Kohei has an AA Silver (though honestly he didnt deserve it, he fell on PH, jumped up, sat down again to set his hands, then started swinging) and a team Silver. He will do some serious damage in London to be sure, but he had a great distance to go to match the others. Please dont take this as a criticism of you or Kohei. He is a great guy, a class gymnast, and as professional a gymnast as there has ever been.
@pommels2k I know the difference of importance between World & Olympic titles. That's why I was only focusing on the side Uchimura has been most succesful on. And I'm not arguing with you on whether he deserved his silver medal in Beijing or not. But ever since he caught my eye in 2008 I always knew this kid had a huge potetial for great things in this sport. I respect opinions that come from all sides. You know mine and now I know yours and I respect it. Cheers.
there are many things to consider beyond the difficulty and judging, which is universally bad across all eras internationally. The equipment they used would be unrecognizable to todays gymnasts. There was no spring floor at all until 1980. World Championships are great, but the measuring stick for gymnastics has always been the Olympic Games.
When it comes to best ever, there is no right answer, but these guys are not to be forgotten so easily. They were dominant over 12 year periods. They were also all class acts, and Andrianov in particular was as generous and kind as anyone you would ever meet.
@pommels2k I haven't forgotten about them. All of those names I know, although some of them have never been my favorites. But those were gymnasts from a different era, comparing the difficulty they had back then & the judging system they used it's quite unfair. Thanks to the new CoP there are more injuries than legends being produced in gymnastics. So, Uchimura's achievements regarding World Championships are actually quite refreshing to see, I thought only Soviet gymnasts could do that. PART 1
@pommels2k And you're right, when it comes to best ever, there really is no right answer. But still, there has never been a gymast who has claimed 3 consecutive AA World titles.THAT alone deserves a standing ovation. The Soviets and the rest of the gymnasts in that era had the perfect 10. We have...the good enough 15.5... :/
So, I'm really thankful for gymnasts like Kohei, who still give it their best with this ever changing judging system, that's all. So, I decided to make a montage out of that.
Nicolai Andrianov another 3 time Olympian, who won gold medals in all 3. He won the AA in 76, was 2nd in 80. 7 Gold medals, 15 overall medals. He was also an architect of the "Golden Era" of the Soviet program that produced Scherbo. Still 2nd to Kato in my mind.
Boris Shaklin another 3 time Olympian that won Gold medals in each. His 7 Gold and 13 overall medals was at the time the most ever won.
He is truly great, but for greatest of all time he may have to overcome some names you are not considering. Scherbo too was great, but he did not surpass some of these achievements:
Sawao Kato 2 AA Olympic Gold and 1 Silver, 3 team Golds, 8 Gold medals, 12 overall medals. For my money the best ever.
@BeatySword He has won 3 all-around titles in this quadrenium with... well, the word "dominant" is such an understatement for what Uchimura has achieved but it's the only word that comes to mind right now sooo, with dominant performances(that are both difficult & artistic) on all apparatuses. Name another gymnast who has done that or that has surpassed what Kohei did in this quad & then I guess I'll have to work on another montage.
I have to agree, this guy definitely deserved a lot more spotlight than Wieber or Komova, it's a shame people hardly watch men's gym compared to women's! He's so good he had completely different and more difficult routines for some of the event finals than the team or all-around while we see just the same routines from everyone else from both genders the whole competition!
@ChainChomp2 A-G-R-E-E-D!!! Mate, you're preaching! Ever since I watched Uchimura in Beijing, I've been more and more interested in men's gymnastics (no that I hadn't before) and this current quad has made me have a change of heart! NOW I LOVE MEN'S GYMNASTICS MORE THAN I'M LOVING THE WOMEN'S COMPETITIONS!! All thanks to Kohei! :o)
I was practically jumping off of my couch as I watched the men's vault finals!!! And seriously, who doesn't like a good high bar final or FX final?!?!?! xx
thanks for your reply, I googled "Luminous Revolution" and found this site called preachingtoday that contains the same music embedded on to some video. Doesn't say who made/performed it either, maybe it's just a promotional stuff made by some anonymous soul.
@AWfan52525 Wow, you've figured out more about this track in a few days than I have ever since I discovered I had it taking up space on my computer, and that was like 3 months ago!
@AnibalGymNastics Everybody is entitled to their own opinion, I get that. And I'm all up for it!! What I don't get is this. Why on earth would you even bother to watch this video?? Given the fact that you clearly have a diffenrent opinion... And FYI, I'm strictly talking about AA World titles. AA tittles that Scherbo didn't win on 3 consecutive years, did he now? I think you would have caught up on that had you read the description box more carefully.
@AWfan52525 funny story, I stumbled upon this track while deleting a bunch of crap I had on my lap,it only had the name of the song, which is, Luminous Revolution. Howercer, the name of the band is still unknown to me. Sorry, for not being able to provide a lot of info. But I'm happy you enjoyed it! Thanks for watching!

Vitaly scherbo (1988-1996) and Kohei uchimura (2008-???) the best in male gymnastics
