I just love watching the old huckster pitch his con. LRH sounded at times like a hawker at a carnival just trying to haul those suckers in. Seems like all of those years of doing bennies, swilling the booze, staying awake for a couple of days writing pulp fiction, and skipping various cities, states,countries finally caught up to LRH in 1968. That is probably when he started to really loose it mentally. He hyped the e meter to sound like it was so highly sophisticated.

The U.S. State Department formally criticized Germany for discriminating against Scientologists using human rights laws to harrass Germany. 48 Hours should have taken a more neutral stance to Scientology. It's hard to take it seriously when the whole religon is cast in a negative light. My friend's dad is a scientologist. He's an alcoholic, has no job, no money, barely sees his kids, suffers from chronic depression and basically hates his life, despite being an active member of the church from childhood onward. His roommates, who are all scientologists, aren't much better off. The church takes advantage of all of them, taking what little money they have by promising them a better life. It's incredibly depressing.

Anyone old enough to remember those shifty Dianetics commercials from the late 70s and 80s? They seemed overwrought, melodramatics and even a bit creepy, more like film trailers than commercials for a self help book. The narrator had this deep, bellowing voice and made all sorts of outlandish claims about the book, while a huge volcano graphic in the background exploded in particles towards the screen. I was just a kid in the late 70s but even then I was suspicious of those stupid ads

I've experienced "The Snowball Effect" and I'm "Drug Resistant". Finally last year after being hospitalized for 9 weeks, I'm educated and finally on the right medications. I really need to read Dianetics with an open mind, so if I get help out of it I can say so, or if I get no help out of it I can say so. I'd like to be able to report in Scientology video threads, that it's good or it's worthless crap. It's a big book, but hopefully it's interesting enough that it'll be a quick read.

i think i think elli perkins son had bipolar nad he suffered with it badly and all the scientology fed to him made him worse untill one day he snaps and kills his mum. my partner suffered bad with bipolar in his late teens and early twenties it took us 6 years untill he was prescribed the right medication and since then 3 yrs ago hes been stable totally different iv seen him hallucinate talk to ppl that wernt there, hes seen jesus before. jeremy needed help big time, this shouldnt of happened.

There is something severely flawed with every religion, that is why they are such a failure. Hubbard recognized that many people needed a belief system and that religion was the source of the insanity in this world. But instead of working on a resolution to the problem he decided to take advantage of it himself. Therefore, inventing a religion about brain fixing, both hard to prove truth one way or the other, the perfect scam.

I'm not a scientologist but psychiatry in the USA has for far too long been pulling the scam of acting like the only ones who can dispense mental health. In fact, traditional psychiatry has had extremely low success rates much lower than the pop-psychology remedies such as NLP, Gestalt, Tony Robbins and other non-medicating self help.
