Romney destroyed him in this debate, but the people of Massachusetts wanted federal government controlled healthcare. To not put thought into universal healthcare -which Romney puts a uniquely private sector flavor to it- in this race would have made his chances absolutely zero. As it is Kennedy had a throne that was safely his. Conservative ideas cannot win in such a depraved liberal state. The best you can do is stop them from lurching into government controlled everything.

Mitt Romney implemented health care in such a way that achieved almost universal health care while reducing the cost for the government, erasing a $3 billion deficit in the process. Coming in under budget is fiscally conservative, and I'm all for it.

He ultimately says the Federal Government should NOT take over the health care system. This was 1994. As a Reagan conservative, that makes me happy to know his position has not changed much.

Romney has claimed in his presidential campaign that RomneyCare was only something he wanted for the people of Massachusetts, but in this clip he says the exact opposite.
