This song is just perfect, in my opinion. The rhythm change is subtle enough to feel natural (thanks to Joe's fluid drumming), and the structure begs for every instrument to improvise at least a bit.
My god, how is Joe Morello THAT good? The drumming during Paul's solo is just.. I can't even put it into words. How can he play in two time signatures at once (almost) and make it sound so natural??
@ubernaffa I know right? I myself am a rocker (both in what I listen to - for the most part- and a drummer) and I still can't grasp what it is that makes jazz drummers so unique and talented when it comes to breaking the time barrier. When I think to rock drummers like Peart who've done great tributes to Buddy Rich I just have to wonder how they do it.
Hopy shit, I know this song. I'm in my first year of learning the bass (classical) and this melody was a song under the "Jazz and Java" header. I didn't see what was so jazzy about it; now I know!
You can tell they had a lot of fun together, and wow did they mesh well. Joe Marello (RIP), wow he was fantastic. They don't try to override each other in any way, it just flows so well together.
Maravilhoso. Three to get ready mostra um Brubeck exuberante no seu estilo minimalista, quando lhe convinha. Gênio.
Agree with many of the comments below. Great sound, fluid changes, and they're having so much fun. Love the syncopation of Dave's chords at about 2:50 over both the 3s and the 4s.
They have so much fun with tune. They're all laughing at joe's solo and paul's wail. Great music that swings. THis is great, and beautiful quality and sound.
Amazing

The art or science of combining vocal or instrumental sounds (or both) to produce beauty of form, harmony, and expression of emotion. Ex: This.

Instead of 'no description available,' the info box for this one should read 'no description necessary.' Too cool.

Wow, the video quality of this is amazing, especially considering the age.
Love this song, as well as the rest of the album. Paul Desmond is fantastic.

Brubeck is great i. e. was. If you like this, you also may appreciate "take five" or "blue rondo à la turk".
