How would you add the smoke at a certain point in the middle? I'm trying to create the effect of a candle blowing out and smoke following- I'm going to first have to figure out how to show the flame die, and then the smoke showing a few seconds in.
If you change the direction of the smoke to 180 and then change the rotation of the black image layer to 180 your smoke will only rise upwards making it look more realistic.

Thank you, this was very helpfull. But is it possible to slow down the smoke, if you understand what I mean. The smoke isn't moving in a realistic speed.
I just starting messing around with After Effects and this was great. The only thing I could add is drop the "gravity" setting down to keep the smoke from pouring back down. Great vid!
Really helpful, i've got my smoke looking neat! However, I want it to sort of float across the floor in my clip, is there anyway to may it flow sidewards instead of upwards? Thanks :)
yes there certainly is; if you have the particle playground effect go to cannon and then to direction, then put th degree up to like 45 if u want it straight forward or whatever u want=)and then u can make a mask and set the wall boundary to Mask so that it stays in one place. Hope i helped
Thx

@claire0rockz
you can keyframe the opacity levels on your smoke layer, so you can fade it in and out when and how fast you like.

Thank You! This started me off with more configuration myself...
To other learners: Do try changing the Gravity Force to a lower number to create more realistic effect. The smoke shouldn't look like it's heavy. =D
Cheers.
