David has always felt protective of Greenlee since Leo died. He isn't Ryan's biggest fan so he felt like he was helping her by keeping her hidden away. In David's mind no one (Ryan, Kendall, Jack etc.) were "worthy" enough to know the truth. I personally think that there's a bit of selfishness in all that as well and David wasn't just doing it out of the goodness of his heart. Anything to stick it to the ones he despises is an added bonus.
Greenlee and Leo were married. David and Leo are brothers. and Leo made David promise that if anything happened to him, he would look after Greenlee. David agreed. When Leo died, David always protected her and loved her. He felt Ryan wasn't worth Greenlee's time and tried several times including teaming up with Jack to break Greenlee and Ryan apart. the plan failed. Greenlee threatened to disown them both. and has disowned david several times but always forgave him. she can't help but love him.
He was hidding Greenlee when everbody thought she was dead, He's hidding Dixie, heck I bet he's hidding Leo too.
