl's comfortable block zone.

  • I thought the striking surface for the side kick was the heel of the foot or, in some cases, the blade edge.

  • Depending on the target you would use the blade or the heel. You shouldn't ever use your toes. That's just a push kick and pretty much useless when sidekicks are supposed to be power kicks. Trust me, you'll like the impact more and you won't have trouble with elbows.

  • my fault, i meant the blade edge.

  • beginner..real ones use the heel..

  • In specific martial arts. grow up, and research more then one dicipline.
