I used to take a fireteam 4 marines and my Radio operator up to the DMZ and just wait for a large unit of NVA to come on down and then blow them away. 6 guys! They could not beat us on the battlefield. North Vietnam won the war by default, Period! 39 of us took Hill 861 away from them and 200 were found in a shallow grave later.

Unlike the French at Dien Bin Phu the US weathered the Khe Sanh attacks and the NVA took extreme casualties and then the marines went into the hills and went nuts shooting and bayoneting the NVA. No victory for Gen Giap who whipped the French. Those 175's were great. I was a FO there and used them often, as well as the jets. Sat Cong!

In our battle of 39 against god knows how many we took 12 dead and the NVA buried 200 in a shallow grave that we found later. .

My father served in Vietnam and was also in Khe Sahn. No one on either side of the war were cowards. Until you see the effects that the war had on the young men that were sent there you have no idea of what they went through there. My dad is still fighting this war after so many years due to ptsd. He along with the many that served there not only risked thier lives but thier minds as well. So please dont feel sorry for them just tell them thank you.

One thing that send the North Vietnamese to the peace talks was when we took the battle to them.

The bombing of Hanoi and Haiphong did more to stop the war than the piecemeal killing in the South. The NVA leadership could care less about the losers it sent south..but when the gloves came off and the B52s flew over Hanoi..then the wanted it to end.
