I'm thinking about going with .260 rem but ammo is a big problem. How much would i need to spend to start hand loading? I probably should go with 308 .
wow aint ten reloads pushing it.i usually only go 3 mabe 4. damn nice equipment though. i have to hand measure my powder and debur by hand. i also use my debur tool for length..it takes a long time to reload. someday i hope to get better stuff..love seira game kings also and rcbs dies.
@nccamokid - Chamfer and Deburring is after trimming cases to removeing the burrs that is created and sharp edges on the inside and outside necks of cases.
I am really curious about the sequence in steps performed. You are really trimming to length, chamfer and deburring before you actually size the case? How do you know what the final length is going be be if you are trimming before re sizing (in which is the step that will make the case longer)?
Nicely done, but there are some steps that technically are not needed.Just offering some suggestions from a Benchrest Shooter. Once you uniform the primer pocket and flash hole there is no need to do it after each firing. A high quality powder measure will do the same as weighing the charges out and speed up your loading. Also, a C-clamp on your case trimmer will make that process a lot easier. And I'd trim the cases after they are sized.
How long did you have to run the walnut shells, to get them to quit leaving a red residue on the brass? or did you clean them in some way. I bought lyman walnut media and it left everything red including my tumbler.
@lilwedgie80 - That is an excellent question! Lyman turbo cleaning media treated tufnut , It does leave a slight red residue on the brass, You can rinse that with warm water just make sure the brass is dry on the in side before you start reloading.
@ColdFusion0 wow, you're vid is so close to the set up I'm trying to make it's scary even to the Lee O-ring press, I got a Savage 10FP in 308, and have everything I need to reload... just haven't found the time for it yet... (your scale was gonna be my upgrade too)... Hornady Match 175gr BTHP Match I was able to get 1/8-1/4 MOA on... just curious what powders/bullets have you found work well? ...and with what results?
Even if you don't reply, Thank you Very Much for making this vid.
I am sure this question has been asked a hundred time but roughly how long does it take to load 50 round, besides tumbling the brass, with a single stage like that
@UMRem300 Hand loading is more cost effective as well as way more consistent so in turn it does affect accuracy but if your content with factory loads there is nothing "wrong" with them.
Just wondering why you trimmed the cases before re-sizing? Always thought you should trim after re-sizing since the re-sizing may actual "change" the size of the case.
so for a guy with so much invested in his setup why not spend the extra 20 bucks for carbide dies and save having to lube your cases for resizing? (Just got a kit and haven't even started loading yet so I'm wondering if normal dies with lube have an advantage over carbide, you seem to know what your doing so i thought i'd ask)
- I'll add that carbide dies on rifle cases aren't recommended for one reason alone. Case studies have shown that 1 out of 30 odd rifle brass that have been sized with a carbide die have a case bulge at the base near the rim. This is due to the case being rippled, if you will, while sizing in the carbide die. There is one company who will be releasing a new version of a rifle carbide die at shot show next week. I can't go into specifics for obvious reasons... it hasn't happened yet. :)
great work but i would suggest a sturdier work bench it looks like its gonna snap in half when ur resizing. nothing like a cold day drinking coffee, reloading and listening to great music.
I'm also curious about the powder scale you were using and its functionality. My friend ordered an expensive digital scale, but sent it back, as its consistency was anything but accurate, but was aware it was made in China.
When resizing your shells, we would have liked to have seen how you adjust the cutter for the correct length or a narration of it as you work through the different processes.
However, some of the equipment you used is unfamiliar, but having your advice on what you know about them may have been helpful in offering your expertise and advice. Personally, I think I'd lean a little more toward the automated system, knowing there is still the other tasks. Nice job!
You are a man of few or no words. Love your video and thank you for the reply. You have an awesome collection of hand pressed rounds. Love the music mix too. Thanks cold fusion!
do you use different gun powder for pistols? Im new to reloading. I just got a lee single stage press. Also starters, Is it the same starter for 9mm, 45acp, and 223? Thanks for your help.
@skateboy159 A good basic rifle/pistol set up will cost you about $400-$500 for the equipment and supplies for your 1st caliber. Additional calibers will normally cost less than $100 for dies and such. For common calibers you can save 1/3. For more exotic calibers 1/2 or more. The key word is basic. Fancy electric stuff costs more.
@derekdl7rock - Yes I do trim the brass. On this video I`m neck sizing only. You need to lube inside of the case neck onlu if you full size and the die is getting stuck on the way out.
If I start out with a really good reloading kit for a .308 and .223 (unlimited funds) can you suggest me with one? I don't like the turret reloading kit from Lee... thank you sir...

Hmmmm, people tell me I need to learn how to reload, but that sure seems like a lot of work! I'm trying to decide if it is worth the investment. I do not shoot a lot, but I do like the idea of maintaining a healthy storage of rounds. Having skills as a reloader (and the tools to do it) certainly seems like a it could be a high-value skill if shortages become a problem!
odd thing i noticed in this video haha, your listening to the same songs that my father listens to when he is in the shed... well he actually listens to recordings.
What kind of reloading kit do you have? I've been looking at hornady and such some are around 300$ other 900$... whats something good to start with for reloading 308. 223 45 and 40 calibers ??
I used to reload a lot when I was shooting NRA Highpower. I always loathed doing it however. Those little .223 casings just aren't any fun to reload. Lubing them and resizing was a major pain in the ass. I don't mind reloading straight walled hand gun rounds though. The RCBS carbide dies are great for those since you don't have to mess with any case lube.
I'd recommend placing all of your brass neck down in the reloading block prior to powder charging. Then turn them over one at a time when you charge to avoid accidentally double charging any round. With a .308 you are fairly safe but with some pistol rounds it is possible without noticing the double charge.
Thank you for making this video !!!!!!!!!!!! so much to learn!!! I have 5 reloading books and Im used to .45 (Ive done thousands of rounds) but this is my first
Why do you have the table carpeted? I'm just starting out reloading and I'm looking different ways to set up my bench. Looks like you have a good system going. Does the carpet keep the brass from rolling on the floor or what?
Also, where do i get my hands on one of those motorized chamfer/deburrer that you have?
Thanks for the info, although i have been reloading for about a year i still consider myself a learner. I must admit i only uniform the pockets once and same for the primer hole internally. To clean carbon deposits etc i did use a small soft wire ( brass etc ) type rotating brush as this only removes deposits and does not affect shape & size etc.
What i have been doing recently is trying out ultrasonic cleaning with some pretty good results. Once again nice vid. Cheers
Pocket uniformer makes the hole bigger and after few times the primers become loose. Chamfered flash hole remouves carbon build up from bench rest primers.
Very well made video mate! Only suggestion I have and it's something that helped my process was put a little Lee die grease inside the resizing die to stop the die jamming when decapping and sizing. I reload .308, .223 & .243 and I love it! Nothing more satisfying then pulling the trigger on a big pig knowing you made the round! Keep up the good work!
Nice reloading bench-- I am so jealous. Great video.
Have you tried Vihtavuori powder to go along with those Lapua cases? It costs a bit dearly, but apparently 40gn pushing a 150gn Lapue MEGA or Scenar is the mutt's nuts for .308 accuracy.
This is a very well done operation. I do my .308 sniper rifle loads pretty close to the same (same amount of steps atleast). 1 inch group at 300 is a fair grouping given wind speed and minutes. One thing I do have to laugh about, the perfect music intro at 7:55. Spinning that bullet with that song made me laugh a little. Great Vid ColdFusion0!!

Why are you trimming before you FL size?
Cases get longer when you size them...

Hi,
Thanks for the info, although i have been reloading for about a year i still consider myself a learner.
Cheers

Nice vid but couple of questions, when you chamfered the internal primer hole why did you do it from the pocket side as well?
Also why didn't you use the primer pocket uniformer to square all the pockets?
