@TheBassAngler1 It SHOULD NOT happen, but regrettably it does. This is a violation of any field's minimum engagement distance, but it happens. Most documented eye injuries occured at short range (Kratz A - Am J Ophthalmol - 01-JAN-2010; 149(1): 37-44). One incident occured within 4 feet at a Fort Ord game. It is documented in NAM magazine, issue 11. Using gear that can take a close hit is the way to prevent the most common serious eye injuries.
@TheBassAngler1 Its the way it is. You don't test for safety under ideal conditions, you test for safety under extreme conditions. This way, if you know it can take the punishment up close, you can TRUST it under ideal circumstances. This is how safety is tested man.
And, if you think it doesn't happen up close? get out of the back yard and come to some regulated fields. minimum engagement distances are largely unenforceable in the moment. Things happen and all you can do is say "oops!"
hi i was wondering if there are any goggles or full face masks that i can use with glasses. i was wondering if mesh masks are good for glasses or anything else i can use. if you could recommend any type of mask i would be very grateful. thank you :)
@FEDPablo My highest recommendation is to get frames for your glasses that fit closely to your face. This will allow the most compatibility with tactical goggles. You may want to try the Hakkotsu X-eye goggle. It is very large inside. The other approach is to get prescription inserts with a goggle like Revision Military's Desert Locust.
I have been wanting to test that mask since I first saw it almost a year ago. I have not received an answer from JT. I think they would benefit from allowing us to test it. It looks like it could be the most affordable full-face mask, but I would have to do my own test before endorsing it.
Why were the JT's picked at all? All of them minus the flex 8 is entry level crap and the flex 8 was designed to be rubber and bounce paintballs, not stop small tiny projectiles. Empire events, Invert Helix and Avatar can perform so much better for airsoft applications with their harder plastic and much smaller vent holes.
what is a face mask you reccomend that you reccomend and is under 100 dollors and it covers the ears, neck, and back of head, and will not let bbs into your face through vents
try our milsin! it has no limit.. you can shot 500+ fps at point blank range.. the only rules is, u can not touch you opponent or grab them.. if you can not take the pain, raise your gun, step back, its up 2 you f u run or re-engage.. miss thus days!!

Erm May i ask,If i'm behind that mask with the elite protection and if the bb goes thru the down end of the face protection and hits me under my nose, how much damage will it cost??if the gun is shot from pointblank range with 500fps i mean..and will it have the posibility that it will bounce and hit me in the eye???
I am concerned about the possiblitity of bb's passing between the side of the nose and the seal of the goggles to enter the eye space. This has happened at my local field. I have not yet heard of an eye injury occuring when this happens, but it could. ESS makes a clip that covers this vulnerable area on their airsoft goggles.
i wish my single shot beretta cann do that damage, i live in mexico, and here does guns cant be sold, i want to go study in us just ot be able to get one of thoes, actually i went to dallas and i bought my berreta there, cause here the only bb guns thar are sold are crapy and transparent... the bbs cant get though a single paper sheet...

There is a mesh mask from extremeairsoft online store (may have been a response to this video haha. Seems like this mask would do the job, possibly even point blank against 500fps shots. X Factor V1 Strike Steel Half Face
I have a full-face King Arms neoprene mask - It's suffocatingly warm when used during summer times (I have, fortunately, not tested that yet, but it's just above bearable in the biting winter of Sweden) but since it has no holes and is made of neoprene - It should protect you well... Note the "should", I haven't been hit in the face while wearing it yet
This is the reason why I wear a bandana around my face and a mouth guard even tho I use a full facemask even if it is a worst case scenario it still can happen and Id rather be safe than sorry
This test does not replicate normal conditions, nor was it intended to. It is intended to reproduce the worst accident imaginable on a US field with a sniper limit over 500 fps when an unsuspecting player comes around the corner of a building right when someone against the building wall is firing into the distance. It has happened more than once in California. Check NAM magazine issue 11.
@TheKmk4420 a lot of the uk outdoor sites have 500fps single shot snipers. so your statement isn't correct. As for full auto I have seen some very hot guns out there so with the popularity of no limit games I am honestly not suprised a high fps was chosen for testing.
@Distance9240 Atleast in our airsoft games, there is a rule that if your gun shoot over 2joule you must be atleast 20m away. And most guns that shoots over 2joule are snipers, in Finland all fully automatic guns must be under 1.6 joule. And my Bolle safety glasses can hold much as 3joule
Most UK sites are 350fps limit. I've got the JT flex 8 for CQB games. Never had any bbs through the grill. Also talking physics...If your guns shoots at 350fps the max range is about 50 to 60 meters. At 30 meters a .20bb has already lost half the initial velocity. At 40 meters a bb is traveling at less than 100fps. So for woodland games I wear bolle X800 and a gum shield as bb's will chip exposed teeth!!
@auburnmedicalgroup still, these masks are safe too, but you're shooting them too close. If you have ever played airsoft, you would understand me. In airsoft you won't shoot others in the head 10cm away.
@drablos123 hat may be the case in YOUR area but don't be ignorant to the fact that people play CQB or MOUT sites where someone may turn a corner and get shot, just cause you obviously don't care about your eye safety doesn't mean everyone else shoudln't take into consideration close combat happens even if your not at one of the many CQB centers you don't realize exist
@auburnmedicalgroup ill try within the next few days i already had a root canal done 3/4 of my tooth is gone if i dont put a video up ill try to put the link to my fields photobucket page they said they were going to put it on there in the mean time PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE tell people not to use vforce grilz for airsoft use
if u guys know about ESS goggles they are given to the military....... and they can survive a shotgun blast from 35 feet away...... i got mine for $15 surplus at my local army navy store...... but if your going to go with any goggles go with ESS..... they are the best.
here is my 2 cent shooting someone at point blank range at the field i play is a good way to get kick off the player should be mindful and careful were they point their aeg at
Yes. Minimum engagment distances should always be observed both on and off the field. Blind firing should not occur. Magazines should be out and guns should be on safety when not on the field. Testing of safety products should be conducted as if none of the above rules were followed.
@auburnmedicalgroup I agree MID's for the field i play at 300-below 5 feet no point black shooting 300-350 15 feet 350-400 50 feet 400-450 100 feet when we leave the playing zone mags out, chamber cleared, barrel condoms on
Bitter End has provided a sample of their lower face mask for testing. I was pleased with its performance for dental protection. It allowed bb fragments to pass through, though. Its inability to prevent bb fragments would be unacceptable for eye protection where the eyes are much more vulnerable than teeth.
I can't comment specifically on that combination because we haven't tested combinations. I would love to try out a neoprene mask, but no one has sent one in for testing yet. There is always the option of the Hakkotsu Iron Face mask or the Bitter End lower face mask for lower mid-face protection.
I've used the JT series and know that they are some of the best. But man... that sucks. Looks like the best option for full face protection in airsoft is the Hakkotsu face mask and FlakJak's.
The JT masks tested in this video provided eye protection, but they allow bb's to pass through the lower face portion. There may be other paintball masks providing better protection, but I have not tested them yet.
Hey there love what you are doing and I would like to see what you think of the Empire Vents Cylus paintball mask. Been playing airsoft for a long time now and it's far and away the best mask I've found for airsoft if you desire mouth protection, though there is one tiny spot right in the middle that a bb can get though, I can say after hundreds of games I've never had one get through. If you do some shopping around you can find them for under $40 with shipping.
I appreciate that you have had good use of the Empire Vents Cylus. I will not be testing any more masks with holes large enough to pass a bb. I base my recommendations on that one in one-thousand shot that could get through and cost thousands of dollars in dental bills and inconvenience. Given the number of people who watch these videos, I have to keep the highest standard in what I recommend. I am concerned with protecting the ONE person who could get injured from using a particular mask.
I am not able to find a JT Predator to test. It would not be expected to provide any better protection than the Carnivore or Flex 8 if it has face openings which are not any smaller than those maasks.
Those masks are originally designed for paintball, which is why the gaps are so big because the paintball woun't go through, it will just shatter and paint will go through but it allows for good ventallation
We shot video of testing a wire mesh mask and a pair of safety glasses. I will be posting these videos as future installments of Dr. Airsoft, Practical Testing.
i actually tested that myself and i concluded that after a number of shots, the wire mesh will eventually break. i used an airsoft gun that shot 415 fps w/ .20g bbs. not only that, some of the bbs shattered and went through the wire mesh ones.
So i guess my $20 paintball mask that says "do not use with paintballs over 300fps" is not the best to be used in airsoft?

if u guys know about ESS goggles they are given to the military....... and they can survive a shotgun blast from 35 feet away...... i got mine for $15 surplus at my local army navy store...... but if your going to go with any goggles go with ESS..... they are the best.

here is my 2 cent shooting someone at point blank range at the field i play is a good way to get kick off the player should be mindful and careful were they point their aeg at

@kingd3001
Yes. Minimum engagment distances should always be observed both on and off the field. Blind firing should not occur. Magazines should be out and guns should be on safety when not on the field. Testing of safety products should be conducted as if none of the above rules were followed.

@auburnmedicalgroup I agree MID's for the field i play at 300-below 5 feet no point black shooting 300-350 15 feet 350-400 50 feet 400-450 100 feet when we leave the playing zone mags out, chamber cleared, barrel condoms on

how about wearing a neoprene mask under a full face mask and goggles? good vid though.
flipdog69xxx 1 year ago
Oh right, I forgot to say something.
are you guys gonna test the BitterEnd airsoft goggles? I'm sure you've been asked/answered this question a thousand times, so sorry in advance :P
CharlieJulietEcho 1 year ago
Bitter End has provided a sample of their lower face mask for testing. I was pleased with its performance for dental protection. It allowed bb fragments to pass through, though. Its inability to prevent bb fragments would be unacceptable for eye protection where the eyes are much more vulnerable than teeth.

@auburnmedicalgroup
That's great to hear! I'll probably end up wearing a balaclava under it for added protection (against coughing, haha).
Thanks for replying to my comments. It's nice to see someone who posts such useful information actually _communicating_ with their viewers.
CharlieJulietEcho 1 year ago
I can't comment specifically on that combination because we haven't tested combinations. I would love to try out a neoprene mask, but no one has sent one in for testing yet. There is always the option of the Hakkotsu Iron Face mask or the Bitter End lower face mask for lower mid-face protection.
auburnmedicalgroup 1 year ago
Wow, so paintball masks are useless for airsoft?
I've used the JT series and know that they are some of the best. But man... that sucks. Looks like the best option for full face protection in airsoft is the Hakkotsu face mask and FlakJak's.
CharlieJulietEcho 1 year ago
The JT masks tested in this video provided eye protection, but they allow bb's to pass through the lower face portion. There may be other paintball masks providing better protection, but I have not tested them yet.

Hey there love what you are doing and I would like to see what you think of the Empire Vents Cylus paintball mask. Been playing airsoft for a long time now and it's far and away the best mask I've found for airsoft if you desire mouth protection, though there is one tiny spot right in the middle that a bb can get though, I can say after hundreds of games I've never had one get through. If you do some shopping around you can find them for under $40 with shipping.
offbeatrobotics 1 year ago
I appreciate that you have had good use of the Empire Vents Cylus. I will not be testing any more masks with holes large enough to pass a bb. I base my recommendations on that one in one-thousand shot that could get through and cost thousands of dollars in dental bills and inconvenience. Given the number of people who watch these videos, I have to keep the highest standard in what I recommend. I am concerned with protecting the ONE person who could get injured from using a particular mask.

Hm, interesting. No JT Predator? That's what I use and it has saved my face so many times.
berger0424 1 year ago
I am not able to find a JT Predator to test. It would not be expected to provide any better protection than the Carnivore or Flex 8 if it has face openings which are not any smaller than those maasks.

@auburnmedicalgroup Thank you. and I shouldn't even have posted that anyways, I think I have a raptor LOL.

It'd be nice to see this in slow motion with a high speed camera.

For being masks made for paintball they held up pretty well to a much smaller projectile.
MickeyWMartin 1 year ago
Those masks are originally designed for paintball, which is why the gaps are so big because the paintball woun't go through, it will just shatter and paint will go through but it allows for good ventallation

I'm going to add this to my favs list. This is information that people should find helpful. Its a very good video series. 5stars as well.
I've been into airsoft for some 10 years now. My small advice is to also find OTHER eye protection and debunk them as safe.
Work shop classes/goggles, cheap china brand glasses that come with some airsoft models, even sunglasses.
All these should be shown so people can see that they are unsafe.
Take care. Great vid

Thanks GrayArc,
We shot video of testing a wire mesh mask and a pair of safety glasses. I will be posting these videos as future installments of Dr. Airsoft, Practical Testing.
auburnmedicalgroup 1 year ago
i actually tested that myself and i concluded that after a number of shots, the wire mesh will eventually break. i used an airsoft gun that shot 415 fps w/ .20g bbs. not only that, some of the bbs shattered and went through the wire mesh ones.
