That Bari sax solo at the end was annoying, although I'm the the Bari sax players that watched this were impressed. All the other solos, including the previous solo from the Bari sax player, were nothing short of spectacular.
That baritone saxophonist knows what and how he's doing. Extremely well, that is. I have played almost every day for several years, still I cannot play half of those altissimo tones, nor can I play a melody with those I do know.
is it weird that i can both listen to this and hard dubstep music and still think they're equally amazing like in here i love it when they just do something funky while dubstep gives me a hard bass i crave. Is that weird?
is it wierd that i can both listen to this and hard dubstep music and still think they're equally amazing like in here i love it when they just do something funky while dubstep gives me a hard bass i crave. Is that wierd?
@BlakesterMan It happens to some trumpet players sometimes. Muscle tears from the air flow i believe so it does it naturally after that. It takes a long time for it to get like that though (just what I've heard)
@MultiAC130 Yes it is in 4/4. It starts of in a slow moderate 4 then goes into cut time/double time/fast four. I listen to this clip all the time. I love watching and listening to these master of the art give their own personal interpretation of this piece. One can almost live the lives of these men through the feeling and sounds that they produce. Magnificent!!!!
This piece is Absolutely Beautiful as it is.But when two masters of Jazz and Blues,And Experts play it.It just leaves you,Speechless.Amazing Video. :)
@laduzi2 I'm guessing you mean Dizzy's "Bent" trumpet. It was an accident because someone sat on his trumpet. But he liked the change in the tone and the comfort of playing so he had his other trumpets made like that.
@musicgod2012 I actually think both of his solos are hard to listen to. I don't like the sound of the bari up that high. To me it sounds like a dying cat
@TheTimPelltier Sure haha. Personally I think he's just having way too much fun. But everything wasn't altissississimo wasn't bad you have to admit right?
@drummerjmp OK first off, anything with notes is music...the wind blowing in the wind, is music. So your statement isnt correct. but most importantly Metallica can't even compare to how much talent this takes to do
@drummerjmp Metallica didn't alone make a new sub genre of music like Dizzy. Her name was Bebop. And quit trolling we all have different tastes in music. All different types of music have haves and have not. Lastly it is music , music is just a controlled and organized pattern of sound; organized noise.
Since everyone's raving about Sayyd, I suggest everyone looks up Ronnie Cuber, Dennis DiBlasio, Gary Smulyan, Nick Brignola, Gerry Mulligan, Art Pepper, and Harry Carney, just to name a few greats on the Bari.
All those interest in bari sax - find Denis DiBlasio. In many circles, considered one of the best in the world on baritone sax... but also a scatter of perfection. He was Maynard Ferguson's music director for years - video's are here in You Tube... checkout the ones with Maynard first.
@calarooni He had a condition where the skin of his cheeks separated from his muscles. His cheeks gradually starting poofing more as he got older. It wasn't like he was actually pushing his cheeks out, it just happened when he played.
@calarooni from what i've heard it's not that he LET them puff out, it's that he had some kind of damage in his neck/cheeks which made that happen. Not a lack of technique.
This is one of those performances I'll remember the rest of my life even if I live to 100, being it's the first time I'd ever heard Arturo Sandoval. Heard it first around 1985 on Maryland Public TV.
Remarkable, outstanding, brilliant, out of this world, fabulous all of them! An incredible array of musicians and especially the Baritone player: out of this world! We miss Dizzy a lot and he created, mentored and left an incredible bebop legacy! As he said: to be or not to bop and here it can hardly get better than that: Enjoy!! BPG
@L3giiit He hits a few his A's (talking concert pitch here) first, then he goes above that from a hi Bb up to an Eb (a Perfect 4th above the Bb) which is the 5th to the root of Eb dom 7th chord in that part of the tune. I was fortunate to play a concert with Arturo. I also met/warmed up for Dizzy in the Syracuse, NY JazzFest before he passed. Great trumpet players both.
Arturo Sandoval is just incredible. I had dinner with him the other day after a concert, and he's got a great sense of humor and an insane passion for music. I have so much respect for that man.
