Not really. You're right about the better singer part, but it's impossible to even compare this to the Chili Peppers. RHCP is more funk-rock, Violent Femmes are folk-punk. It's totally different.

@mussman717word Interesting, I never drew a comparison, not then and not now. RCHP had several phases, one of which was a funk flavored punk, but they've changed sounds (not a bad thing, I've liked all of their sounds) so much that they're hard to classify as anything as RHCP. VF, however never go to a point where they could drastically change their sound. I for one am glad they quit when they did, some of my best high school memories are attached to VF :)
