The whole point was that he loved her deeply all along.

As far as I know short films are an artistic medium and therefore can have more than one interpretation. all of those interpretations are not wrong and not one single one is the only right one. (But I have no Art/Film/English degree or anything to back that up.)

For me the ending means that she wanted to break up, too. I'm not going to explain why this is my interpretation though. ;)

The guy can't make his mind up about anything, he was so certain that it's over, but at the same time he never came out that they were broken up, because of his horrible communication skills. Throughout the whole party, I guess he changed his mind, or did he. It's a film of uncertainty, and the confusion you're left with at the end is what made the film so good!

That is at least how I interpreted it, but that's the magic of film.
