Why? It's quite likely that his condition is caused by a minor cell mutation, making the kitten a mutant.

On a related note, I've been the owner of a mutant kitten, also. In this case, the nerves controlling his (hind) legs were fused. His spine eventually fused shut, rendering a good deal of his organs inert. He died of multiple internal organ failure... At just under two years of age. :(
