I known strange people, but who wants to have fun?

  • im playing this shit right now on a website.

  • Can you tell me how to save game progress on Zork? I type save, but then it tells me "Insert save disk then enter file name." What do I enter??

  • @yusdaman93 You enter the file name you want the save to be called. To load the game, type in restore, then the file name you called the save.

  • This is on Black Ops

  • haha this is on black ops (as an easter egg) and when i told my friends about it we were all playingithelping each other out. we didnt even play the actual game we justplayed zork the entire time... its so interesting.

  • LOL Really! The first thing for the File 'Life' is Democrat Porn!? You gotta be kiddin'me! XDD

  • @ 0:21 is that first thing in the directory Democrat Porn?!?!?!

  • wow... I wanted to see how to play ZORK because it is unlockable on CoD Black Ops. I was very confused when I first tried to play it... but, now Im starting to wonder if I can even play this game. The idea is sweet, but it takes to long to type on the PS3 or XBOX and the font is to small to read.

  • @ro19911 haha me to

  • @ro19911 you can plug in a desktop keyboard in where the cargers go for the controllers, thats how i play on B.O

  • You can play this game in COD: Black ops :) Go to the PC in the main menu, and type "zork"

  • Can't...stop...laughing!!!

  • LOL it says C:"something" Porn>cd/

  • Want some rye? COURSE YA DO!

  • Why does it say Democrat Porn?

  • you can play this in the new COD game lol

  • Does that say "Democrat Porn" at the beginning?

  • Zork is one of the best video games I have played in my life. You must have bad taste, I assume.

  • Cool. I played this before. Did you ever win the game? It does take a lot of thought and patience to get through it --especially nowdays with attention-spans being what they are. The game is as long as your typical graphical game today.

    Thanks for the vid.

  • @Dirtfire Nah, I've never beat it. I couldn't really tell you how far I've gotten either since I've restarted it and messed around with it countless times.

  • @capgamer the version I had back in the '80s allowed you to get hints by typing 'hint', but your version seems to be a little different since it doesn't ask you if you want a blue background instead of a black.

However, I think I can still remember the solution to nearly every puzzle, since I have played the game frequently over the years, the last time being several years ago.

  • @capgamer The Zork and Infocom games were the first video games with stories. And they required the player to do a little more than modern games. You made maps as you went, usually boxes with lines coming out of whatever direction the game told you passages left the room...and wrote down what items were where. I kinda miss that kind of participation in a game...modern games do all of that for you. The game isn't really as hard as you think...keep it simple and don't over think and you'll be ok.

  • lol i love this game play it all the time.

  • You can go to the Games section of TheWorldFrenzy and play the whole Trilogy! Enjoy

  • lolololololololol... thought can't kill trees!?!?@11!!?!!?

  • Comment removed

  • does anyone were i can get this or download it from, for free if possible.

  • Search Zork 1 on Google. It is literally the first result that comes up. :)

  • @TheREMhq go to iplayif.com and type in "zork", you'll find a public domain version.

  • I miss DOS...

  • Play Beyond Zork, and Look up Beyond Dork on Youtube!! Yeah!!

  • does anyone know of a game similar to zork???

  • Well, there are tons of text adventures if that's what you mean. Probably the best resource is Baf's Guide to the Interactive Fiction archive.

  • Yeah try Planet Fall!

  • Well there's the game that inspired Zork/Dungon - Adventure/Collisle caves, then there's what was to be Zork 4 Enchanter and it's two sequals Spellcaster and i forgot, Beyond Zork, Zork zero, the orginal Mit game "Dungeon" which you can find a complied version for Dos somewhere(which they broke down to make Zork 1 half of zork 2 and zork 3), if you want a challenge Madness and the minitour for the Tandy Color computer 2,

  • you can get Zork to run on windows, google infoc0m homepage.

  • o not 0.

  • i LOVED ZORK

    I MISS IT SO MUCH

  • @DaringGirlProduction

you can play it on the internet

  • @DaringGirlProduction get call of duty black ops they have zork in it its the original version of zork too its so fun

  • @RandomCrap202 oh thanx for the tip! ive tried the net versions they just arent as good

  • theres maps if you google

how u put sack in bottle LOL then garlic in SACK LOL

  • I think I still have a Zorkmid lying around somewhere...

  • This game rocks!

  • you know what, i kind of liked this game. lol!

  • oh my god, I wish I had been born early enough to have played this... As a kid, all I had was minesweeper and games like breakout that had graphics crappier than ET. Atleast you can imagine a pretty setting with text based games...

  • Ha ha. Well, I played a ton of DOS games and otherwise as a kid. I want to say that I played Zork at least once during those days.... but I can't remember since it was so long ago. It's before my time as well: released around '83 and I was born in '88.

  • Vindovs? Nailbox? Narrov? Wasn't the 'w' and 'm' invented at the time?

  • don't forget "ny"

  • ha ha , feed garlic to troll ...

    kiiss troll, all fun :-p

  • yesterday i found my cousins cd which had 6 full games on it, including all three zorks in the series, jet fighter, xanth and tower of souls plus an insane amount of demo games lol. i really like that cd.

  • This is the best game!

  • rofl this is hilarious! being an asshole is fun in these games. i laughed so hard when you put the sack in the bottle and then the garlic in the sack!

  • Zork 1 was the first computer game I played back in the early 80's when I was about 10 years old. Took me over a year to solve. Now days when I play World of Warcraft or Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, I'm amazed at how much technology has improved over the last 25 years, and I wonder what games will be like in 25 more... Startrek holodecks anyone?

  • ... Democrat porn?

  • dont question it... lol

  • Ha! Forgot about that. It's just a folder with a text file... taxes.txt

    :)

I think I made it to test some other program out. Don't really remember.

  • Awesome game! One of the best games out there! Think I might pick up a copy on Ebay too!

  • You should not have been spammed. Its abandonware. Unless the copyright has been refreshed/re bought, that is XD.

  • the uncycloedia version is funnier

  • Just got it on ebay after reading this, I had it and lost it. Hope to play again, loved Zork series.

    Great video :-)

  • Don't be modest... it's not boring at all. It's cool!

  • lol at slay ganon lol

  • Zork is great!

    goodbye

    >go northwest

  • Kill tree with thoughts... Awesome!

  • can anyone tell me where i can get that game? :D

  • Search "zork 1 download" on Google. It's the first result. It has instructions and everything.

  • 404 file not found.. =[

  • Well, it was working 3 days ago... Is there anything stopping you from trying the second result? Or am I supposed to spoon feed you another link when the game is easily available on probably 200+ English speaking sites, all indexed by Google (or your other favorite search engine) that you could find quite easily by dedicating slightly more than 10 seconds out of your day.

  • didnt work when i tryed it yesterday..

    thanks.

  • I love this game. Playing it right now. Quit funny at times. "kill self with hands" = "suicide is not the answer" lol XD

  • i rember doing that when i was little

  • I was messing around yesterday and found a "rape" command. Wonder who put THAT in there...

  • where did you download this game

  • Baf's guide to the interactive fiction archive. (GOOGLE!!!!!!)

  • I've never beaten it. I don't think I've ever gotten very far either. But it's fun to mess around with.

  • Zork was a major milestone in adventure games on the PC. Before I played Zork, I played Scott Adam's Adventures (Notably, Pirate's Isle) on the TI-994a, Spider-Man on the Apple II, and after Zork I played Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. All were completely text-based (some had limited graphics), you basically had to use your imagination. I still have the original Zork 1-3 box with a genuine Zorkmid coin somewhere.

  • Somebody else that remembers the TI-994A? i bet you had a casette drive too....

I agree 100%, next to Colossal Cave Adventure the Zork series, and indeed Infocom itself was a major influence on adventure and RPG gaming.

  • yeah definitely. I had a cassette recorder, and I even remember how it sounded too... like: big beeeeeeeeeeeeeeep bep belp bep belp bep belp.. etc... tick tick tick....

  • im playing it, its cool!!

  • YOU DON'T HAVE THE TREE D=

  • lol i saw DEMOCRAFT PORN AT BEGINING

  • i, too saw this porn int he beginning :D

  • Entertaining :) any chance of getting this in higher quality?

  • Good video would watch again A+++++

  • Zork!

Those were the days. This was cutting edge stuff.

I like the bit where you have to keep digging, and digging and digging.

Happy days, it was so much better when all the scenery was in your head....

..not really. Final Fantasy, now there's a game.

  • hahaha.... the garlic in the sack in the bottle made me laugh out loud.

  • I never played the original Zork... I only played Zork Nemesis, which in my opinion is probably the best of the series, since I read summaries and looked at gameplay of the more "Light hearted" Zork.

  • lol i remeber ths game i was like "hi"

    Nice weather were having latey!

  • I had this game on a 286 machine in 1983. 256 K of ram, 10 MB HD, 8 MHZ cpu (toggled).

  • LMAO

    >take the tree

    An interesting idea...

    XD

  • how did u bypass the 10 minute limit?

  • I dunno. The limit must actually be a little above 10 minutes, or else it may only be a file size limit and not a time limit.

  • You can crumple up the bag but you'll ruin the garlic if you try to stuff THAT in there.

  • I just skipped to half of it and i saw

    "take the egg"

    taken

    "kill the tree with it"

    lol

  • speaking of games like this, has anyone beaten rambo II on the apple?, text based game? HARD AS SHIT!

  • i wonder if this game is possable to beat

  • @topkid1988 I played it and I beat it. Great game, and it isn't a short one either.

  • lol i remember the time when i use the phrase:

    "kill me with hands"

it said that suicide wasnt the answer O.o

but this game was still awesome and confuseing

  • Imagination was and is the key.

  • It's all about gameplay evolution, people 30 years from now will laugh at the primitive graphical games you're playing that weren't even in holographic form. Infocom isn't so much a game as it is a written-word story, whose outcome you control.

  • yeah, I know (cant wait for that day), im just saying that I am trying to imagine this game bieng fun and I cant. I mean I find some of todays games boring and crappy. but hey, thats only my humble opinion. no need for the thumbs-down.

  • Awesome! This is so cool. Such awesome Special effects. And awesome sound. This is the best movie about an otter ever! I love the part with the hampsters!

  • I used to play this when I was a kid. It was the first game I got for the Apple II. I used to type random crap in just to see what would happen.

  • I see you had to attack the troll three times to kill him. Didn't you know you could just write 'kill troll' to kill him instantly? I usually find weird ways of killing myself like throwing the leaflet at my head (yes, you do actually die from that) or jumping off the house. Anyway, ZORK = Awesome game!

  • No I didn't know that! I have typed "kill troll" before but only ever as part of the phrase "kill troll with sword" which I believe works like "attack troll with sword" and doesn't kill it instantly. That's a nifty trick though.

  • Wow, I never knew about the "throw leaflet at head" thing, causing you to fall over and snap your neck, and I've owned the game for decades now. Thanks.

  • this is real gaming

  • anyone who are still playing it?

  • I'll boot it up now and then. I've never gotten very far in it, but that's because I don't want to read a walkthrough... :(

  • I play it from time to time. I too don't want to read a walkthrough, but it's a hard game compared to others in the same genre.

  • This game's too exciting and fast-paced for me.

  • I played some of these games as a kid. This semester I am having my 8th grade English students try Zork. They like it.

  • Ha! That's pretty cool.

  • Brings back a lot of memories, I was playing this game when I was in kindergarden and could never figure out how to get through the maze or what the dam was all about. Or the chasm, I think that was what I was most curious about. good times. and hell yes, someone finally put that damn program in its place. Garlic-ish success!

  • wow so it's true.. people actually played text based games... wow it wasn't a myth! hah ;-)

Thank you for posting this, read about this zork game for countless years now but never actually saw it.

  • Why are you typing "north" instead of "n"? You must just like to type or something.

  • Makes it easier for people to read what I'm doing, plus it makes more sense to go north than go "n."

  • Cool video, I played it far enough to get to the maze after killing the troll. I never had a funny type of mind to try things like that, I am kinda boring and I guess I set my mind in passing the game without, smelling the roses. Great video to look at, it is so funny how you can put garlic inside the sac that is inside the bottle... LOL!

  • open lock with leaves :D

  • I played this game before when I was 6. :P It was actually pretty fun. I played it at a summer camp and we amde a map or Zork. XD No lives.

  • oh my goodness, capgamer you must of had a Dad that played text adventure games on a commodore 64 to have posted this. Or possibly a trash 80.

  • HOW DO YOU KNOW ME?! Leave my family alone!

  • LOL.

Put the sack in the bottle.

    Done.

Put the garlic in the sack.

... Brilliant. I should have done that.

  • Yeah, using your frontal cortex instead of your medulla is soooo boring.

  • I beat Zork on Uncyclopedia once.

  • Yeah, you have to give him the egg cos only he can open it

  • oh my god

the thief was VERY difficult. You had to give him all your treasures to slow him down, otherwise he'd slice you

To say nothing of the lurking grues in the maze!

  • It's actually possible to kill the thief with the sword or axe the very first time you meet him, but it takes a lot of luck and doing so isn't a very good idea as then he can't open the mechanical egg and you can't beat the game.

  • hueva posted dis is so rite, It is so boring dat I had only just came over and posted dis about 5 secs after it started!!!

  • wtf was with the garlic and the sack and the bottle lol =). where can I get zork?

  • Just about anywhere now, even Newgrounds itself! (Last time I've saw).

  • You use the garlic to hold off a crazy giant vampire bat later in the game.

Just drop it in the room he resides in and he won't bother you.

  • ha ha i downloaded zork but i get stuck often
