She called for a vote of acclamation -- basically, instead of doing the roll call (wherein he would get enough votes halfway through, and the rest of the delegates would not have the opportunity to voice their votes) they would all vote "aye" or "no" at once.
This was the Clinton's finest hour. It doesn't matter what happened before or that she had lost... she could've just let the vote continue and made it harder for Barack to win in November but both her and her husband who went on stage a few minutes later chose to put party before pride. Procedurally speaking, if any one delegate at the convention would have requested a roll call or regular vote for the motion, it is supposed to be taken, or at least voted on whether to take a roll call vote which requires (1/5). That's why Pelosi didn't pause to hear any nays, because if she would have heard one, it is her responsiblity as chair to recognize and take a more accurate vote. This stuff is all theatre now, anyway.

As a Democrat from Brooklyn, NY and a ful fledged Hillary supporter for which many of her ideals and policies have ot only touched but have changed my life, there is no way on god's green earth would I ever vote for Mccain or Palin. Everyone has right to choose and vote based on their own convictions. That is what the purpose of having equal rights and a voice to choose is for, however my vote will go to Barack and Biden. During the campaign, Obama treated Hillary with no respect. It was shameful. If Hillary had been a man it would have been a different story. No one would have badgered such a man into stopping his run for the White House. I know it was a dissapointment for a lot of people but I think, after seeing Joe's speech, that he brings more to the ticket over all and fills in Obama's weaknesses. After seeing her and Barack go at it in the primaries, I don't think many would have been convinced they could work together in that capacity. I'm sure she'll do great things in his administration though!

She called for a vote of acclamation -- basically, instead of doing the roll call (wherein he would get enough votes halfway through, and the rest of the delegates would not have the opportunity to voice their votes) they would all vote "aye" or "no" at once.

This was the Clinton's finest hour. It doesn't matter what happened before or that she had lost... she could've just let the vote continue and made it harder for Barack to win in November but both her and her husband who went on stage a few minutes later chose to put party before pride. Procedurally speaking, if any one delegate at the convention would have requested a roll call or regular vote for the motion, it is supposed to be taken, or at least voted on whether to take a roll call vote which requires (1/5). That's why Pelosi didn't pause to hear any nays, because if she would have heard one, it is her responsiblity as chair to recognize and take a more accurate vote. This stuff is all theatre now, anyway.

When I experienced Hillary's call to interrupt the roll call vote and nominate Barack Obama by acclamation at the DNC; I wept. Hillary was my president. I voted for Hillary in the VA primary. The campaign has been long and hard and we have now come to the pinnacle of our pilgrimage. Some how I feel relieved that it is now upon us. I am now ready. America is now ready. We have no distraction. We have no alternative. We have no excuses.

We don't live in the 1960s anymore buddy. Race no longer divides us the way it used to. We have made great strides on your soil to make every "sub-human" able to have the same rights as you "superiors".
