I had to put my Sheltie Shane down on October 1st, 4 days before my 24th birthday due to bladder cancer. We used to say, "Shane where are you!" and he'd howl. I miss him so much.
@420Guitar420 I'm so sorry to hear that. We so dread the day we will lose one of our two dear Shelties. We lost our first Sheltie about 10 years ago. All we can do is cherish the good days we had with our pets when we had them. They are wonderful animals and I'll always be happy to have had them.
@MelissaNatasha240198 My Sheltie (Java) will sing like this anytime I sing or whistle. It's gotten so that I only have to sing one vowel "Oh" and he starts singing/howling. Once he starts our other Sheltie also joins in.
HAHAHA they are quite the talkers! I found that you can imitate their noises and they'll make different ones, as though they're caring on a conversation. It's so cute! Oh, and about the hair- I had one that grew to be twice the size Shelties are supposed to be and his hair was just naturally not as luscious, no matter how well you cared for it; I think it's just a result of over growth, not lack of care and love
@m1up I brush him about once a week. We have 2 Shelties. This is the smaller one at 17 lbs. The other one weighs about twice that. The larger one also has more fur and needs brushing more often. I trim the long hair on the backs of their legs about once very other week. Don't have to do that, but it keeps yard stuff from getting caught in their fur.
@m1up To keep up ( and mostly ) in the summer it it best if you brush every day. remember there coats are water resistant. If you dont keep up matting is enevetable.

oh my goodness! He's SO cute! I honestly don't understand how to teach a sheltie how to do that i know that shelties are pretty much the smartest dog's on earth but only someone truly smart can actually do that! long story short...who ever taught this sheltie to do this is truly smart!

God, I love my Sheltie, Felco. He never does anything like this, but he sleeps on the bed with me, and he always lies his head right on my leg when he wants to be pet. He loves attention, and he is jealous of my cat, Hobbes.
The name is "Java" and he's a male dog. Everyone seems to think he's female. We think that's because he's so cute :-) . It might also be because he's smaller than most Shelties. Actually he's the "correct" size for Shelties, but most Shelties I see are a little bigger.
Is he okay? lol omg, most Shelties should be around 13 inches high, my tri-color I had many years ago who was my life, he was about 18 inches, but for showing those are the required inches, and the ears are supposed to be bent at the tips, but COLLIES RULE no matter what xxx to Java
Hi, Cherstars. Shelties, for the show-ring, can not be shorter than 13" or taller than 16" in Canada or USA. Ears don't have to be tipped, but they would lose points if they are. However, any height Sheltie can be loved, and tipped or upright ears don't matter to the pet owner. Sorry, I like Collies, but Shelties are the best. LOL
I was sitting in my room with my guitar a couple a weeks ago, and i decided to play some moody blues. Yra (my dog), jumped up to the bad where i was sitting, and what do you know? She started howling along.
If some of you sheltie owners can play guitar, practice something with a lot of bends (important!) in it. I think they like it.
Is somebody in your family a race car fan??? It sounds like he was telling us about a race car up shifting from the starting line... he even starts off with squealing ties.... Incredible! Listen again and watch his face too...
