  • You always ca buy at our boutique we order or S.F.opera.I've seen this play Its beautiful.Bravo Samy.

  • bravoooooooo

  • The best Dapertuto I've ever heard!

  • Che brano meraviglioso...

  • I hugged my monitor

  • Absolutely amazing! To my ears this is the best rendition, bar none. I have listened attentively to a good number of other ones but time and time again, this is just high above them.

Ramey, the best bass-baritone of his generation...or mine.

  • I like this rendition, too, but it sounds to me like it's in D, a whole-step below the original which is in E. That would put the high note at the end at F# instead of G#. I wonder why.

    thanks and regards

  • What a voice!

  • This tape has not a sound that gives justice to what it was...People should not judge from a simple copy.

  • he's a bass, but what bass..

those are miracle of the nature...

matteuzzi once asked to him " how do you can mantain this sound all in the mask?" and he answered " i dunno, i sing and think with the nose"

    what artist!!!

  • you learn that in school and through lessons.... after years of doing it, it come with ease

  • What is the mean of "dunno"?

  • @2javivi1 , It's "don't know" kind of slurred together.

  • @bassfanne45 Aaaah, thank you so much.

  • Bass - Baritone, okay?

  • Baquet est-il meilleur

    j'en doute

    Belle voix de Ramey

  • Of course this has to be quite a few years old. I haven't heard much of him lately, but he was one of the greatest baritons in the 80s.

  • ...bass, not baritone

  • @bassfanne45 He is a bass, not a bass-baritone. He just has an incredibly wide and flexible range.

  • @omarchidofine ...dal vivo baritono Rossiniano,non basso

  • It's not in key but he sings it well. This is as hard as that bloody toreador song , the only person I ever heard sing the hell out of this was Robert Massard

  • @jamesjmertins, You might want to check out Ramey's Escamillo, also on YouTube.

  • coool

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • bravo! unglaublich!

  • There is nothing wrong with the voice. There is a distortion in the recording. Amazing that a deep bass can sing this baritone aria so perfectly.

  • A bass-baritone is a voice that is between a bass and a baritone. The range is not high enough to be a full baritone and not thick enough to be a full bass. Sam Ramey is a full bass with exceptional high notes.

  • Nowhere on his web site is he referred to as a bass-baritone. It says that he is a bass who sings bass and bass-baritone roles. So it specifically says he is a bass. It does not say he is a bass- baritone. All of the myspace pages specifically say that Ramey is not affiliated with them! Additionally they say the same thing his web page does. That he is a bass. They all say this because he is a bass. The MET programs classify him as bass to. Not bass-baritone.

  • Oh please! read again. The "GOOGLE tag" says opera bass-baritone. The "site" says bass. I'm going with what Sam wrote. Silly me. Read The Concise Oxford Dictionary of Opera definition of bass baritone. The operative word is "between". It is a voice "between" a bass and a baritone. It is not a bass with good high notes as you have said. Bryn Terfel is a text book, bass-baritone. Do you hear any similarity between their voices?? I think not.

  • @paldrich1 This discussion is pointless. You are harrassing me. I've blocked you from my channel. Leave me alone, or i will report you.

  • @paldrich1 For baritones it is written in E major; when a deep bass sings it, it is taken down a whole step (like here), also in D Major, that makes the "attire lá" at the end a high F#. I think only Diaz, who is a high bass (with an incredible voice of being able to sing Sarastro AND Macbeth) can sing this magnificent aria in E Major.

  • @gallferi Actually Sam could sing this aria in either key. As a deep bass it makes more sense for him to sing it in the lower accepted key. I know of no other bass who has/had the usable range that Sam Ramey has. Here on Youtube you can hear him perform everything from a profundo low D-flat to a baritone high A-flat. His F- sharps were the best I have ever heard from any male singer. This is a one of a kind voice. I heard him fill Symphony hall in Boston with an interpolated low C.

  • @gallferi I've heard Diaz's MacBeth and his high notes are very strained. I've never felt he was wise to tackle the role of MacBeth. There are many other roles that suit his voice better.

  • Something wrong with his voice that night in the hight range. You can tell he's being very careful. Listen to the Sills/Treigle recording.

  • Impressive voice at low tones. Not so much at high ones.

  • MY GOD...............

  • Impeccable as usual!
