  • OK you're right, no need for your name calling though...sorry I didn't check. I'm more of an arcade and A8 person..

  • Exuse me but your have your settings on black and white!

The birds are actually in color.

  • playstation x-box suk

  • I have an intellavision and atari guess who wins

  • Is this the CGR HD Pilot episode? haha.

  • @burr1aj: That's Zaxxon for the Atari 2600.

  • Colecovision version ruled

  • man old school....dig it

  • i must play it on xbla!

  • I guess this is the first modern CGR episode D:

  • That sounds kinda like when Mario jumps in SMB.

  • Yeah. Can't go wrong with Joust. Used to play that game for days.

  • Classic Game Room,I Have Been Looking For The 007 Reviews However I Saw 007 GoldenEye But I've When To The Joust Reviews.Your Page IS....AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!:)-JoshuaNight332

  • wow the atari still liveson in the heart of serious gamers.

  • Bird Ass!

That's a fantastic running joke. They should have it on T-Shirts if they don't already.

  • Thanks to your show I got my first atari 2600 a few months ago, and I just bought a sealed joust of ebay for pretty cheap. Cant wait to do some bird assing on the 2600, love the show. You should make another DVD first one was great.

  • The reason the eggs don't land is because the Atari is limited to only two sprites, therefore you can't have more than two enemy birds (or eggs) on the same scanline.

So the programmer decided it was easier to just have the eggs fly through the air, rather than deal with a flickering mess of overloaded sprites.

  • Yup, the game is already flickering birds(player 1 and 2, and two enemy birds and eggs) consistently. It isn't noticeable or distracting on a television screen. Also, if a pterodactyl is on the same line as the 2 enemies birds, one bird disappears.

Also, I believe Mark's black and white switch is on black and white.Otherwise we would see colors on the enemies.

Also, this game is played best on the Sega Genesis controller! I can't stand using the joystick for this game. Great fun game though!

  • @harleykman The 2600 doesn't even have sprites !

  • @AtariAndre42 You're a dipshit for being so damn dumb

    .

I could excuse your ignorance if we were living in the pre-web dark ages, but we have wikipedia now. It confirms that that Atari VCS/ 2600 had 2 player sprites. All you had to do was look it up

    .

  • @harleykman Well 2 sprites of 8pix width and 3 sprites of 1pix width. :)

  • @AtariAndre42 It does but not like you are think of ,digitized sprites that was a new thing in the 90's. Any pixels used to make an object is classed as a sprite

  • @harleykman I see more than two enemy bird in that Review.o.o

  • i remember thinking at one time that joust was like the mideval game played with the pointy sticky thingies and horses. wow this game looks wayyyyyyyyy different than i thought it would

  • Picture this, its 1983, you're 12 years old on Christmas vacation. Yours and your nieghbors parents are at work all day, all week! I had Intelivision, my neighbor had Atari 2600. We listened to Dr. Demento taped from the night before and played video games all day! What fun! Now we got jobs and stuff.

  • Nice review.

  • am i too old if i played this in the 80's?

PS that terodactile is da shit!

  • No way! (coming from a 14 year old) :)

  • Well I had the urge today to dust off my Atari 7800 as it had been inactive for a couple months and fire off some games.

Anyhow after playing Firefigher for about three minutes (lol) I tried some Joust and after a handful of games my highest score was 30,050. Nothing excellent I'm sure, but I figured I'd post it anyway and try to improve on it.

Great review btw. This is a fun game, I need to try the 7800 version.

  • Can you kill the pterodactyl in this version?

  • Yeah you can kill the pterodactl it's hard as hell though as you have to hit a certin part of it's mouth as opposed to just hitting it's mouth while it's open like the arcade version.

  • Where is Dave?

  • i honestly hated the fact that the eggs floated... But, overall, it was a decent version.

  • Aaah Joust...one of the toughest games to play. I hate that damn bird!!

  • There was a Bird Ass 2?

  • you can get Joust 2 on Midway Arcade Treasures for the PS2, Xbox, and i think Gamecube

  • Ya Joust 1 & 2 is on it and like you said it's for all 3 consoles.

  • YAY im sik of usin that damned Atari that doesnt like to work im off to get it for meh gamecube =D

  • pretty sweet
