Obviously a non-turbo diesel engine is slow, that is one of the reasons they put turbos on them. So yes a non-turbo diesel will be beat in a race against a 350 or most other decent gas engines. That aside, the diesel was designed to be a low rpm torque engine, they are good at producing torque, and that's what pulls things. And yes this is an unfair contest with these two trucks. We did it for fun and to finish off some tires. Who cares what brand pulled against what brand.

Actually not really, the turbo has nothing to do with what is happening, first off the duramax is way heavier than the blazer, second the blazer doesn't have a limited slip. I would put a my money on a 6.2 blazer against a blazer of the same size with the 350, simply for weight.  You think a turbo and tire speed wins tug of wars? Think again, try lighting up the tires on your pickup, and have someone push sideways on the box, it will float side to side.

And by the way, theres no turbo that will make a diesel "run faster", only better mileage and power, more air in the cylinders to expand. A 6.2 non turbo will float the valves just as fast as a 6.2 turbo. It's all the heads and the crank.

I said nothing about turbos winning tug of wars, I said turbos make the truck faster. As far as your statement on the turbo not making the truck faster, spend a day at the track once, ask people why they turbo their vehicles if it doesn't make them faster. Turbo makes more air to cylinders yes, makes more power yes, more power makes things accelerate quicker.

the blazer has a 350 at the biggest, put the dmax against something in its own league. and the dmax weighs double what the blazer does. put it against an sts turbo'd 8.1 and see what happens

My duramax had bald tires on it and I couldnt get the blazer moving until I put it in 4hi. I was surpised seeing as I weigh 7400 lbs and have a few toys in the truck for power. exactly tundradave24...say have you been to a chevy dealer of late. GMs trucks are pretty sweet. I can say as an informed knowlegeable individual that ones you get beyond all of the anti american propaganda the Silverado has a lot on the tundra. It would be great if we could get you into a new silverado. I think you will agree with me, not now but on later person to truck inspection that the silverado has alot nicer refined interior than the tundra, and better reliablity ratings.

yah i test drove the silverado in 07 when i got the tundra , it did have a nicer interior, however i couldnt over look the more power, torque , 6sp , and better brakes of the tundra, let alone the fact that toyota gave me a better deal, every truck has pro/cons, however as an informed buyer when i go get another new truck next year im gonna go test drive all of them again, definatly wanna drive that vortech max package that wasnt out in 07, what anti american propaganda are you talkng about btw

The media puts out alot of anti american propaganda in regards to the american auto industry. If you read Road and Track or any of those other mags you can find a lot of bias in the articles and authors making statements against american manufactures that are simlply not true. Or they def. tend to be way over glorifying of the jap cars making positive statements about them that simply are not true. Unfortunately many ppl buy into it.
