Awesome. what is the name of your dvd? I'll buy it today. i just hope it comes with an in depth info on the different tools and machines and where to get them.
I heard that dropping the cast bullets into a bucket of water with a towel on the bottom is best due to the quick cooling making the bullets harder. True?
I just started casting a couple days ago. I cast 12ga Lee slugs from wheelweights. Does dropping the slugs in water raise the BHN or is it more of just a conveniance for handling? Thanks!
Try your local tire store. I get buckets of wheel weights for nothing. Pinting houses at times have a lot of Lynotype. Ask roofing companies for their scrap roffing lead, that lead is pure lead and is soft. It's good for making different alloys.
Awesome video ammosmith, Thank you for your efforts. A novice looking to cast bullets for the first time like me can really benefit from your series of videos. Please please please keep them coming! THANKS AGAIN!!! My limited research of the internet suggests a higher percentage of antimony for increased bullet hardness, how do you check the right percentage of your alloy? Cheers!
I never knew that the frosting was not bad, I've heard from like a dozen sources saying to recycle the bullets. Not that I don't believe you but if you could provide a source or two it would be appreciated.
I am using the Lee six cavity 9mm 124gr T/C mould in this video. Lee moulds are nice but are prone to being rather quirky. I had a mould that was problematic and it took Lee 3 times to get it right. Lee has good customer service, that's a big reason I use their products.

Another great video. Your DVD is great too, (we sell it and get good feedback), but still enjoy coming back to these original ones.

interesting video. you should improve your camera lighting as it is difficult to see sometimes.
thanks for the walkthrough. :)

This is an older video. We are using lights and a HD camera now. In fact we published our first DVD in September 2009.

Why don't you quench them in water you will get harder bullets.
swenner64 2 years ago
I do but we are saving the really good stuff for DVD's.

Could you share some of your knowledge about alloys, mixing and testing?
vbludov 2 years ago
I will. We are working feverishly on our first DVD right now. We are going to be doing a series and alloys will be part of it.

Yes! You must be careful NOT TO GET ANY WATER INTO THE MELT OR KA-BOOM!
I quench my Linotype bullets and they are about as hard as bronze. I can shoot my .44 mag through a telephone pole.

Yes it will harden it quite a bit. Adding tin plumbers solder by 5% and quenching will make it really hard.

How do these bullets compare to copper jacketed bullets? I am shooting .40 S&W and .223

Depending on the alloy they are better i handguns and you can't get the velocity in rifles but they are a lot cheaper.

Thanks, now do they have molds for HP bullets? Once again thanks for you help and videos.

Yes!

Say the lead I get from wheel weights needs a higher tin to lead ratio. Where would I get ingots of tin to raise the tin level?
gandb21 3 years ago
Plumbers solder. It's 99% tin. It's not the cheapest but it works great.
