  • it shouldnt have taken that long to go into high idel ive got an 06 f-350 with 6.0 in it and there was 1 week it sat outside for a week not pulgged in and after about 45 seconds it went straight into high idel so there must b something wrong with it

  • I have a 2005 f350 n started doing the same last year I started plugging it in to see if it would help and it did. This summer it started doing it again and it's getting worst. Some times I'm driving down the road and it will jerk a few times and the power has dropped down. My fuel economy has gone down too. If you find the fix to the problem problem let me know

  • I have the 2006 XL model and it sounds EXACTLY like that in the winter...start-up sequence and all!! I hate to plug it in overnight if I don't plan on driving the next day, but it always helps if I wake up four hours before I need to drive in the winter time to plug it in. Seems a little ridiculous for a 6 year old truck, but maybe it's normal for this model of diesel! Great truck on the road, though!!

    Good luck!

  • Rev x and a plug.

  • Try turning the key on multiple times to warm up.the glow plugs then start it. Plugging it in to the block heater wont hurt either

  • fuel pump? my truck sounds the same but my FICM tested fine...

  • check the oil level

  • ipr is bad, that controls oil preasure. it is under the turbo.

  • using a head bolt heater should make it start fine. and if it takes a while to start up even if it isn't cold then its probably the injectors or just the starter.

  • Ficm..mine went at 110000..

  • and revx didn't do squat for mine, ran valvoline diesel synthetic 5w40 and shell 10w30 diesel the valvoline ran a bit better but at 8 deg above freezing mine wont start this good, but it will clear out in about a minut, or if i plug it in it goes away, but i dont think i should need to plug it in b4 the snow is on the ground

  • @EFSforkliftguy my 2006 6litre was doing the same thing everybody has a cure from new bat fuel pump injectors new oil additives synthetics and the thing that worked for me is a block heater cord $25.00 at the jobbers -30 nights plug in and no probs

  • Wish mine started that good, there's no snow yet and mint takes 10 to 15 trys, its got the right oil in it too

  • Fuel injection control module is your problem

  • That block heater will make all the difference in the world. Forget about the skeptics. I start mine in -50 F at 9,500ft above sea level in Colorado. Ran like shit before I started plugging it in every night. You know it's warm in the engine compartment because the snow doesn't build up on the hood, it just melts all night.

  • Lol, my 04 F-250 did that when I was in Michigan with family and I was soo pissed. Granted it was only on 7 cylinders cuz the lady I bought it from had her brother work on it and didn't tighten down one of the injecters, which yall already now what happend. But yeeah, I just park it inside and let it warm up longer.

  • From my experience both the 6.0 and 6.4 are rubbish. Granted the 6.4 is better than a 6.0, you can actually work on a 6l without pulling the cab. I would say injectors, like most others, because I work at a ford dealership.

  • FICM mine used to do the same thing

  • @PensandSteelersrock thats because of the 6.0 engine it has the new FORD BUILT 6.7 diesels start up way better

  • i cant believe this is a FORD struggiling

  • our truck does the same thing sometimes if not pluged in at night

  • Ok well, I am having this same problem. But I live down south where it is very hot. I have seen different videos. But I cannot decide if it is a bad ficm, or injectors or what. I have not taken it to the local dealer because they will probably want to make the rest of the months rent with my ass, but need info or advise.....

  • @timbalero613 check out this guys video... this is EXACTLY what my 6.0 sounded like when my FICM was bad a few weeks ago. ww.youtube.com/watch?v=76N9_mjoODc I was able to fix the FICM myself....I also live in the south, GA. Let me know if yours sounds like this and I will help if I can!

  • just make that w w w....it wouldnt let me post the link

  • This is the same problem i am having. But my truck does not pop out smoke when starting. This past Tuesday, it would not turn on for nothing. A friend of mine told me to try the filters, so i did. That got it to start again and till today it is running. But I still feel like a missfire on the engine and loss off power when cold. When the truck hits overdrive, it shudders as I press on the accelarator. Once the truck is hot enough, it will work fine and like if nothing is wrong.

  • @timbalero613 I have a 7.3 2005 ford I have had it for seven year it has ran fine till this year now mine is starting just like that i live and always have lived in montana but this year i find that if i plug in my engine heater when it is 30 degrees it states fine if i dont it starts like yours. fun ha our dealer is a joke don't like to go there very often good luck

  • 6.0's and 7.3's both were hard starts under real cold temperatures. Both use HEUI systems and the viscosity of the oil impacts injection. As another poster said this is called stiction. The valve that lets high pressure oil into the injector sticks due to viscosity and quality of your oil. The FICM has been updated several times with new strategies to free up sticking spool valves. It's possible a reprogram of the FICM and putting some miles on the truck will help fix it.

  • 6.0=trash

  • That's a gorgeous truck! my fav color combo. Are you a member of FTE by an chance?

  • Good ole 6.0

  • Replace the FICM that is your problem. Mine had the same problem. Once I replaced mine it did a 180 in the way it ran.

  • this is called 'stiction'. use REV-X

  • Sounds like the FICM needs to be replaced or repaired.

  • Ok, this is coming from a Minnesota guy with a 6.0 your truck is just fine. this is what happens to trucks whos owners dont use block heaters. simple as that. your injectors are just fine. last night it was -30 and my plug in for the block heater broke the week before. it took me an hour to get it going. when it starts this cold it will run like shit until the engine gets to operational temps. it wont shift correctly or nothing until then. dont worry, your fine. get a block heater.

  • rev x oil additive and plug it in....just a suggestion...

  • Your truck is doing EXACTLY what my '05 6.0 is doing right now. When it first starts it sounds like the rods are about to come thru the hood.My diesel mechanic diagnosed it as the FICM. I'm pretty sure it's not the EGR, or injectors as I did the EGR delete almost a year ago.My mechanic said my batteries were about toast and if I installed 2 new batteries it could possibly help it did for a few weeks..my mechanic also said if I added a block heater will extend the FICM

  • @2222clod All 2005 already have a block heater. They do not, however all have the block heater cord. If yours does not have the cord, you can order it off ebay for less than $20.00 US. It helps a ton!!! My truck has been perfect since I had the oil cooler and egr cooler replaced!!! I am relieved. Also, I want to add, I love this truck despite the money I have had to put into it. You might need to have your oil cooler looked at/replaced. I made a video on installing the block heater cord.

  • @2222clod I just havent posted it yet. Best and cheapest investment to truck so far. starts immediately each crank now and warmup time is drastically decreased!! Thanks for the comment and good luck!

  • @2222clod Just need to use full synthetic oil not regular diesel oil. It will start alot better and have more power in the cold. May take a few oil changes to help it completely and it is more expensive but well worth it. I got two 05's and they have never been plugged up or had FICM problems.

  • Your injectors are junk, put new set in and flash the ecm to the latest version, flash helps a ton...

  • If you keep getting bad injectors it might be where you fuel up is using shitty diesel fuel

  • Easiest fix...... sell it to someone who is dumb enough to buy it before the more serious issues happen. 6.0's are ticking time bombs. There is a reason Ford shit canned International and are in a massive lawsuit with them. Which, obviously is because of the 6.0L Powerstroke.

  • Comment removed

  • Respond to this video...You are correct about this for sure. Sad but true.

  • Are you grinding coffee or running a proper diesel engine?

  • 6 leaker, power smoke diesel... LOL

  • Every powerstroke has that issue. Real solution? Get a CUMMINS

  • @snorkelinatv08 really expensive to do, but not all 6.0's are shit.

  • i love Fords...but the Powerstroke is a disgrace to Fords name....just my opinion

  • @strumem90 The 6.0 powerstroke is a disgrace. 7.3 powerstroke is fine.

  • @96sunvalley shit, very true, you can piss in the gas tank and pour honey in the crankcase and the 7.3 will still run everyday. Only problem with them is emissions, but as long as they don't smoke at idle here in Ontario, they pass

  • I've been around these engines and have a little bit of experience with them. Everyone that I know that has them has either traded to the older 7.3's or the good ol cummins 5.9. I have never heard a "good" 6.0 powerstroke cold start. These engines are known for injector stiction so new injectors will help

  • Sounds like a blown alcohol dragster.

  • 25 to 60 mph (blowing smoke during this). Finally, just started blowing smoke and not moving. Good ole egr crap.. should have done the egr delete like I was told by a buddy of mine..just didnt want ford to say they wouldnt work on it anymore.

  • @Tleffew1 man it sounds like this just truck just dosent like ya with all these problems. When my egr cooler went I just got the whole RCD delete kit. It's still too early to tell how mines gonna hold up but I hope she holds up well. After havin this 6L uve prolly lost a lil faith in ford.... Hope she keeps runnin for ya

  • @Tleffew1 They would of still worked on it for ya and in fact some of them will put it on for u. It is cheaper than buying an cooler and u dont have to worry about it anymore.

  • update on my truck...ran great for a while..then more problems..just recently had the egr cooler and the oil cooler replaced....also had to have the turbo cleaned out , a ring in the turbo replaced and some sensor assembly replaced due to my truck not going...lol..yeah.. had to have it towed to the dealership...1700 for those repairs.. symptoms: lots of white AND black smoke. started out being when I would take off only..then... began to buck and jerk while traveling anywhere from

  • sounds like your ficm is on it's way out. You NEED to make sure you run a good synthetic oil(rotella) and get some rev-x oil additive and your injectors will live a long happy life. 6.0 injectors are picking injectors and they love fresh oil

  • Your truck has bad injectors, and possibly a High pressure oil leak at the STC fitting on the HPOP. FWIW I used to start my 6.0 when it was -15 F outside, and it always started without much of a miss. Then again, I work on these all the time so I know when mine had bad injectors. Also, when it gets cold, I would recommend running Rotella 5w-40 synthetic. It aids tremendously in cold start situations.

  • @PWRSTR0KER2008

Thanks man.. It was the injectors...guess what.... been a few months and now i have more bad injectors! yay......I love paying thousands for them..

  • @Tleffew1 Sorry to hear about you having other bad injectors. Unfortunately on a 6.0, that's the nature of the beast. Once you lose an Injector, the others typically aren'r far behind. The other thing that fails on these engines, are the HPOP's (High pressure oil pump). They go bad internally over time, but on 2005 MY trucks especially, they fail right at the STC fitting. To get to it, you have to take the top end of the motor apart. Intake, turbo, Oil/ FF reservoirs, EGR cooler, etc..

  • @Tleffew1 If you have a leak at the HPOP, your truck will be hard to start warm. Over time, it won't want to start at all. It will appear that the HPOP is failing, but it is probably leaking HP oil at this fitting, or on the rails themselves. I know you don't have this issue, but I just recommend that if you ever have to tear the engine down to replace the fitting, change the pump while you're in there! Especially if you have over 120k miles. Check the IPR screen for metal next injector change.

  • @PWRSTR0KER2008 WHere is the IPR screen located?!!

  • @Tleffew1 u shouldve changed them all at once, also try using rev-x oil additive, helps a lot and some diesel kleen to prevent fuel gelling and finally, plug that bish up in cold weather!

  • @PWRSTR0KER2008 ..definitely putting the rotella 5w-40 in on next oil change now that it is about to be cool again..Thanks!

  • This is what my 6.0 sounds like after being left outside all night not being plugged in. Recommend a heater cord. I think this just might be normal.

  • @znofxz > Thanks for the comment. Ford quoted me right at $200 to have the cord installed. I think I will have it installed when winter comes around again. I am in georgia, so I dont have to worry about too mamy cold nights again until then!

  • @Tleffew1 O wow I didn't realize this was georgia. It wasn't that cold was it? If it runs great at operating temperature than i would say that you are fine. I mean believe it or not and despite what people say about the 6.0 they are good engines. Just take care of er (oil changes every 5K, fuel filters every 10K) and you will have good luck with it.

  • I have a 2003 6.0. It starts rough too. I've been getting a crank sensor problem code. Says it affects performance and range. It sure has. I need to replace it. Cheap part, just hard to get to.

  • The clunk when the transmission shifts may be your slip yoke telling you it needs some grease. Be sure and block all four wheels and put on the parking brake when removing the drive shaft...grease the part the part where the driveshaft goes into the transmission...

  • thanks! I have read that a few times.. I will check that out!

  • Well Tleffew1, i can assure you that sounds perfectly normal. you should hear my 2004 f250 6.0Leaker start up in -30 weather. The high idle speed is also normal. nice truck you got there. shouldve got the tow package option IMO though.

  • no offense, but I enjoyed the cranking. beautiful truck

  • lol..thanks!

  • LOL you're welcome.

  • I would get the latest flash from Ford to start off with. I hear it is pretty good. I would have it myself if I wouldn't lose all of my tunes.

  • i will post what i get done and how it does after wednesday. thanks!

  • I am having one injector and the latest flash done on the thing. $900!!!!!!aaaaargh!! better fix it..lol!!

  • That will fix it and you will also see some better fuel mileage.

  • it totally fixed it!!! next on the list... I have a bit of a clunk under my feet when i hit a bump and a slight clunk when I let off the throttle. also, an ever-so-slight clunk when tranny changes gears (I think) sometimes... I may be being too much of a stickler, but I want it to be juz right! any thoughts? someone said they changed the swaybar and rubber ends.....we'll see..have to save some money first

  • Disconnect the batteries for about 10 minutes and then see if the trans still makes that noise.

  • ok cool! Ill try that in the morning before work..thanks!

  • do u think the reflash changed the tranny/gear ratio or shifting intevals and the tranny is not used to it or something?

some other things I have read:

    clunking possibilities:

    tranny mount

    sway bar endlinks/bushings

    play in the u-joints

    .......also........

a series of clunks when making a sharp left turn...u every experienced that? should I grease some stuff up? change the ball joints? lol..

  • I would get the front end checked out.

The flash would not change the gear ratio or shifting intervals.
