  • Video is slightly wrong, spacing does not affect frame data.

    Spacing affects the results of frame data.

    I.e. ami's crouching light still is faster, but due to range differences the frame advantage doesn't matter and ami gets hit by wesker.

  • You're probably going to explain this next video anyway, but I have a followup question that only specifically related to Marvel. How does hitstun deterioration work and how does the DHC glitch work.

  • @CrunchyShef I can answer your second question: the dhc glitch is gone in UMVC3, but, if your still curious, basically you would dhc into a counter or powerup super, or any super that's fast enough to allow for a followup combo, so that you could reset all damage scaling on your combo thus allowing for easy 100% combos. If you don't understand damage scaling, it's basically your moves are getting weaker as you keep whaling on your opponent.

  • Quick question if a move is 5 frames does it mean it actives frames start at 5 or 4?

    The active frames probably start at 2 frames and end at 4 frames. Frame 1 is probably the startup frame and frame 5 is probably the recovery frame. The active frames are diffrent for each character.

  • Sentinel's launcher actually has 49 frames of animation.You don't just add up the startup, active and recovery frames, because the last startup frame and first active frame occur simultaneously, so you must subtract 1 from the sum of the startup, active, and recovery frames.

  • @clouddark23 the more you know the better, but he used an example saying average light attack is 5 frames boom there you go, and now all you need to know is the exceptions. Knowing the exceptions is part of learning how characters match against each other, the other part is learning what options characters have against each other

  • Awesome video, awesome series (so far). Great information, and good to see real fighters like Jago and the FC guys who ain't a-scared of new blood coming in and growing the community.

    Question on the subject:  If my opponent has a 5 frame attack and I use a 3 frame attack, but start mine 3 frames later than his... does that mean he beat me 5<6? Or is it just a 5 vs 3 comparison when the to attacks connect and resolve? Sorry if that was covered in the vid and I missed it. Thanks in advance!

    Well of course you have to take into account that you started it 3 frames later...why wouldn't you, frames are a measure of time. So yes in your case you will lose.

  • Awesome video, I learned a lot. I was wondering if you could do a joy stick tutorial? I recently acquired a new fight stick and im having a hard time figuring out how to use it. For a guy who has only used controllers his whole life it seams impossible to do a shoryuken properly. Most of the time I find myself scribbling the stick like its a pencil trying to get a damn shoryuken out online.

  • @Doomsday51225 it took me a month of hardcore SSF4 to get really confortable with my stick. Just keep playing and eventually you'll never want to touch a pad in fighting games. Practice throwing 30 dragon punches in a row from each side before you play, and take time in training mode to grind out exectuion

    Not necessary really...you use it to help you discover counters to the opponent or what the opponent can counter your moves with. You then memorize the counters to their moves and the punishes to your moves, not the actual frames. Of course no one's stopping you from memorizing the frame data but it's really not necessary.

  • hmmm so startup frames (keep it low) active (keep it high) recovery (keep it low) hitsun (keep it high) and blockstun (keep it high)? are these in a nutshell what to look for?

  • @AlanJLS7 Yes, that would be the ideal move for zoning. Sadly, all moves won't have this godlike status for you. What you want to do is check to see what are the safest moves overall for your character so they have frame advantage, and learn the proper spacings and setups for those particular moves.

    Yes but if you're memorizing it that way then you probably don't understand it at all...

    Also keep in mind that active frames to be high isn't always a good idea. If a move whiffs, the startup, active and recovery frames should be added up into one final value to determine recovery frames. So in this sense, a high active frames count can be a bad thing if it whiffs.

  • I've always thought that Marvel was a more visual game where frame data is less vital, whereas a game like Street Fighter is a game where you NEED to know frame data or you'll get bodied.
