Not a very fair comparo, the Vette is like 10 yrs old, and they keep just tinkering instead of giving it a good interior and contemporary sheet metal etc. I mean the engine is good...but come on. The 911's interior and technology smash the Vette. Maybe compare it to the SS Camaro. The Vette is old and tired and needs to be replaced.

Cool comparo, but not expecting the 'Vette to win. The C6 is 7 years old now, going up against a brand new 991. I would take the Corvette, just for the emotional connection and the fact that it quells the common belief that America can't make cars that handle. Will be interesting to see how this goes.

I have great respect for Porsche and congrats to them at Rolex 24, but I love almost EVERY Chevy vehicle and even if the Porsche is the "better" sports car, I love my America muscle cars--their roar, furious power and the skill needed to master them for all their worth. Go Chevy, and GM!

Unlike the top commenter, I really like that you compare these,

Firstly, they are very comparable as they are both national sports car icons.

Secondly, they have the same aim and are priced similarly (in relation to their home market). But they choose different paths to achieve driving pleasure. Also the 991 is trying pretty hard to become more emotional (e.g.: its engine tone is much more aggressive than the 997 DFI's) and comparing it to a very emotional American muscle car.

@aethrus I completely disagree. Have you ever heard a 997 GT3 RS? That is the most pure, emotional car you can buy besides and Ariel Atom V8. The thing is as close to a racing car on the street as you can get.

My fantasy car is not a Ferrari or Lamborghini, but a 997 GT3 RS 4.0 500bhp 4.0L naturally aspirated H6, screaming at 9000rpm. What gets more visceral than that? Porsche is pure lunacy wrapped in alcantara and leather, which is why they are amazing.

@turboman1505 the corvette achieves better average lateral g so it handles better as well, looking at nurburgring times. I believe the magnetic ride shocks are more advanced than what porsche uses ( ferrari uses the magnetic ride shocks as well although it was pioneered by GM). Either way both the porsche and corvette are great, for me the only porsche(s) I would take over a z06 or zr1 are the gt2rs and gt3rs. Not a fan of the turbo, and in motor trends comparison tests it was worse than the zr1

Okay the reason I posted my comment about Government Bailout money. The Host starts out by stating these two cars have survived bureaucracy, recessions etc. While G.M. had just recieved a 60 billion dollar bailout in 2010 after filing bankruptcy in 2010. What a joke. @johnnysanderstv WRONG!!! That may have been true in the 70s, but it's quite the opposite nowadays, and has been ever since the C5 was introduced. It's the Porsches that are the "Drag Kings", while Corvettes are decimating the competition around the track.

Also, going by this teaser, it looks like the Z06 vs the Carrera S. If that's the case, the 911 doesn't have a snowflake's chance in a blast furnace. But it'll probably still "win" because it has a better interior.

I'm fairly certain that's a Carrera S in the video, which doesn't stand a chance against the Z06. The 'Vette will likely outperform the 911 in every measurable way, but I can almost guarantee the Porsche will still end up getting the nod because of its better interior(specifically, the seats). It happened with their "Best Driver's Car" comparison, so why not here? Regardless of objective data, at the end of the day the "better" car will be decided purely on subjective criteria.

This is going to be interesting. I remember a while back thinking about what car I would get if I had $35,000 and a 911 was at the top of the list. I got excited, and started making grand plans to get a 911 after I was out of college and could afford something at that kind of price. Then I thought to myself, "I wonder how much Corvette I could get for that?" And... it's a lot of Corvette. For that matter, that budget might even snag you a pretty healthy dose of Viper if you've the cajones.
