  • what's with the accent Steve?

  • AHAAAAAAAAAAA

  • Steve Coogan. I love everything about you.

  • @cerisewings If only you knew what i knew..

  • @karadan100 Okay, I'll take the bait. What do you know?

  • @cerisewings I'd tell you but i'd be liable for one hell of a lawsuit. It isn't really provable and therefore, i'd probably just look like a loon.

I'm not trying to undermine you. The guy has made some great comedy. I understand why lots of people like him.

  • Why are people surprised when someone who has lived somewhere for a significant period of time is effected slightly by the accent of the region? I can only imagine that the people who display such incredulity never leave the tiny little area in which they were born and raised.

  • tell us a joke steve .

  • why is he putting on an accent? he doesn't normally speak like that. is it because hes in america or something?

  • @fukdyamum i think its like that ex england manager who went to holland and did the press conference with a dutch accent, he's trying to fit in and please the people around him, so probably subconsciously he's adjusted his vowel sounds to american new york.

  • @fukdyamum To be fair, does Steve Coogan known what Steve Coogan's natural accent is anymore? :p

  • I really like his thoughts on comedy.

  • 3:20 he's actually really cute when he's laughing.

  • I really like Mr. Coogan.

  • His accent is everywhere LOL

  • cavern boy

  • oddly reminds me of Trent Reznor, though not at all at the very same time.

  • Why is it every american interview I see Coogan doing, he's got a mid atlantic accent? That's not his real accent! I guess he's a natural chameleon, and tends to pick up the voices of people he's hanging around with at the time...

  • from 2.20 - 2.30 you can definitely see Partridge from his facial expressions

  • He is lovely and a great actor. I hope he gets some good roles cause I would watch anything he was in. He is hilarious but his comedy is at its best when it he illicits empathy and pity from the audience at the same time.

  • He has the deepest voice. I never knew that.

  • 1132894496: What if you want to search for your favorite videos on Youtube and you don't want to lose sight of them, what are you going to do? • @agilefuseconsulting or you can just favourite them on youtube twat

  • What the fuck is that accent? I'm amazed he can slip back into Alan Partridge so easily with such an American twang..

  • @sheepeasy Agreed. Maybe he's taking the piss...

  • ah-HA.

  • I like his smile and the way his mind works. He's right about the british...We LOVE losers unfortunately

  • i cant stop lookin at his mouth

  • @somanguuu I can't now either, I read your comment right at the start!

  • Ugh.

    Bloody sexy.

Lurrve him; he's so damn adorable!

  • the british? you should say us, we, cause you're british coogan

  • @yazmatraz he said the british because this was done for yanks

  • I don't understand what all of the fuss is for? I'm so glad that he is able to separate his performance self from his own personality. Sanity still deserves respect in the business of comedy.

  • He's a fucked up accent now.

  • what a beautiful smile!!!!!!! XDD

  • kiss ass coogan.........whats this man have you turned into a wanna bee yankie lol

  • he definitely is.

  • Is it just me or is the Mighty Mr Coogan developing a bit of a "transadlandic" accent in this vid?

  • His smile is phenomenal.

  • love him, but very matthew brodrwiek in a sense.

  • very clever

  • I love Coogan, the guy's a genius.

  • I'd imagine he is slightly Americanising and deepening his voice on purpose. Why? I don't know. Anything from wanting to appear non-threatening to American audiences to deep insecurity about needing to make it in America. Could also simply be taking the piss. Or all 3. Or a 4th reason I haven't thought of.

  • @retread01 Take a look at the Joseph Gordon Levitt interview in this Screen Test series. He is caught on camera at the beginning doing a quick vocal exercise to 'deepen' his voice. It's a sort of loosening of the vocal chords exhiliation. Try it, it works. What it says about insecurities, image and self promotion is another fascinating area you may wish to comment on?

  • Doesn't he have one of the most beautiful smiles you've ever seen? It slays me.

  • Yeah. I agree. He's hot.

  • @tatianaramunova i know isnt he

  • how is he so funny in his movies but so dry in interviews?

    thats some real acting

  • dont worry , all americans close minded and friendly firing ... i promise

    : ))))

steve coogan is funny . loved him in 24 party people .

  • Fucking typical yank, wont watch anything if it isn't American. You fucking fat, ignorant, burger eating, friendly firing twat go and fuck your mum in the ass.

  • What are you really upset about?

  • who the fuck is this guy?

  • If you don't know who it is why the fuck are you on this video?

  • i was looking for porn

  • on youtube??? and you searched 'steve coogan'?

  • yes on youtube a few days ago I discovered that you can aparently show tities on youtube so wherever there are tities I am too

  • @dom69focoha ha ha this funny.

    Somebody did´nt know Steve Coogan.

He is a BIG TIME comedian in England

    and all over Europe.

  • he is sooo funny in hamlet 2!

  • what happened to his accent? dont be fake for the americans.

  • Well said!! Totally agree!!

  • bitch please

  • he is trying to americanize himself so his teeth don't rot out!!! lol

  • cloying

  • since when was coogan american????what????

  • Coogan is an absolute legend, but this interview is woeful. His desire to please and suck up to Americans is quite sickening, and this clip provides several examples of such: disappointing overall.

  • shut up

  • ---> my balls....

    suck 'em.

  • @loopstheloop Would you care to share a few examples?

  • Well, American televisual comedy is generally unsophisticated. He skirted around that topic through hyperbole... 'Americans like funny, successful people making the joke, while the English like odder types'. The crux of it is that so much American 'comedy' is without true characters, but based around the set-up for N.Y. Jewish knock-down lines... while the cardboard-cut-outs who deliver these lines are largely interchangeable. More propaganda than art, & all packaging. Coogan was far too kind.

  • nothing wrong with his accent......

  • steve does have a slight american accent but he is an excellent impressionist so if hes surrounded by americans the accent will rub off.

I lived in birmingham for a few months and picked up the accent unintentionally

  • his accent is different, hear earlier interviews to compare

  • the accent is defo English but with about 2 phrases of American when he says something that is American in style - just shows how influential the US is - cant imagine americans putting on Uk accents at all - in music its ubiquitous - hardly anyone sings without a US accent in the UK

  • Gosh, aren't you informed... not. There's an Americanism for ya ya twat.

  • why you are bothered enough by that comment to actually get abusive - and I think you might be missing the point anyway as there's nothing informed in what I've said - you must be either very immature/young or have some anger to get out by trawling the net and swearing at people, either way, how sad.

  • "There's nothing informed in what i've said" - the funniest rebuke i've ever heard. I agree with you wholeheartedly. There was nothing whatsoever informed about what you said.

  • yes its about opinions - there are no facts only illuminations of ideas - happy dreams

  • the "American accent" is actually shared by canada too! but no one seems to know that lol but ur right even in places like Australia and NZ whenever they sing they sound like us!

  • no it's not. Americans have American accents and Canadians have Canadian accents. There is a difference, albeit not as noticeable as the difference between American and English accents.

Also, most artists don't intentionally sing with "American accents". When you sing, you tend to sing word sounds rather than actually words. This actually makes this sound more musical, whereas singing with an accent makes it harder for everyone to understand.

  • Cashback!

  • he is putting on a slight american accent... how strange...

  • He did have an American Accent in Hamlet 2. :x

  • No he's not.

  • should smile more...relax...its cameras not an inquest

  • and say "Have A Nice Day"?

    He's a comedian - not a Burger King employee

  • ...whats wrong with his accent?

  • whats wrong with it? just sounds like a normal british accent to me.

  • he is so lush >3

    mm

  • he's so damn sexy!!! seriously!!

  • agree! :)

  • steve, always interesting. seemed rather tired here, low key, jet lagged. the faces he pulls when talking...fascinating.

  • denis hopper anyone?

  • no thanks, i just put one out, but cheers anywho

  • Twat!

  • that accent is ridiculous Steve!

  • I agree, his accent is different when he's on american tv, he adopts a slight twang in his voice. Watch him on british tv and you'll hear the difference.

  • Comment removed

  • he IS english..

  • What yankee/american accent? He sounds english.

  • You can't pick it up because you're from the US, but to British ears his accent is noticeably different. He certainly doesn't sound American, but he is tailoring his accent. Americans do it in Britain aswell, Madonna developed a British way of speaking & I've heard other US personalities adopt more British friendly ways of speaking. It's a way of ingratiating yourself with the country. Like saying "I guess so" instead of the British "I suppose so".

  • Lynn Hirschberg is evil.

  • Why is Lynn Hirschberg evil? I'm not asking in a defensive way, just wanted to know.

  • Really embarrassing to watch this. Repackaged Coogan for the masses.

  • American's don't like looking at ugly people. HAHAHAHAHA. Classic.

  • HAMLET 2 PEOPLE!

  • No American tones, from what I can hear

  • anyone see tropic thunder - classic....shite

  • That american twang is so annoying!! Saw him doing his tour in Oxford a couple of days ago, and there was none of this accent nonsense! (And it was brilliant)

  • seen him last night at the liverpool echo arena think maybe he should stick to tv!

  • yep, he's not that great on this. and he's developed one hell of a yankee accent too. must've been out there too long.

    "partridge, you W***ER!!"

  • HAMLET 2.0

    !!!

  • Perhaps it's the editing, or the interviewer, but he seems very rushed and uncomfortable. He tells the same "Monty Python" story on a BBC bit and it's much funnier.

  • its probably because hes not motivated in this interview i think

  • Glad he survived Courtney Love's smear campaign - I think he loved her, dumped her and she tried to get her own back.

  • Why on earth did Steve Coogan have to do a screen test? I think he's loving this.

  • "American's don't like looking at ugly people." For the majority of us, yes that sounds right. But it doesn't explain 40% of the faces to the right----->

    WTF Franco & Faris?

  • LOL his facial expressions in some of this look exactly the same as Alan Partridge :D

Also, do I detect very slight American tones in his voice? FFS!

  • I know it was said by lx088 but come on....Steve (not Seth) Coogan (not Coogen). Unless he changed his name or Seth is an alias shouldn't The New York Times be better at avoiding these mistakes? ps I do love the NYTimes.

  • contact me for my screen test

  • i love his voice; the throaty raspyness.

  • Rather it's "Steve" Coogan.
