  • Main riff: bass (4-string).

    Invented (type) notation: a=low A (open 3rd string); A=middle A (2nd string 7th fret).

    Number=fraction-note, e.g., a16 = low A played as 16th note.

    / a16-a16 dotted-half-rest A8 /

    / dotted-quarter-rest a-8 A16-A16 dotted-quarter-rest /

    / a16-A16-A16-A16 quarter-rest 16th-rest-A16-A32-A32-A32-A32 16th-rest-A16-A8 /

    / A32-A32-a16-A16-A16 a16-A16-A32-A32-A16 half-rest /

Those 32nd notes at this tempo (124 bpm) are a bitch!

(I can only play this at around 96 bpm.)

  • Goddamn I love this fucking song. The whole show is great, one of my very, very favorites.

    Thanks for posting!

  • I saw ZPZ last year and wasn't impressed. Dweezil does a good approximation of Frank's guitar playing but really has no appreciation for the actual music. This was most evident in the choice of material covered. Zappa's music ranges from genious to dreck (mainly post '77 material) and Dweezil mainly went with the dreck.

I've seen two other Zappa cover bands (Bogus Pomp and The Grandemothers) and they were both awesome. The Grandemothers in fact were awe-inspiring. The Brock rocks!

  • @meanbrew the DVD is awsome. and has a wide range of songs.

  • Love Frank of all my heart:)

  • I was there!!!!

It was the best concert I have ever seen.

    I am not kidding.

  • heavy compressing ;-) but i like those bootlegs

  • one of the most brilliant songs of all time...

  • I see there a lot of ZpZ haters.. I saw them perform Andy and it ripped! Thanks for posting this.

  • rippin

  • half of z plays z is on tape.

If you like it in the can,

    go with z plays z.

50 bucks a tix for fake shit

    it would make Frank puke,

    and laugh,

and probably ask for a cut.

  • I believe that Frank just wanted his music to be played, and ZpZ is doing just that. Regardless of how they are doing it, they are trying to keep with Frank's wishes.

  • I will never give the dweez another cent, I actually walked out on the show when he diverted to a jumbotron tv of his dad playing the solo, he's a punk bitch with no career of his own and doesn't have the decency to learn so he diverts to video of his dad, no respect!! he is a money hungry bastard just like his momma is a money hungry bitch!!

  • ZPZ blows away every other Zappa tribute band out there. Dweezil took the time to learn a lot of passages that weren't written for guitar and are virtually impossible to play. It took years of practice. A large part of the money made goes back into ZFT so that they can continue to release Frank's music from the vault. And the video of Frank on the screen behind the band-obviously paying homage to the genius behind it all.

  • @WazWarptonMyspace

Maybe it is the case. I haven't seen any of the cover bands yet. But I would feel much more inclined to go see Project Object to see Ike Willis and Ray White than I would be to see Frank Zappa's son and a bunch of non-members.

  • @grant1r But ZPZ plays it right....

  • @FZmustacheFZ

Yeah if you want to go in and watch them play studio versions of the song.

  • @grant1r I'd like to know what band you're going to see, mate. Frank didn't really change things ALL that drastically for the live shows. Just the usual "add this in here", which ZPZ does some of as well. And I'd rather see good musicians play "studio" versions of the songs and play interesting solos and whatnot than go see a band who takes the basic frame of Frank's songs and changes all kinds of things inside of that frame. The Mona Lisa is no longer composed by Da Vinci if it has a mustache..

  • @FZmustacheFZ

No but the music of Zappa is equally comprised of its members and I would rather see Ike Willis and Ray White do their stuff.

  • @grant1r youtube it for free

  • @WazWarptonMyspace Absolutely! Finally someone who agrees! Nice opinions, sir!(:

  • @FZmustacheFZ Most certainly do! Frank Composed his music for a reason,it was meant to be played the way he wrote it and it was up to Him to change it whenever he damn well felt like it,and that's why ZPZ doesn't take liberties with his Compositions!!!

  • All Frank's studio albums were built on live performances with overdubs wherever they were needed. The finished product as heard by the listener was his utmost concern.

  • @WazWarptonMyspace not all but alot of them were.

    Cheers!

  • @wombsquid:thanks for the clarification. Do you happen to know which albums were and weren't, besides the MOI albums?

  • @WazWarptonMyspace

    Live, no overdubs:

Tinsletown Rebellion, with the exception of the first two tracks.

    Shut Up series

    Guitar

All the released recordings from the 1988 tour, although FZ would sometimes edit tracks/tunes together by a cut and paste method-- so, as the term goes, no overdubs.

  • brilliant composition, nice version of Andy !

I dare to say that like very often the thing i like the less is Frank guitar solo but it's normal cos' the written parts are so great. Same in tunes like "Alien Orifice" and many other things. I much prefer Dwizeel's solos in other songs and of course Vai or Keneally have much more guitar technique.

Thanks to ZPZ , we gonna hear FZ genius for a while and they do such a good job !

  • Some other guitarists may have a more technical approach, but no guitarist can match FZ for feeling, emotion and giving the obligitary goosebumps. No other musician had the balls, or the audacity to go out and perform live improvised compositions in front of a live audience..

    Cheers, Shaun

  • sorry my friend but Frank used to play with the brain, also, not only with the finger.

  • @jubilman 'the thing i like the less is Frank guitar solo / of course Vai or Keneally have much more guitar technique'. the thing is, Vai or Keneally wouldn't agree with your approach to this music at all. FZ built these songs so he could solo his way in them, so you're kind of missing something essential comparing them to other guitarists who have a more cut-and-dried approach. You should see Dweezil or Keneally faithfully executing an improvised FZ solo, as it's a gem, and try to get the idea

  • Thanks for the post. FZ lives on...

  • Forget everthing else, the solo is priceless.

  • Unfortunately, the vocals are a bit dead here.

Great on One Size Fits All.

Afraid they were still learning here (!980 was a transition yr), altho Steve Vai comes to the rescue.

Z plays Z has become a bad joke.

  • I'd vote for Frank, dead or alive. Is there anything good inside of you? If there is I really wanna know! What a great song..well done by Zappa Plays Zappa too. Love this!!!

  • im afraid he's dead

  • Then he'd probably win my State...the dead rise up on election day and vote all the time here.
