  • very nice layout you have man. you are very talented. oh, and sweet train too!

  • lol nice... but the REAL Acela averages about 35mph... sure it hits a top of 85mph at some points but its over all average between NYC and Boston is 35.... We(the USA) need to get our butts in gear! Great set though! :-)

  • @MachetePanda Your a bit wrong with your speeds, average is probably in the 100s, The top speed is 150 on a stretch of track in Rhode Island. With the latest monies given to Amtrak for the NEC, the 135MPH section in NJ will be upped to 160MPH to top out the acela at its full potential speed.

  • @NJTrainSET And my Dual Power car version with the whole trainset will be out of the shops this weekend, so expect a new, even higher speed video to be displayed.

  • @NJTrainSET maybe in NJ, but I ride it often, and trust me, it doesn't stay at high speeds long.

  • @MachetePanda if your riding it thru CT, it definatly doesnt. The entire Metro North portion it is only allowed 90, and no tilt enabled.

  • great video! where can I get the set and the little toys?

  • @mcrrocks80 A hobby shop, or me I have the acela cars and power cars for sale.

  • @mcrrocks80 Not toys. Models.

  • Dude you need to put a camera in that thing!

  • thats a nice train i got mine a couple years ago on my birthday By Bachman

  • Does your Acela have a decoder in it if so what type

  • Currently my Acela has a TCS DP2X installed. Soon it will be modified at Rys Industries DCC for full working ditch lights markers and headlights on both ends, using a TCS T4X in both powered cars.

  • No not downing your trains in any way fellow model railroader that you are , In my collection I also have a Florida Based trainset that is lite blue that me and the crew i run with has appily named "The Blue Plate Special" , If not that "The T.I.T.S. Express" Aka - Tracks In The Sand 2002 Convention Train , If people should ask what that train is doing in San Deigo I simply tell them It's visiting or On One hell of a detour !

  • No , I did not mean that comment in a harsh way , i simply meant it for a way of expressing my humor as to running any given train set in the era or time period that the layout was built upon . The crew that i run with If I make it down to the San Diego Museum on Tues likes to joke and laugh at me because i like to run modern amtrak ( acela too ) and metrolink trains in places some of my trains would never run in real life , cause the layout is circa 1947 thru 1963 , Amtrak started in 1971 !

  • Oh i know that. Trust me we have the same issues sometimes. Although our layout is the hole in the space time contiunum but thats another story. I run all kinds of wild things that either wouldnt exist on such terrain or wouldnt have been run together. Heck I have a Walt Disney train we run and NYC subway cars on the main!

  • @NJTrainSET Your trains, run them however you like, after all it is a little world we created, so what if you want to run a GG1 next to a Big Boy in the middle of the desert? do what you like!

as for the disney an NYC.... do a lash-up :D

  • Ok , Who ever you are that did this video , your acela looks good on that layout , I am the same way , HO Scale Train , HO Scale Tracks , Darn It Anyhow It Is Gonna Run Cause there are some people we get at the san Diego museum who absolutly get a kick out of seeing the high speed acela crossing the carriso gorge , what a barrel of laughs its sssoooo wrong , but it looks good , strange but good !

  • You think this is grea, go watch my Florida Tri Rail train going thru the tunnels and mountains! They really get a kick out of that but I have to be the only one out there with one as nice as mine!!!

  • Pans down, drawing power from "third" rail. ;>)

  • you have to add power lines over head makes it look better !!/

  • That is such an outstanding layout! And you can see the tilt of the cars on those gentle curves. Nicely done!

  • :D and ice 3 train =(

  • Wow! It's very fast!

  • the train is fast but I dont understand why it takes the same time to get u from new york to boston as if you'r driving a car [ between 3:50 HRS to 4:30 HRS ]??!!

  • it doesnt its more like 3:00 and from boston it takes almost 6 hrs. well a little longer

  • i think what your trying to say is providence to new york is 4hrs by car/regional train, and 3 hrs by Acela express is not really much of a difference at double the price and technology for Acela express. Ive always said that. To me it would be something if they could get Providence to new york i n two hours.

  • no I meant driving, cuz I drive down there all the time or I take the bus and it takes about 4 HRZ and I once took the acela from new york 2 boston and it got there @ about the same time!!!!, so would u rather pay$15 for the bus or $79 for the train???

  • thats what i said/meant. prov to new york is 4 hours by car/train/Bonanza, 3 hrs by acela. car is about $20, Bonanza is $15, Regional is $54, Acela is $100. i was speaking in relative time without the costs. unless i misunderstood you again, but we mean the same.

  • Thats awsome. I want a nice layout like that.

  • sweeet!

  • Make A Pantograph Cable :)

  • Are you going to build catenary for it? I haven't seen many models that use catenary (or at least have a facsimile catenary and pentagraph).

  • No, unfortunatlly I dont have the option to build cat on my club layout, so imagination will have to suffice.

  • where did you buy such beutiful material, can you tell me plz

  • Couldnt tell you. The layout scenery work at my club is done by our scenery gang.

  • Very nice scenery is this on your club layout if it is I wish our scenery was that nice it is just whatever people feel like putting on

  • You have a beautiful layout for this train, and your video provided me with the inspiration to pick up an Acela set too (albeit in N scale!). Awesome work!

  • wow. wuts average scale mph?

  • I think the train speed on this scale was a little more than running speed.

  • I used to have this set a couple years ago. But the wiring was faulty, and i didn't know how they wired it, so i had to send it back to the store. Your layout and Acela are really nice!

  • c'mon man, we wanna see 150!

  • i used to have this set wheni was 8. i am 12 now

  • Very cool layout. Must be the new diesel-electric Acela set :)

  • Hhaha, yes its the experimental dual mode model takes you from NY to orlando in 10 hours!

  • somebody should post a video about the new acela in O Scale, I really dont like ho scale it to small for me.

  • I like the small one because I can afford it, and it does look really nice. The O scale one is great, but the idea of the 3rd center rail makes it look tacky IMO. Im not going to spend 2k on a beautiful train like that to run it on Lionel toy train track.

  • o so thats why people buy these ho scale trains, because there cheap.

  • Well you can always run 2 track with live catenary.

  • What do you think about buying 3 more business class cars and making it a full train?

  • I've got an HO set as well- started with the same one you've got. I've since added the rest of the cars and swapped a friend's power unit into my dummy's shell, and now I've got a full 8-car Acela Express trainset... you should seriously consider expanding your cars, the resulting train is SO sleek and nice... it's well worth it.

Did you say hand laid track? I'm impressed!

  • At this current point, well as of the begining of Dec, the train is a complete Acela Express. I have no desire currently to upgrade to the second power car as the single has plenty to move the whole thing at the permissable speeds of the model railroad I run on. BTW running at high speeds, keep track of your wheel guage. Mine in 2 months ended up going in on me some.

  • hate to have a derailment at that speed

specially with all that nice scenery

  • It runs around the entire layout at that speed plenty of times with no derailments 'crosses fingers' I guess all that hand laid track is done to prefection.

  • yup it does help.

my layout is mostly flex track with few joints, however i usually cringe when im running one of my big steamers/long passenger trains at high speed over the turnouts

how much did you pay for that set?

  • $100 on ebay. The jerk didn't know a thing about trains and shipped it in its box alone so there was some damage on the power car and a few passengers. I fixed it all up myself. Wheels were so dirty when I got it too it hardly ran!

  • thats not expensive for a set like that

    i love ebay haha

are both locomotives powered or just the first one?

  • just one but it runs great full speed with either power car in the forward direction. These are also DCC, and the unpoowered one can easily be made into a powered one by adding a motor and gears to the trucks as the parts are all the same and the DCC ready light board is already installed.

  • Does the HO version tilt?

  • Yes, the HO verson does tilt just like the real thing.
