He is a smart man to use modern age tools, such as zbrush (Provided that this is not a marketing set up).
Only because of his openness towards new ways of creating art was he able to stay and prove himself as one of the best. This ability must stem from his sheer endless passion for this craftsmanship.
I bet he will get to see his 10th Academy Awards someday.

You can't "print" it out to real life obviously, but doing so would have no purpose anymore anyway as animation is now replacing real effects. (Sadly)
@Graylord88 actually you can print out models with rapid prototyping machines, a.k.a. 3D Printers, they've become very popular in the toy and collectible figure industry.
@Graylord88 of course 3D printing has a purpose! which is of course why they still have the option and why 3D printing is always getting better. can you not see the potential for making mock ups, prototypes, figurines etc? They even use the printed 3D models to make casts for molds so that everything from rubber masks to engines can be made from a modeling program like ZBrush, C4D, CAD etc.
@Graylord88 Quote: "You can't "print" it out to real life obviously, but doing so would have no purpose anymore anyway as animation is now replacing real effects. (Sadly)" Hmm, i think its quite obvious what you meant. Of course "ysg" agreed since his/her response was similar. I think you made a comment founded with no real knowledge and now you're doing your best to backpeddle. LOL It isn't working very well... oh by the way amazing is spelled with an N.
@bdragon254 Oh no, I made a typo. I must be an idiot because of it. But really, you missed my point. I was replying to someone who talked about "printing out" the 3d models and using them on the film set instead of normal animation inserted in later. However, the object obviously is still static, so it wont animate. I guess it could be useful to get the real lighting as a reference to the guy doing lighting on the special effects, so that he can blend in the animation better. Bah, I digress.
@bdragon254 All in all, What I meant was that most movie companies are replacing more and more of their set and props with 3D animation, rather going full circle and using it to create objects. Some of them has even replaced the actors with 3D in 90% of the scene, so you almost start wondering why they are not just voice acting. Sorry, I digress, again.
@bdragon254 Bah youtube, stop running out of space. Anyway, I've always been a guy who prefer animatronics, costumes and masks to do the job, it looks so much better in the end. But they are not doing it, they are relying on 3d in the these days, and even more so each day. It's not my choice, it's what they to. You may think "but it can be used for this and that" all you want, but I am talking about special effects in video entertainment, not practical uses otherwise.
Dude!!! I just checked the American Warewolf in London, and the effects and everything deffinately beats CGI work, I never saw the film but saw few pictures and how it was set, I bet it is more frightning to see a real tihng than just a CGI.:) gooo man go Rick Backer, I already own Zbrush and it is great I love it in every way, and hope it does love you all:) woot.
...Rick Baker is a LEGEND!!! I liked what he did in Ed Wood!!!! So has he substituted prosthetic makeup application with ZBrush?? Knowing Rick, he'll still use prosthetic a little LOL
If Rick Baker says get a computer program you should totally get it. Rick Baker is EPIC! Those of you who don't know who he is don't worry, you know his work I could bet money on that. He is a king of traditional visual effect. His transformation work on American Werewolf in London (1981) still hasn't been beat.
