I couldn't care if he spent it on a pair of socks! The bailouts shouldn't have happened......PERIOD! If the government handed over a few billion to me, I'd probably do the same.
John Thain is morally bankrupt. If only the government would leave him completely bankrupt as well...and then force him out into the streets to be beaten within an inch of his life.
What people don't realize is this was NOT done w/ stimulus money. In fact it stimulates the economy...you have to go pay a designer -who emploiys others- you have to go pay a decorator -who employs others- and then get workers out there and do it!
@jjpirate04 It is not the responsibility of any CEO to give there money to any one. Everyone has the right to spend there money however they want, as for the designer, if he can make 800K doing what he does, good for him. He is a nice quote that I think would be sutable here "I swear by my life, and my love of it, that I will never live for another mans sake, nor ask him to live for mine." (John Galt A.S.)
Ayn Rand is a shitty author and her shitty books have nothing to do with the way these people are robbing the society blind. So stop acting like you're smarter and more well read and show some common sense yourself.
People who will not use their intelligence are no better than animals. Such people are beasts of burden and steaks on the table by choice and consent
Consequently, in the interest of future world order, peace, and tranquility, it was decided to privately wage a quiet war against the American public with an ultimate objective of permanently shifting the natural and social energy (wealth) of the undisciplined & irresponsible many into the hands of the self-disciplined, responsible, and worthy few
In the 1970s, CEOs made 30 times as much as the average worker; by 2006, it was 370 times as much. All the while, market forces have steadily reduced costs across the board. Why are chief executives immune?
Dude you dont understand my post then... First of all economy is dependent on many things. You fail to understand that business are only successful if they sell their product/service. There is only about 5% of rich class out there, meaning those products/services are purchased by the 95% of upper, middle and poor class combined. If those 3 classes don't get their share of money those products/services will not be sold and more jobs will be lost. Domino effect.. Do yo Understand?
Take money from the competent & give to incompetent?
Daschle, Killefer, & Geithner tax-cheats!; Berney Madoff fraud; Barney Frank was arrested for running a male prostitution ring from his own house when he was supposed to have oversight of Freddie Mack; Sen Dodd for mortgage fraud; US Trade Rep Ron Kirk a tax cheat; etc
Tax-exempt foundations are used to conceal and protect wealth from taxes, and to reward corrupt politicians who "went along."
Well, the reason execs such as the one the video mentions can do stuff like that is because when Congress pass out the money, they made no rules on how that money had to be spent.
the inmates are running the asylum - bring back frontal lobotomies and electroshock & line up all the lying, thieving bastards! then pull out their fingernails & toenails & ship them to the poorest country in the world with a 1 way ticket, no identification and $5 bucks. Yeah, the slimeballs piss me off.
These type of CEOs should be put in jail... they drive their companies to the ground stick out their socialist hand for a bailout to cover their losses and they use that money to to remodel their offices>!!?? wtf!
The gov should've fired them take the company and get new CEOs that know what responsibility and decency means
Nobody is saying give the company's to governments. Even though that might be necessary in some cases. But congress/president should add conditions onto these bailouts. Like replacing the CEO. Or they have to spend it on core business.
Someone send this CEO in Siberia so he can get Tuberculosis, give him AIDS, so spend lots of money and help the medical sector... until his death. and help the economy
Sorry about the poor grammar in my previous post. I meant to say that I am for any bank or institution that takes bailout money to have a limit set on their ceos pay, that it be no more than our president's.
I am so for any bank or institution taking taxpayer bailout money should pay no ceo more than our president.

I have no problems handing out more food stamps, but more than that is wrong. The consumer-driven economy is dead, lots of people in the related field will lose jobs. Cannot prevent it. So Cenk, ABC, MSNBC and other news are making up the same story to bring down Thain of all people? Ah conspiracy at work. May I get you a tin foil hat sir?
Thain splurged on interior designs from the Obama's chosen White House decorator Michael Smith ($800,000), two area rugs ($131,000), two guest chairs ($87,000), a 19th Century credenza ($68,000), four pairs of curtains ($28,000), and a mahogany pedestal table ($25,000).
six dining room chairs ($37,000), a George IV Desk ($18,000), a custom coffee table ($16,000), a sofa ($15,000), a chandelier ($13,000), a mirror ($5,000), six wall sconces ($2,700) a trash can for $1,400.
Why do people on these posts keep defending the undefendable, by bringing up our President's inauguration? Like this has ANYTHING to do with some CEO acting like a monarch from the 18th century? Are you insane? Really, because that is the only conculsion I can come up with...This type of piggery is the reason that your kids and grandkids will be paying for a Wall Street bailout for the next 100 years...WAKE UP! Your hatred of our President is old & sad, and your defense of the undefendable-MAD!
"42million is the normal amount spent on inaugurations." And you don't see the problem with that?
"Obama didnt spend tax payer money on excesss" The money was spent on a party during a deep recession. I know Obama is you Hitler and you must defend him at all cost but if he was change he wouldn't have allowed it.
Just say the real reason why you have an issue with Obama. Do not try to mask it behind this cost of the inauguration. I do not see you mentioning the fact that half of the stimulus money just completely vanished and no one can trace what the banks have actually done with it... Of course you would not, that has nothing to do with Obama so you cannot make him look back and thus it does not serve your purpose. At least be honest. You are anonymous after all.
Given that the man just came into office and you are saying he is the American Hitler, I am calling you a pea brained bigot/racist. You have no acts to judge him by since he just became the president thus you must be judging by some other factor related to appearance.
The last time I checked, Hitler was killing an ethnic group en mass while Obama just signed for the closure of a torture prison. Please show me the similarities. I get the feeling you are a Limbaugh fan as well.
You did not post regarding Bush and you have not compared him nor McCain to Hitler. You also failed to respond to the issue I raised with your comparison to Hitler. As I said before, just admit it. At least others express their simple hate behind the monitor but you compare the man to Hitler in an attempt to negatively stigmatize him. The media does the same with his wife by only focusing on her clothing and not on her character or accomplishments. People like you make me sick.
"You also failed to respond to the issue I raised with your comparison to Hitler." Did you read my previous comment? Patriot Act, wiretapping, illegal wars and invasions, corporatist all Hitler like.
"You compare the man to Hitler in an attempt to negatively stigmatize him." And?
"The media does the same with his wife by only focusing on her clothing and not on her character or accomplishments." What has she done except sit on Obamas dick.
Ah, I hope you have black presidents for the next 32 years. It is fun to see bigots like you get angry. Exceptionally amusing when you deny it as well.
People like this CEO need to be publicly executed for the misappropriation of funds. There are people losing homes and struggling to find food on a daily basis yet this asshole takes the hard-earned dollars of taxpayers to furnish is office. Human greed at its finest. CEOs of financial companies and George Bush really did a number on this world and they get to walk away with impunity. Banks making loans to people they know cannot repay and a $12 billion a month war in Iraq. Enough is enough...
@CorbenikTheHarbinger really that is completely unreasonable I mean of course it is a misappropriation of funds and people are struggling to survive, however we can't go around executing people in the streets it is completely wrong and against the constitutionand besides "Darkness cannot be driven out by darkness only light, hate cannot be driven out by hate only love" - Martin Luther King, Jr
CEO's of private corporations believe they are gods. And why not, you have board members handing them millions in pay, bonuses, stock options, and retirement golden parachutes.
Welcome to private industry, and you thought government was corrupt.
I hope someone sets his office on fire. I know arson is bad, but I think using 1.2 million of misappropriated money to remodel an office kind of cancels that out.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
So let me get this straight, a CEO of a company spends 1.2 million to redecorate his office and the people upset about that are the same ones who just spent 170 million on the inaguration of the guy who can't believe 1.2 million was spent?!?
Simple. The conservative press left the security estimates out of the cost of Bush's Inauguration, and included them in the Obama's. When they are factored in the results may be that Obama's was either slightly more or less than Bush. The final tally isn't in. Watch the video here at TYT
OBama's current Economic stimulus could pay for 40,000,000 million jobs at 20000 dollars for a year.
800 billion dollars should be just in a labor fund, allow the cities where the Auto industry is going to collapse and take those people, create jobs for the community, like road construction, community service work and the likes.
But, I don't agree with any bailout, even of the people, But, if there has to be one, let it be for the people.
61 people could have been paid 20,000 dollars for a whole year for 1.22 million dollars?
If I was fired from that job, I would run into the guys office and steal his F'in rug and sale it. Or set it on fire. The fire would be more rewarding for me. THat is, IF he was in the office while it was on fire. ha
Well, I could tell you how I would feel - but those idiots who got fired for cutbacks are probably STILL firm believers in capitalism. So, they get little sympathy from me.
It's too bad that Americans have become such simpering, cowardly, followers. The American colonists, who had the guts to take on the British Empire, THOSE Americans would have cleaned things up a long time ago and reminded the gov't in no uncertain terms just what WE THE PEOPLE means.
A commode is a drawer you can fold out into a desk. Was generally used to store quills and paper and such back when writing was something you did once a month.
It's these people's mindsets.....Detroit...Wallstreet...they really think nothing is wrong with it....they have been living like this for so long......not just living at a higher standard due to higher salary, but wasting money just to show off how much they have.....and you thought rapper videos were bad......
This does raise an interesting question, though. If Obama used the same designer for the Oval Office, how much did the taxpayers just spend on Obama's garbage can?
Who the fuck cares? Americans deserve everything that's happening to them. Half of them don't even give a shit anyway. This is the ONLY reason the elite are behaving like this. If yall can't see the truth then let me open up your eyes for you...THEIR GOING FOR BROKE NOW! THEY'VE GOT THEIR MASIONIC SAVIOUR IN THE WHITE HOUSE TO DISTRACT YOU WITH ALL OF HIS FANCY RHETORIC BUT IN THE END HE WILL BE NO BETTER THAN CLINTON AND THAT JUST AIN'T GONNA CUT IT IN 2009. A economic crash awaits you America.
That guy should be punished like in the old days: shackled, and subjected to rotten tomatoes and egs thrown by people who walk by. It could actually be a way to return some of the money he spent: set up a tent where you can buy old vegetables that would otherwise go to dump.
Who is this guy? What kind of person comes into a company with moneyproblems and than waste all that money.
He mustn't give a damn, what else can you make of it. He doesn't care if people lose their jobs, as long as he can sit his royal ass in a golden chair.
Yeah and he probably got a bonus when he got fired, sick world we live in...
They need to make him live like a bum on the street.
Asked to leave? I'd have KICKED his dumb ass right out the front door! I wonder what kind of golden parachute he managed to negotiate. That's the final blow.
sadly Spiritualist Atheist old son your NOT! remember these sods have all the money AND the power! (remeber the golden rule.. he who has the gold makes the rules)it is very rarely that one of them goes down for anything but once ina while it DOES happen! ask Conrad Black!
That's more than obvious, but since it's non the less obvious that person doesn't gives a jack what you expect of him and see him speding 87 grand on pair of chairs, nothing suprising about 1.4k garbage can.
I don't have any knowledge on any banking or economics but as an average person it seems like they all went in as CEO's and made the places go broke like it was a plan or something
In a theoretical: it would be interesting if the banks collapsed. Because we would have a chance to rebuild them from the ground up, and start the process over again... I.E. screw that, remove the monetary system and we'd be better off.
I couldn't care if he spent it on a pair of socks! The bailouts shouldn't have happened......PERIOD! If the government handed over a few billion to me, I'd probably do the same.

BABIEBABIE7 3 years ago 6
Obamas inauguration was 100 times that amount and people cheered him. Hypocrites.
lukewarmstorm 3 years ago
42million is the normal amount spent on inaugurations. that amount was given by the government. The rest of the inauguration was raised privately.
Obama didnt spend tax payer money on excesss
slanguage 3 years ago
"42million is the normal amount spent on inaugurations." And you don't see the problem with that?
"Obama didnt spend tax payer money on excesss" The money was spent on a party during a deep recession. I know Obama is you Hitler and you must defend him at all cost but if he was change he wouldn't have allowed it.
lukewarmstorm 3 years ago
Just say the real reason why you have an issue with Obama. Do not try to mask it behind this cost of the inauguration. I do not see you mentioning the fact that half of the stimulus money just completely vanished and no one can trace what the banks have actually done with it... Of course you would not, that has nothing to do with Obama so you cannot make him look back and thus it does not serve your purpose. At least be honest. You are anonymous after all.
CorbenikTheHarbinger 3 years ago 2
"Just say the real reason why you have an issue with Obama" I did say my reason. What are you insinuating?
lukewarmstorm 3 years ago
lukewarmstorm,
Given that the man just came into office and you are saying he is the American Hitler, I am calling you a pea brained bigot/racist.
CorbenikTheHarbinger 3 years ago 2
"I am calling you a pea brained bigot/racist"
Racist? How am I racist?
"You have no acts to judge him by since he just became the president"
Voted for the Patriot Act, Wiretapping, supports killing people in afghan. bailouts I could keep going.
"I get the feeling you are a Limbaugh fan as well" No I'm not.
lukewarmstorm 3 years ago
You did not post regarding Bush and you have not compared him nor McCain to Hitler. You also failed to respond to the issue I raised with your comparison to Hitler. As I said before, just admit it. At least others express their simple hate behind the monitor but you compare the man to Hitler in an attempt to negatively stigmatize him. The media does the same with his wife by only focusing on her clothing and not on her character or accomplishments. People like you make me sick.
CorbenikTheHarbinger 3 years ago
"You also failed to respond to the issue I raised with your comparison to Hitler." Did you read my previous comment? Patriot Act, wiretapping, illegal wars and invasions, corporatist all Hitler like.
"You compare the man to Hitler in an attempt to negatively stigmatize him." And?
"The media does the same with his wife by only focusing on her clothing and not on her character or accomplishments." What has she done except sit on Obamas dick.
lukewarmstorm 3 years ago
lukewarmstorm,
Ah, I hope you have black presidents for the next 32 years.

CorbenikTheHarbinger 3 years ago 9

I know arson is bad, but I think using 1.2 million of misappropriated money to remodel an office kind of cancels that out.
wisdumcube 3 years ago
This comment has received too many negative votes show
So let me get this straight, a CEO of a company spends 1.2 million to redecorate his office and the people upset about that are the same ones who just spent 170 million on the inaguration of the guy who can't believe 1.2 million was spent?!?

If you've watched this broadcast, the myth of the expense of the Inauguration has been blown.
With security added in, the difference with the Bush inauguration may be in Obama's favor.
Selective thinking rules the conservative.
facelesshorseman 3 years ago 5
and how would it be in Obama's favor?
thisisrumorcontrol 3 years ago

Lastknownuser 3 years ago 2

That guy should be punished like in the old days: shackled, and subjected to rotten tomatoes and egs thrown by people who walk by. It could actually be a way to return some of the money he spent: set up a tent where you can buy old vegetables that would otherwise go to dump.

boundless1986 3 years ago 3
In a theoretical: it would be interesting if the banks collapsed. Because we would have a chance to rebuild them from the ground up, and start the process over again... I.E. screw that, remove the monetary system and we'd be better off.
