Well, when his father (Fourth Hokage) sealed Naruto, he also imparted a piece of his mind/personality into Naruto. This allows him to speak with Naruto, in much the same way Naruto can talk to the Nine-tailed Fox. In fact, his dad saved Naruto from releasing the fox.

The only reason Gaaras Ka-chan died was because it was her life that was sacrafied to Shinegami.

Kushina probably died in childbirth due to the stress or prior injuries . I very well doubt she would have left Naruto, from how little we have learned she was fiery but a kind woman.
