u know....when i read the manga i can see a noble heart in herself when she sacrifice to kill lucy but in the anime they make her like the craziest girl till the end O_O
This theme fits Mariko's personality so well, she makes herself seem so helpless and pitiful that you want to cry for her, and then once your guard is down she reveals what she truly is and people start getting flayed alive.
Lets think for a second.... were the diclonius girls really evil? Or were they simply victims of humanity's rage that unleashed their killer instinct.

@TheInvadingKittens 10 episodes of what? Chobits? Yea, I've seen about 12-13 myself. Netflix has 27 episodes of it...I guess the show is actually 24 episodes...The other 3 episodes are actually OVA. The full set on eBay is like $115 dollars. A bit expensive...but it's 7 discs, the show is discs 1-6. The 7th disc has special features on it including the 3 OVA. Can't remember which episodes they are but it's like episode 8.5, 11.5 etc.
She only wanted to see her father.....She did all of it because she thought Kurama would see her if he was impressed....Mariko is not evil...I honestly think she was adorable.

Regardless if it's in your nature to kill or not, you CAN control yourself. It's not easy most of the time...but with a lot of practice, training, self discipline...it can be done. In fact, Lucy DOES harbor some restraint. Despite the fact it was in her ''nature'' to kill...she was very reluctant to kill, especially after starting to fall for Kouta...she even asks him to kill her if she continued...but DOES fight the urge to kill especially when around him.
@ReignOfBrood it still seems suspicious to me, like you learned this first hand. Although im sitting here at 1 in the morning, lights off, listening to as many creepy songs as I can on repeat, Im a little antsy................

I wouldn't consider Elfen Lied a horror either...Although, there are times that may SEEM frightening to some...sure...still not really a ''horror'' per say. Anyway, I just like music...just about all music. Creepy music has a certain feel to it, it appeals to my ears even if it can be unsettling. Also, another good ''creepy'' track is '' Ninja Assassin - Skyscraper Rain'' check that out...it's awesome.

It is definitely a horror and is quite popular with some people, and 90% of the songs im listening to are from Higurashi....dont know why im listening to creepy music at 1:30 in the morning but....so long as I can get another person to watch an awesome show before I die then I should be happy. Higurashi has a dub but theres also Higurashi Kai and Rei that only have subs
@jawsTeh I have a couple of other Anime I would recommend you watching. ''Claymore'' and ''Blassreiter''. If you considered Elfen Leid to be horror you might find those 2 to be a bit spooky. Claymore is 26 straight episodes and probably more creepy as Blassreiter. Both are sad and creepy but Blassreiter is definitely more sad. It's worth checking them out...both have awesome music too.

@JonnaJacobsen1995 I loved the pictures just before she blows up, showing what kind of life she would of had if she just lived with her father normally, although she was able to tear a security guard apart in a split second in that same episode and that really doesnt help her case.
People may Like Lucy, but Mariko had, in my opinion, that bloodiest, most *insert killer word here* kill in the whole series, its in the last episode and its just glazed over without a second thought. SHE JUST COMPLETE DESTROYS THE COP! his arms, legs, and Head are all ripped off simultaneously
At the beginning you get the feeling ''Aaww, it sounds so sad..'' but then around 0:45 its like ''.. Wait.. What's that sound.'' its kinda like heartbeat. And then at 1:25 you got the ''Oh shit'' kinda feeling XD Like, you're screwed (silly huh?). It's not simply a matter of whether she could control herself or not, it had to do with baser instinct, and not all the characters in Elfen Lied suck. They have a wide range of personalities and temperaments, much like in real life, especially in the manga, with characters like Noriko, Kouta, and Nana, who were all good

I watched Elfen Lied about a year ago, so I don't exactly remember all the details, but she was kept locked up because of how dangerous she was. So it wasn't necessarily her fault.

So she knows that humans are capable of love and compassion. Mariko knows nothing of this. But understands it better then Lucy.

At the beginning you get the feeling ''Aaww, it sounds so sad..'' but then around 0:45 its like ''.. Wait.. What's that sound.'' its kinda like heartbeat. And then at 1:25 you got the ''Oh shit'' kinda feeling XD Like, you're screwed (silly huh?). At the 2:07 I got a feeling like something was chasing me (2:20 'ops, knocked something down while running').
Hrrr. Scary music indeed. :'D

I think she would have been just as nice as her other self(Nyu)if she was treated properly like a normal human being.

The anime was interesting, but the characters kinda suck. I know there's probably gonna be a ton of people who disagree but everyone can control their own actions. Lucy could've controlled them. I know she went through so much, but so have I. Not all humans deserve to die.

Actually no Lucy couldn't have. I disagree with you. You see Lucy is a Diclonius and it's in her nature to kill humans, to advance her race. It's not simply a matter of whether she could control herself or not, it had to do with baser instinct, and not all the characters in Elfen Lied suck. They have a wide range of personalities and temperaments, much like in real life, especially in the manga, with characters like Noriko, Kouta, and Nana, who were all good

Definitely Mariko's theme :) I love her. can be so sweet but so sadistic in her childish way. All she wanted in the world is to be out of that dark room and live happily with mommy and daddy; to live something of a normal life. instead she gets killed cause she wasn't human and that she was too dangerous. :/

Finally, thank you. Why does everyone hate her? Really, I don't think anyone should be hated in the anime; they all have reasons for being the way they are. I didn't hate Yuka, but she was one of the ones who was closest to not having a reason. But seriously; why hate on Mariko? D': It's not as if she knew how to treat people, after all that time being locked away.

@web2122 it's kind of a weird story............. she killed a whole bunch of people and she's kind of a more advanced dyclonious; she has more vectors and they're all really really long.
I watched Elfen Lied about a year ago, so I don't exactly remember all the details, but she was kept locked up because of how dangerous she was. So it wasn't necessarily her fault.

@Medria2 Sure she kills, but doesn't mean she's not innocent... She's actually pretty more miserable then the other 2, because she's been in the lab for 5 years. Like later when she's out she finds out her dad is the one helping the humans and that he's helping a different diclonious, when that should've been her... Then she dies, so really, she's just lost.

I hate Lucy with a passion! Love Nyu she's so pretty! Lucy looks like an older woman and paler? Do you guys notice that? Anyway, Nana is the best Diclonius! She's the best in combat. She only losses because of her lack of killer instinct. I wish Sanban was kool too. I understand Mariko's personality more then Lucy's. Lucy lived in the real world. So she knows that humans are capable of love and compassion. Mariko knows nothing of this. But understands it better then Lucy.
