@RichardJoash but i would still take a vette because accually the corvette is better for the earth it can get 30 mpg on the highway and in five years the batterys wont destroy the earth witch are worse for the enviroment then a gas engine for over 20 years do to the acids in them.
Not a very fair comparo, the Vette is like 10 yrs old, and they keep just tinkering instead of giving it a good interior and contemporary sheet metal etc. I mean the engine is good...but come on. The 911's interior and technology smash the Vette. Maybe compare it to the SS Camaro. The Vette is old and tired and needs to be replaced.
Cool comparo, but not expecting the 'Vette to win. The C6 is 7 years old now, going up against a brand new 991. I would take the Corvette, just for the emotional connection and the fact that it quells the common belief that America can't make cars that handle. Will be interesting to see how this goes.
I have great respect for Porsche and congrats to them at Rolex 24, but I love almost EVERY Chevy vehicle and even if the Porsche is the "better" sports car, I love my America muscle cars--their roar, furious power and the skill needed to master them for all their worth. Go Chevy, and GM!
Unlike the top commenter, I really like that you compare these,
Firstly, they are very comparable as they are both national sports car icons.
Secondly, they have the same aim and are priced similarly (in relation to their home market). But they choose different paths to achieve driving pleasure. Also the 991 is trying pretty hard to become more emotional (e.g.: its engine tone is much more aggressive than the 997 DFI's) and comparing it to a very emotional American muscle car.
@aethrus I completely disagree. Have you ever heard a 997 GT3 RS? That is the most pure, emotional car you can buy besides and Ariel Atom V8. The thing is as close to a racing car on the street as you can get.
My fantasy car is not a Ferrari or Lamborghini, but a 997 GT3 RS 4.0 500bhp 4.0L naturally aspirated H6, screaming at 9000rpm. What gets more visceral than that? Porsche is pure lunacy wrapped in alcantara and leather, which is why they are amazing.
911> corvette from the carrera and ls3 all the way up to GT2 > ZR1, any real car enthusiast without fanboi pride should know this. If anyone has a chevy as a dream car, you need to dream bigger!
@n9athan its not about the price, its about performance and usability by everyday drivers. the porsche has more technology and performance features, whereas the vette is primarily about power. but car enthusiasts will agree that if u want the best u gotta buy the best
@turboman1505 the corvette achieves better average lateral g so it handles better as well, looking at nurburgring times. I believe the magnetic ride shocks are more advanced than what porsche uses ( ferrari uses the magnetic ride shocks as well although it was pioneered by GM). Either way both the porsche and corvette are great, for me the only porsche(s) I would take over a z06 or zr1 are the gt2rs and gt3rs. Not a fan of the turbo, and in motor trends comparison tests it was worse than the zr1
I don't care who wins this test. I would take the Porsche 911 anyday. Maybe because the Porsche has class which the Corvette never did (or will have).
@XxGlobaldance22xX It doesn't matter if you live here or not, many in germany would take a corvette over a porsche, even german auto reviews would. Look in the comments section of many german corvette reviews and see what they think. The grass is always greener on the other side some say.
if you where just a car enthousiast with a lot of money you daont care about the "government owe money bla bla ..." you just want ja proper car!
and just to be real the diffrence between a porsche and a corvette ZR1: zr1 is cheaper, more reliable, more power to weight ratio, better handeling, mutch quicker, lookt better, big ass nice sounding V8 instead of a 6 boxer! you want some more, o yea the best "stock" sterio And better brakes!
@route66rocks Yup, the corvette is better than a porsche in every way except handling. Only people who hate corvettes are going to side with porsche. Anyone that is not biased KNOWS that the corvette ZR1 is the better sports car. The ZR1 even beats the Ferrari 458 on the nurburgring and all porsches except the Porsche 911 GT2 RS.
@theonlylolking The Corvette is FASTER not better. There's more to a car than numbers. What does it FEEL like to drive? What's the build quality like. Prestige? All of these things count when buying a car.
Okay the reason I posted my comment about Government Bailout money. The Host starts out by stating these two cars have survived bureaucracy, recessions etc. While G.M. had just recieved a 60 billion dollar bailout in 2010 after filing bankruptcy in 2010. What a joke. The Corvette wouldn't even be in this comp. without the tax payers help.
@electrohome and if the government hadn't bailed them out, we would have hundreds of thousands more jobless people leaching off of unemployment and GM wouldn't be the #1 automaker in the world right now. Sure, a bailout isn't ideal, but it was the lesser of the two evils.
Vette=$80,000 porsche=$160,000....hmm, id rather have the vette considering it'll never break down and if it does, its a chevy I can go to autzone and fix it myself. If the porsche breaks down you gotta go to the dealer and buy the cupholder flux capicitor designed by SS officers in 1943 and cost 12,000 dollars and every1 knows without a heated cupholder your engine can't start duh!
Ok, motortrend i'm sorry but the corvette is NOT a drivers car. While the 911 has famously been of the best sports cars in the world. There's no point comparing them lol
The corvette will fall apart about 30 minutes after you drive it out of the car saloon (If you're lucky enough to have it start the 'engine') while the Porsche will drive you from america to China the long way round where you can race, then go back home, give it to your son, your son's son and his son and maybe after 150 years you might have to change the oil.
Corvettes are not a drivers car, its a drag, strait line car, sure the Porche isn't as quick but it is absolutely stunning around the corners. Porche has this in the bag.
@johnnysanderstv WRONG!!! That may have been true in the 70s, but it's quite the opposite nowadays, and has been ever since the C5 was introduced. It's the Porsches that are the "Drag Kings", while Corvettes are decimating the competition around the track.
Also, going by this teaser, it looks like the Z06 vs the Carrera S. If that's the case, the 911 doesn't have a snowflake's chance in a blast furnace. But it'll probably still "win" because it has a better interior.
I'm fairly certain that's a Carrera S in the video, which doesn't stand a chance against the Z06. The 'Vette will likely outperform the 911 in every measurable way, but I can almost guarantee the Porsche will still end up getting the nod because of its better interior(specifically, the seats). It happened with their "Best Driver's Car" comparison, so why not here? Regardless of objective data, at the end of the day the "better" car will be decided purely on subjective criteria.
Don't make all the other vids in you're other teasers, just make four times as many of these types of vids. 2 wheels suck, lowriders suck, the hotrod thing MIGHT be ok, but we'll see.
This is going to be interesting. I remember a while back thinking about what car I would get if I had $35,000 and a 911 was at the top of the list. I got excited, and started making grand plans to get a 911 after I was out of college and could afford something at that kind of price. Then I thought to myself, "I wonder how much Corvette I could get for that?" And... it's a lot of Corvette. For that matter, that budget might even snag you a pretty healthy dose of Viper if you've the cajones.
Already know the winner, Porsche of course. GM won't have my respect, until they pay back ALL bailout money. They still owe billions to the government.
@electrohome So do you want all the other car companies that build cars in america to also pay back what they have been given? btw its in the hundreds of millions to each.
@IxOVERKILLxI Do your research, I'll give you some key words to Google when doing your online search Tarp loan is one of them. G.M. has not paid back anything close to what they borrowed.

@electrohome no one cares about YOUR respect though, its about the professionals respect. In other words motor trends opinion is what matters here. Although it is still going to be a opinion and in the end speed talks.
@TheElhessar Actually, I'm pretty interested in which one's gonna win this comparison. 911 handles very well, but Corvette's engine is a beast. The thing is that when I read your comment I didn't know what to say: Vette or 911? They are both icons. That's why this in-depth comparison is needed :)
@TheElhessar Yes because the corvette is basically the U.S version of the 911, its a pretty fair and entertaining experiment and has been done before.

@electrohome no one cares about YOUR respect though, its about the professionals respect. In other words motor trends opinion is what matters here. Although it is still going to be a opinion and in the end speed talks.

Are you serious? Are you really asking which one is the best sportscar between a 911 and a Corvette?
lol

@TheElhessar Actually, I'm pretty interested in which one's gonna win this comparison. 911 handles very well, but Corvette's engine is a beast. The thing is that when I read your comment I didn't know what to say: Vette or 911? They are both icons. That's why this in-depth comparison is needed :)

@TheElhessar Yes because the corvette is basically the U.S version of the 911, its a pretty fair and entertaining experiment and has been done before.
