HSUS does not run a single animal shelter, of the 131 million raised in 2010 only 527,566, or 0.4 percent went to any shelter nationwide while $32 million went into hedge funds.
As local shelters struggle to keep their doors open, HSUS is raising millions of dollars a month from unwitting donors to bankroll an animal rights agenda and fund a huge staff of lawyers and lobbyists, a bloated executive pension plan, and exorbitant fundraising expenses
@MrFederalistPapers Actually the lobbying power of HSUS is indispensable for animal welfare which helps cure the problem (animal cruelty/lack of animal welfare laws). Shelters too are important, but are dealing with the symptoms due to lack of laws for animals. People get away with what they are allowed to get away with. If it wasn't for big organizations like HSUS, animals would have absolutely NO VOICE in government. And that's a fact.
@MrFederalistPapers Humanwatchorg is sponsored by the meat industry, and they will spread propaganda against any organization that supports vegan/vegetarianism. Hundreds of these cats did indeed found homes thanks to the HSUS, and they have the lobbying power to make a voice in Congress which otherwise animals would have no voice in law making matters.
@MrFederalistPapers Except local shelters do NOT have any lobbying powers whatsoever. Ending animal cruelty begins with creating laws to protect animals and shelters-though essential too-do NOT have that kind of power to make a voice in Congress, not even in State legislatures. Organizations like HSUS often sits in Senate hearings to fight for animal laws.
Why can't there be better awareness?? why are these hoarder "sanctuaries" stopped before it gets to this point for hundreds, thousands of cats if people know that they are THERE?? All this suffering.... believe me I know the world of cats, they can get pregnana while nursing, 60 days gestation and then females fm litters can get pregnant at less than a yr, 7, 8 9 months? Don't understand why Animal Planet/Animal Cops NEVER explains cat problem this way. How the numbers explode.
Thank you so much for caring!!! I did not think they were ppl that did I suffer so much when I see animals suffering I love animals I have 3 cats and 2 dogs and at my moms she has 5 dogs and one just had 5 puppies we are looking for loving homes fir them
I sent 3 cats from our rescue group to that place...I feel so sick to my stomach...Those cats had microchips...Does anyone have an idea who to contact about trying to find out if they survived.
@Elgatovolar Try calling Alachua County, Florida animal control. I'm sure they know. I think if you contact the "sanctuary" they are willing to try to find and bring home your cats-if they survived the cruelty that is.
Does the HSUS subscribe to No Kill philosophy? Are all the rescued animals given the chance for rehabilitation? Who takes all these animals, cares for them until they're healthy, & adopts them out? What about unsocialized/feral/timid cats? What happens to the unadoptables?
@AllAboutDogs101 About a year ago there was another hoarder-10th Life Cat Sanctuary in Clewiston, FL. 600 cats were removed. Many had to be euthanized-they were beyond help. Thousands have died on the guy's property. There were even dead cats in the freezer. (Makes me wonder WHY there were dead cats in his freezer--if that was his idea of "euthanizing"-freezing them to death.)

Give directly to your local shelters NOT HSUS
