ALDF Update Nov 2, 2011: Great news from Baton Rouge, LA: Judge Michael Caldwell has ruled in favor of the ALDF and LA taxpayers in lawsuit to free Tony the Tiger from the Tiger Truck Stop in Grosse Tete,LA. Caldwell agreed with ALDF's argument that the permit that allows Sandlin to keep Tony was unlawfully issued by the LDWF.

The judge ordered the LDWF to revoke current permit and prohibited issuance of any new permits to the Truck Stop."We are thrilled that the court made the right decision," says ALDF Exec Dir Stephen Wells. "We will continue to do everything we can to make sure Tony's next home is a reputable, accredited sanctuary that can give Tony the life he deserves."

The court has scheduled two new hearings in the Tony the Tiger case. On October 17th, the court will hear the State’s exceptions, which challenge the plaintiffs’ standing to bring the case. On November 2nd, the court will hear ALDF’s motion for a permanent injunction to revoke the permit that lets Michael Sandlin confine Tony at the Tiger Truck Stop.

ALDF lawyers were in court today to defend against Sandlin's attempt to get our case dismissed. In another victory for Tony, the judge denied Sandlin's motion. This means the case will continue to move forward. The Court has set a hearing date of September 15 for ALDF's motion for a mandatory injunction, which seeks an immediate revocation of Sandlin's permit to keep Tony.

June 21, 2011: A hearing is now scheduled for July 22.

June14, 2011: Louisiana Dept of Wildlife & Fisheries (LDWF) granted CONTINUANCE by the JUDGE so the LDWF could DISCOVER more evidence of Tony's condition.

The LDWF could REVOKE Sandlin's Permit at any time and Tony would be released and FREE NOW. Why haven't they done so. They have not renewed the permit, there must have been enough reason to make that decision. How difficult is this, really?

The answer: Politics.

There is a petition on Care2 to KEEP Tony at the truck stop, saying that they love him and care for him.

Tony is obviously bored and in totally the wrong environment. Even if what they are saying is true, if you cannot provide for your animals properly, you have to let them go to someone who can.

I have signed many petitions to free this beautiful creature and am glad the courts made the right decision.

Beautiful video of Tony. Many thanks for sharing with us. This big guy needs to be released now and rehabilitated. It's obvious that he is bored and has developed behavioural issues(pacing) because of his confinement. Tigers are not meant to be enclosed, but to roam free.

I was told by someone in the Louisiana political scene to continue to bombard Governor's office since re-election coming up. Important to stress he's supporting animal abuse and animal activists will be following him in the election - telling people he is a party to animal abuse. He doesn't like that word abuse. Don't know if it helps or not, but if enough people from La call and others do also, tying phones up, he just might twist judge's arm. Tie phones up as much as possible.

A disgrace. I'm sorry the judge is allowing it. However, if I understand correctly, they can't change the December ruling. LDWF is nothing but a corrupt department and at election time Jindal should be held accountable. The more people who live in Louisiana that get on the band wagon over this and make it a political issue the better. What evidence is there, cept that LDWF are violating their own rules re private ownership. Disgusting group of good ole boy politics all at the tiger's cost.

@macyjacobnathan1 LEGAL TERMS: Discovery is a time for each side to gather evidence. The Louisiana Dept of Wildlife & Fisheries asked for additional time to gather information for the case.

This is nothing but pure BS, not against the ALDF. But certainly against the LDWF, an agency charged to protect our wildlife.

There is absolutely NO REASON why the LDWF should continue this atrocity...this is nothing but Louisiana politics, favors and money!!!

I just got word that the hearing scheduled for tomorrow has been postponed..dont know why yet.. it was not ALDF's doing for sure!!! Thank you for this video. It is so heartbreaking to see Tony pacing like this. Michael Sandlin is truly lacking in any sort of compassion. He certainly does not give a damn about Tony. It's also troubling that the LDWF is attempting to postpone the June 14 hearing. What are they up to? I wonder if they've ever really bothered to actually visit Tony to see how miserable his life is? Animal Legal Defense Fund filed an opposition to the continuance on June 9. ALDF attorney has said they probably won’t know until Monday or Tuesday whether the hearing will take place as scheduled; it depends on whether the judge grants the continuance. Stay Strong Tony.
