You're right, that's basically what's happening. But considering the CVT does it for you...seamlessly at that, and most drivers seem to prefer automatics these days, I think it work well.
Wouldn't it be better to couple a hybrid system to a manual transmission and implement a charging system when you switch to a lower gear and decelerate? I'm still not sold on CVT transmissions yet.
Greg, some people felt that the display guage looked a little too busy, but I find it more informative. If I'd set it up, I'd put the tach on, but I found out if the car goes higher than 47 MPH, the display guage will have a tach.
I love my Fusion Hybrid! I got all of the bells and whistles minus the leather (eww) and it's the best car I could've asked for. This was also a good review. If only Ford put MyFord Touch in them.
it looks cool, but ford its interior looks like every other car, all plastic u know, nissan altima and maxima they have a much sportier sexier look in the interior
TvbLOVER1 - probably thinking of the Toyota Prius, which gets better mileage. The HS250h might look better but gets about 5 mpg less than the Fusion.
@Greendude33 WOW. you do know that that these new hybrid systems for ford are exported out of japan...talk about being a "american."
The reason why american cars are getting better is because they are getting help from european and japanese auto makers. Like GM from germany and China. And Ford from Japan and Mazda.
Hey. Uhm I was actually thinking of going with lexus, so can you give me an honnest unbiased opinion? Have you had any trouble with their cars or do you have proof of their failures? Thanks. (dont want to risk my life just because lots of reviews say the car is good)
You're probably confusing the Prius with the HS250h. The Lexus does about 5 mpg worse than the Fusion. The Prius does better, though it's a smaller car.
@jfdyj I'm about 5' 8", but I tend to raise my seat quite a bit. This model was equipped with the moonroof, which cuts down on headroom some, but its about average.
Prius also doesn't make Toyota profit. Which is why it's the only one in the market currently. Because there's no money in to right now. Soon, yes, which is why everyone, including Ford is readying up a dedicated hybrid.
The Ford POS Hybrid has better MPG because its only a SULEV vehicle while the Camry is a AT-PZEV which means it still meets SULEV standard and goes beyond by having ZERO emissions from its fuel system. If Ford had to meet this standards it would be a different story for them. The Camry has more room inside more power more features and weights less and less expensive and more quality than than Ford can even dream about having. People need to start doing research instead of believing their ads.
Lol you sound like a real dumbass now. Yeah buy a 2010 hybrid camry! The quality is so good trhat the car drives itself.... into lakes and oncoming cars killing passengers/innocent drivers of quality cars (aka non-toyota)
I am really finding it hard to love the interior of the Fusion. Especially with this tan color, it just looks incredibly bland. It needs either stronger contrasts with the steering wheel and dash, or some faux wood or something. The Milan's two-tone contrasting interior is much better, though the very feminine front styling would be a turnoff for me.
Except for the sun roof (does anyone really use those?) it is a great car. My 6'5" frame fits nicely in the car. I could do without the leather as well.
Excellent review. I just wanted to clarify one point that Greg mis-spoke. On the Empower version of the instrument cluster, there is a gauge called "ACC". This is not Acceleration as he said a few times. From the Owners Manual: This gauge indicates electrical power demands from your vehicles accessory systems. Accessories such as air conditioning, headlights, and radio use power but
@gcavy1 I know this is a stupid question but im only 17 and I like this car but I do not know anything about driving hybrids? how is it different than driving non hybrids? are hybrids still capable of going fast as non hybrid cars?
@jfdyj thanks for checking out the video. The Fusion is really no slower than any other 4-cylinder family sedan. Its not a rocket, but its comparable to vehicles in its class
I really dont see what age has to do with what car you want. I drive a turbo B16A equip honda civic SiR running 12s on 1/4mile and still street driven. but i picked one of these up for my DD and it does just want i want. awesome on gas cheap on insurence. i get the best of both worlds you really need two cars if you want to go fast and get good gas mileage.
@hellcat320 Yeah. Also a lexus is nothing like a toyota(Handling intiriors etc) I guess that's why its called a luxury division. I have driven allions the camry and yaris a few times plus I test drove the gs450 so I know.
governed at 108mph so it can go as fast as your really going to want to go on the street. clearly its not a track car so nobody cares about going that fast. acceleration sucks but if you want to go 0-60 in sub 5s your A: not looking for gas mileage and B: not looking for a hybrid. this car does 0-60 in 8.5mph which is plenty for what its designed to do, which is go far, not fast.
When I have Money I will buy me all these cars. They are the most fuel efficient Hybrid cars in the market right now.
1. Honda Civic Hybrid.
2. Ford Fusion Hybrid.
3. Chevrolet Volt Plug-in Hybrid.
4. Toyota Prius Plus-in Hybrid.

This is why American have the worst taste in design. The chrome looks cheap like it's of a kid's play thing.

as for Lexus they have to worry about the new Buick Lacrosse rated higher by every major independent auto study.
