  • my mates only just put me on to this band. I have to say they are cool as fuck.

  • LOL I just spent ages trying to find this song by searching "pineapple tree".

  • @Jinmane And Porcupine Thief?

  • I hope I hear this song when I die. Then I would go peacefully.

  • My sister love porcupine tree.. This is what I feel " I won't feel better in the cold light of day, But I wouldn't stop you if you wanted to stay"

  • Exquisite, simply beautiful

  • Chills up and down my entire back and neck. Every. Single. Time.

  • its very warming this song is

  • Steven Wilson is a master poet. When he belts it the last 90 seconds, he rips out both of our hearts. This is such a hauntingly, beautiful piece.

  • Words cannot describe the magnificence of this song.

  • Is it any wonder In Absentia is their best-selling album?

  • @uchihaitachi888 It's "one of the wonders of the world" :)

  • amazing

  • ok put this song on and try putting your mind to something that you cant normally do. it motivates you like no other! xD

  • the only song that i have not said a word after for about 2 hours.

  • This song is one of the most beautiful, there are incredible things in my head when I listen to it.

  • Best PT song

  • i love porcupine tree

  • I used to cry whenever I heard this song which is very odd for me. Im not a big crier.

  • @trekkie1fan wah

  • i have never listened to an album that finishes as well as in absentia... strip the soul followed by this... brilliant

  • it makes me wanna cry..it's to..oh i have no words..♥

  • @yellowcluster I think you misundertood because I misexplained either... I didn't say I don't like the music because I do and It's one of my favourites of them. BUT It could be stronger as an interlude and not an epilogue and IT'S MY OPINION as a fan. For you is the best closer and it's YOUR OPINION so let's just repect eachother opinions, ok?

  • Great! There are no other words to discribe this song.

  • Amazing ! need i say more!

  • The most wonderful thing just happened to me. I was out on my balcony smoking a joint after getting home form work, when the wind picked up and blew all the seeds from the fireweed (think little wisps of cotton) and blew them upwards in a perfect spiral before sending them all drifting melancholic-ly past me. Sometimes I forget why I'm alive, and sometimes I remember :)

  • best song ever

  • Look up "while the city sleeps-back when we knew", similar soundscapes and big crescendos.

  • I feel like Peter Griffin listening to My Morning Jacket

  • It's a breathtaking song for sure... But not to close an album!

  • Holy shit. I got the chills.

  • This is such a deep dark album. It's almost depressing

  • sorry about my english first of all,can some1 explain in simple words what thins songs means?i couldn't find the translation in my language, thank you

  • <3

  • Gorgeous song

  • any other kinda songs like this out there?

  • a little simpler but, The Eels - Fresh Feeling. Or Sufjan Stevens - Chicago.

  • 3 people need their skulls collapsed into earth.

  • @jamesannucci lmfaooo

  • There can be nothing better than such a relaxing song..

    Porcupine Tree is immortal.

  • If you don't get goosebumps when you hear this song, you don't have a pulse.

  • Absolutamente preciosa...

  • 3 people dont like this song, WTF???

  • Joint favourite PT song alongside Half-Light

  • I'm so baked right now and this song is amazing.

  • amazing song :O

  • this is amazing.. just fucking amazing

  • I love piano music and this one is a good song.

  • i love how porcupine tree is so chill and can jump to the opposite end of the spectrum and be completely hardcore at the same time.

  • @hailey1177 word... like in Arriving Somewhere But Not Here, there's a hard part and then absolute and quiet bliss.. (:

  • Holy crap this song stirred emotions in me I thought not possible...yet again PT has influenced my soul with the savory beauty I have come to expect from them....thanks for the post.

  • It's ok, bit dull though. I prefer their more energetic songs, this is a bit too monotonous for me. Plus I've had my fill of depressing music after spending most of my life listening to it.

  • i came home from work and my wife was upset and told me my 25 yr old cousin just died. i sat down and heard this song playing and it made sence. he's singing about letting someone go.

  • 4:59 beautiful

  • My fave song by them =]

  • An orgasm in musical form

  • @Nauticus89 we call it an eargasm

  • Comment removed

  • Some people don,t like this ,can you beliefe that.

  • @Bverygood1 NO. I cannot believe that. like WTF.

  • @Bverygood1 more than the half of this world are stuck up, they think they are better than us because they listen to rap and pop. They think listening to music about guns and murder, about being whores and sluts is better than PP, tool, Opeth, ect. and the other half are justin beiber/miley cirus fans. we are that 1% that no one cares about. we are the ones who truely appreciate music.

  • @Opethfullcovers To bad i,am the only 1 in my family that like this kind of music.

I try to give my kids a good musical backround but i can,t force them to listen to real music .

I,m glad to have 2 brothers with almost the same taste in music so we go to concerts together.

Let,s try to tell people about this kind of music.

1% is not enough let,s make it 2

  • @Opethfullcovers Don't say that the people who listen this type of music are the only people that appreciate music. That is simply an ignorant statement. There is actually a large amount of hip-hop and rap that means so much more than just guns, murder, and sluts that you could never be able to appreciate because of your close mindedness. Don't dis a genre of music because the mainstream version of it sucks. That's like comparing PT to the Jonas Brothers.

  • @quigequige it's funny because i've been saying the same thing to you people for a long time. Before you speak to me again learn proper english. Hip-hop is not the same thing as Rap, I hate rap, but I like hip-hop, listen to "black moon - Gotch'a Open." that is REAL hip-hop. By the way, I wasn't refering to Rap as sluts, I was refering to pop when I said that. I will give you an example, Kesha - Teenage dream. I think that's the auther anyways. I have more of an open mind than you can imagine.

  • @Opethfullcovers Oh, the irony.

  • @Opethfullcovers They're essentially the same thing if you're categorizing. Don't think just because you like one song that it's suddenly more "real" than what any other artist can conceptualize; you're being extremely pretentious and elitist in that fashion. Just listen to the music and acknowledge that your mere opinion on it does not classify it as internationally good or bad. Concluding, your grammar and language are next to basic, so stop using that as a base for your argument.

  • @BriansFeyLoka can you give it up, I an honestly over it.

  • @BriansFeyLoka One more thing, calling my grammar basic is quite funny. Just remember, Google doesn't make you smarter than me. Good day troll.

  • Love it

  • This one and The Rest Will Flow are my two favorites. Amazing.

  • ...

  • wow

  • Music doesnt get better than this. If you dont like this song ... I feel very sorry for you,

  • great music !

  • To imagine, as something as simple as a joke, could stem into such an influential band.

Makes you think a lot is possible on this small inconspicuous rock of ours.

  • This song is one of the few that brings a tear to my eye.

  • I can barely write this comment, this song is so serene, beautiful in its simplicity. everything is perfect. Now I'm off to sleep, I can't really help it...

  • Fuck, how I love this song :3

  • In absentia is a fucking masterpiece, one of the most beautiful songs that ive ever heard.

  • wot a text ....

  • I just found this band through explosions in the sky and they are absolutely breath-taking. When the song is said and done, it leaves me speechless.

Im glad I found this band.

  • @onelastkissx5 This band should be known throughout the world

I feel that if the world knew of them, they would blow away any mainstream cookie cutter band and probably why they are blackballed by the industry. Steven Wilson will let NO record company produce or engineer his music. He does this all himself and is one main reason his music does not get airplay

  • @howdyfeller oh yeah for sure. But, damn. I didn't know all that. Not letting any record company produce his music just made me like him/them even more.

  • @onelastkissx5 Steven has his own production studio where he oversees all editing and mixing. Even the DVD's PT has put out are all engineered by Steven and those very close to him. Look up some of his interviews, he is very vocal about his view of mainstream. You should see the band live, they will blow your mind

  • @howdyfeller yeah, that's impressive. i hope ill get to someday too....

  • @onelastkissx5 funny you mention EitS, Your Hand in Mine and this are the only song to bring me down to tears

  • This is a very nice song

  • This song = pain when it hits as close to home as it does. Beautiful song and I love it, but I look forward to the day when I can sit and listen to the whole thing with a dry eye. Anyone who has ever been through what this song describes knows what I mean.

  • I can't believe that up until a couple of months ago i had never heard of this band!

They are like a beautiful hidden treasure.....

  • I wish I could hold everyones hands and just listen to this song.

  • Porcupine Tree....thank you for your existence....!

  • I can't imagine how awesome it must have been to write this song.

  • This never fails to raise the hairs on the back of my neck,

    and give me goosbumps.

    Pure emotion, I love it

  • @ myegglsboiled....

Except your words....they speak the truth. I get chills when I listen to this song. Deeply touching. I LOVE PORCUPINE TREE

  • This song is in 3/10, right?

  • @musli4brekkies It's actually in 6/8. It's just that it's a 5 bar pattern instead of the conventional 4 bar pattern.

PS: 3/10 doesn't exist. There are no 10th notes. There's quarter notes 8th notes, 16 notes, 32nd notes and so on but there's no note that equals a tenth of a bar.

  • @LMA0NAISE

I was tired last night. I meant 3/8. Seems that was wrong anyway. Durr.

  • One of the most beautiful songs ever written.

  • My grandfather died last christmas, I loved him like the father I never had. It was really hard for me to accept that he was gone forever.

I can't avoid crying everytime I listen to this song, because it brings me back beautiful childhood memories and reminds me how much I used to love my dear grandpa.

Thank you so much Steven Wilson.

  • I have always loved that if you listen close enough during the fading end, you can hear Steven's foot (probably bare) releasing the piano's sustain pedal. How is that for raw emotion?

  • @willveda the pedal's sound is part of the f***ing damn awesomeness of this beautiful masterpiece

  • When i hear the first note of this song a part of me dies and gets reborn.

  • Imagine this live in an enormous venue. The crowd would be stunned into silence and it would be magical.

    I would probably jizz everywhere...

  • T_T

  • more people need to hear this

  • Is it strange this song doesn't seem sad to me? It seems like hope. It's like the break down of everything at present to make room for better things. Either way it's an amazing song :) gotta love PT for making amazing songs all the time!

  • I just lost my brother due to a brain tumour. This song is so fitting to remember him with. Thank you so much Steven Wilson

  • @sw15god Sorry to hear that man. Music is such a strong relief at times. Take it easy bud.

  • @sw15god so sorry for that.. he will live forever in your heart.. music is such a great help in times like that. Rest in Peace from germany, live like your brother would do it man.

  • This is probably the deepest and most touching song I've ever heard. Although I'm atheist it inspires me some kind of religious feelings. Thanks PT

  • amazing.

  • this song touches me so much right now...

  • Sends shivers up my spine, beautiful track.

  • this song brings us beyond enlightenment...beyond bliss......beyond eternal happiness...........i brings us into the center of gods heart.

  • @JaskaJunior calm down.

  • Gorgeous sad song! PT are absolutely FANTASTIC!!!!!!!!!!

  • amazing song..

  • Agree with MyEgglsBoiled

  • @arenasification You obviously dont understand music, then.

  • @JackJamesArcher Obviously :)

  • this song is why i got into music. to move people. one of the finest songs ive ever heard

  • There's not much you can say about this song except.....WOW AMAZING

  • I cried the first time I heard this song. Now I hear it, I cry again. AndI know I'll cry till the day I die. I can't help it.

  • No word(s) can describe the feeling this song induces. All comments are useless. This song=Bliss.

  • @MyEggIsBoiled if no word can describe it, then why did you say that the song is bliss? i don't mean to be a jerk, just noticing a discrepancy in your comment. i agree completely with the first sentence.

  • @TheYtml You're absolutely correct.. what the hell was I thinking? I don't feel I deserve all those thumbs up with such a flaw in my logic haha.

  • @MyEggIsBoiled oh i don't care really, i just wanted to point it out

  • @MyEggIsBoiled I stand by my comment. I was drunk then and I am now, and it never fails. Life will change, but this song never will.

  • Fucking beautiful

  • Pistoia blues 2010

  • Fantastic song.
