@plap111 - I hope you're joking, cuz if you're not, you are a fucking retard and have no concept of talent. Keith Urban has been hailed by and shared the stage multiple times with TOMMY EMMANUEL, one of, if not the best, natural guitarist of all time. Clapton said Tommy was the best he'd ever seen. You are obviously ignorant to music.......
@JHKFENDER86 My Dad sucks my dick and nibbles the tip of my penis whilst running his fingers down the shaft of my penis and then when I cum he spits the cum into his hand and shoves it deep into his anus and then squeezes it out with some shit and then gargles before swallowing the shitty cum and Keith Urban is good.
@pooisgood123 You have problems man. All I'm gonna say at this piont. How you went to there from my comment is beyond me. Seek help, and while you're at, learn something about music. Good luck with your daddy issues...........
abel1187 is talking about how Keith is good on the guitar, when he's playing with John Butler. John Butler is simply on a different level, he's the most talented guitarist I've ever witnessed. Keith is great, but he couldn't do an n'th of the stuff with a guitar that John Butler does.
@TGrabs22 - I agree, I have been around and/or working with professional musicians almost 50 years in every Genre, John Butler is Par Excellence bar none. The ability to play harmonics, finger pick a 12 string and tap a rhythm on a guitar all at the same time is no easy feat by any stretch of the imagination. The only person I would even come close to comparing as far as performance technique is the Classical Maestro the late Andre Segovia.
And lets not forget that John is playing this all ona 12 string acoustic guitar. He rips harder on that than most people will ever on a 6 string electric
Urban is one of the best guitarists playing today. People need to look past the "pretty boy top 40" image that sold him to the masses and really listen to how well he plays.
@speeddemonryno dude i feel the exact same way. biggest pet peeve is when the crowd starts clapping-they get off tempo and its distracting and annoying-but the soloing at the end was insane
Why does Urban sit in w/ people like JB, Fogerty, Paisley, Emanuel and others, and then books acts like Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Sugarland to open his live shows????
I am not a fan of the country genre overall, but I love Keith as a guitarist and as a musician. I think those who reject a genre of music like country categorically and unequivicollay are just as ignorant and blind as those who will firmly fight to the death for everything in a genre like country...
So each side can just knock themselves out shouting their stupid biases, or you can just accept that KU is an amazing guitarist who rises above his genre both musically and lyrically.
KU is simply stellar on the guitar. He is a god. It's a shame that people can't see past their prejudice against the genre he happens to produce his mainstream records in.
And also, you can't even call Keith "country" in his guitar style (with the exception of his album "The Ranch". He is more on the rock side (very much Knopfler). Brad Paisley, an equally amazing guitarist, is true country. Very different sound.
@abel1187 Well put!!! "Country and Western" has come a long way from it's history. My parents brought me up on country, and I couldn't stand it. (aside from Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson) These days it's a fine line between rock/southern rock/roots rock... I wish people would just get off the pigeonholing and just accept music as being an extension of personal choice and appreciation!... This stuff isn't "Funk"... but it sure as hell is "funky"! :)
@abel118 I dont like country music.... KU is brilliant and anyone who cant see past the 'country music' tag is either ignorant or uninformed.... their loss. I do go to the Gympie Music muster every year (a country music festival) but they also have blues and other genre, I dont even mind 'some' of the country stuff, its always better when you see a live performance.
@xeric080 We could if they weren't similar. If you can't hear Knopfler in the melodic choices that Keith makes while soloing, you can just take his word for it. He often credits Knopfler as one of his biggest influences. I've heard them both in person, and Keith often goes as far as to demonstrate his proficiency in the MK fingerstyle picking. I'm not saying KU is anywhere near the legend MK is, but when I hear the outro solo for Til Summer Comes Around, I hear BIA and Telegraph Road.
@LOVEoverG0LD No one is saying that Keith Urban isn't good, or that he isn't proficient in Knopfler style playing. Just because Knopfler is one of his influences doesn't mean you should compare them to each other. I play a lot of Hendrix style licks myself but that doesn't mean people should start comparing me to Hendrix, does it? Keith Urban should be Keith Urban, simple as that.
hmmm...I've been a huge fan of KU and always branch out whenever he teams up with an artist(s) that I haven't heard of...I do like this band and plan on checking out. I think they both awesome.
As a hater of contemporary country and western, a seething, bitter critic of nicole kidman's and anything related to her, and a person indifferent and generally unimpressed by Keith Uban, he surprised the hell out of me that night
kanix, I wasnt judging you i was making a joke. Lighten up dawg. With regards to John Mayer all of his earlier stuff I like. I love his new stuff! He make teenybopper radio hits to get the money and fan base to do what he loves. Blues. I do like some stuff on the radio but most of it is shit. thankyou for agreeing with me on something. :-)
haha.. well first.. JB's vocals...??? joke.. nothing special at all. i mean, it sounds like an amateur singing. second, why is urban shadowed? its clear JB is more the feature because he's singing, but that makes him shadow urban? i think not. and btw, urban can eat this hippie alive playing..
Kanix, obviously you haven't seen much of the John Butler! As far as string players are concerned he pisses all over "Wang-Twang-Country-Ding-Dang" Keith Urban!! I suprised JB lowered his standards to perform with that overated pop star!
on the contrary... go watch some Urban videos.. if you think he's overrated as a guitarist then what that tells me is that you're biased against him because he's not some drugged out hippie who writes about smoking pot. You're probably one of those that hates mainstream music just because it's successful and 'mainstream' or because it's teeny bopper stuff.. blah blah.. Well if Keith Urban picked up an OPEN tuned 12-string he would get the same twangy sound JB gets and would be able to do
anything john butler can do and then some.... and then PLENTY actually. Seriously, you haven't even listened to Urban apparently because a lot of the stuff he does shouldnt even be considered country. HELL!! Your buddy John Butler even questions if Keith Urban is really country.. watch the interviews with those two together..
oh ya and I believe mainstream music does suck because it stifles almost all creativity and its all about making money. We have been fed so much garbage for so long we don't know what truth is anymore. I blame corporations for feeding us lies but it is our parents fault for not instilling in us the truth. "Now we just want want want. What can I get out of this; me me me" music isn't about money its about connection. It is a search for beauty that corpzilla has perverted into a cash cow.
now this is something i wILL agree on.. thank you for a valid argument at least for what you said. I totally agree that the populace has been taught to just turn on their radio and ACCEPT without question whatever is played. So if they play some rapper named chili cheese dog, who raps over circus music, which is what most of it sounds like, people just accept it as a hit. No one actually decides what they like and what is good, they are told and programmed for it.
but,i have to say,you CANT let yourself turn into one who only likes anything thats NOT popular.. because there is popular music that is very good. John Mayer is an example. Amazing artist, but again, ironically, many fans dont even understand what he truly does, it's over their heads. many fans are teeny bopper girls that dont even understand real music, hes just a 'heartthrob' in their minds. but dont be one who dismisses EVERYTHING that 'makes' it just for that, bcuz there is good in it.
Ohhhh Kanix spare me the laughter, please! Any hill-billy-mung-bean can write a country song! They're are all the same - "lose the love of your life - become a lone rider - booze yourself to the grave". It's fucking depressing! Speaking of drug abuse, wasn't it Urban who booked himself into re-hab??? Don't recall John Butler ever doing so!! What amazes me about you "Mainstream" fans is, you are always too scared to broaden your horizons! There is a world beyond the commercial media you know!
oddly enough.. im very out of the mainstream actually. i like a lot of bands that arent 'cool' enough for mainstream. nickel creek... tony rice, one of the best guitar players of all time. im sure you know him right because youre apparently mr. non-mainstream. cough* im very against the commericalized, overproduced junk.. But as I was trying to say to you, there is talent in that mix, but apparently you can't see that. And yes I know Urban had tons of drug problems, but did you catch what
Gee Kanix you've really got your knickers in a knot over this one haven't you! THREE POSTINGS! The thing is you don't know the first thing about me, but you feel you are qualified to judge me! This is so typical of people from your country! If you must know I don't even own a JBT album, I just respect him as a independant musician, who has got where he is off his own efforts - unlike some in the industry! Now bugger off back to the barn redneck, the moonshine's flowing and there's a lynch'en on!
again.. youre talking about how someone shouldnt judge YOU, yet you hypocritically judge me as a barn redneck who apparently drinks moonshine and lynches. your exaggerated stereotyping is exactly what you just complained about someone doing to you. HAHA unbelievable. actually, its not. its very believable that you just did that.
i even said? it was the fact that Urban doesn't right about it being drugged out to try and look like a 'badass'. That's all JB writes about. getting high, blah blah. Ok we get it, you're a freaking hippie who smokes pot. Yippey. But I'm sure you're probably entranced by these drug songs, because they're supposed to further ppl somehow or something right, cough cough, theyre supposed to be those songs that change the world and all. JB probably doesn't even write those songs anymore out of
True meaning... He probably sits down and writes a song 'i used to get high.. blah blah' because it's so cliche of him and his image, that he knows that's what his pot smoking fans expect. BTW, listen to every freaking one of Urbans songs and pleassse tell me how many Urban songs talk about 'boozing yourself'?? Urban doesn't write about drinking.. There again, weren't YOU the one JUST SAYING others need to open their minds? psh..

You cant say that one is better than the other because its all a matter of opinion. Music is subjective. Music it (thank god) in the eye of the beholder. You write songs about life experiences. So if you don't like hearing songs about people being "drugged up" dont listen to them. But dont get into a pissing match with someone on youtube cause your dog died. tata
