Axelrod is using a technique that I saw Obama use on McCain in the debate the other night: He's looking Schmidt directly in the face while Schmidt is dissembling as if to ask "Are you kidding?". Schmidt avoids eye contact as much as possible...when he does glance Axelrod's way, it's uncomfortable and brief. It's a dramatic and effective piece of stagecraft. The viewer can't help but notice.

Their hopes are that the voters will to. How many lies/distortions have been debunked? Yet they repeat them. Because of either a lack of respect for the intellect of the voters, or hopes of voter apathy, they seem to feel it won't matter if they repeat lie after lie. We'll see if they're right.
