  • Great video! What was the video camera used for the kite?

  • Thanks - the camera was a Pentax Optio W20 ( I have since lost it :( )

  • Awesome! Makes me want to go out sailing right now.

  • Great video, great boat/yacht and all in the beautiful Alaska. I'll try to add to this with footage from my FC 10 in Sweden.

  • Excellent video! The editing is fantastic.

I'm considering trying the kite cam while sailing this year and as you've managed to make it really stable it's great to have the info in the above comment. The kite cam footage of your tack is great :)

  • Thanks!

  • BEAUTIFULLY produced. Lots of work put into this vid and it shows well. You should shoot with a HD 3CCM camera and sell commercially. You've got good footage and great editing. Somebody there has the eye. Good luck.

  • Great vid. Great effort. As a sailor and someone who has travelled/worked in Alaska I really appreciated it. Now to talk the wife into sailing up there....

  • I miss sailing in Alaska. Thanks for bringing back great memories.

  • Very innovative kite cam. Boat owner/skipper is obviously a very accomplished sailor.

  • Great video, great scenary and kite cam footage, let us know what camera and kite combo , gotta give that a go from my boat thanks:)

  • Thanks for the comments. The camera is a Pentax Optio W20, the kite is a Sutton FlowForm 8 with a 10ft "fluffy" tail. (The 8 is plenty big enough for the camera in 8knots apparent or more, launching anything bigger from the cockpit might be tricky.) I made a spool winder, definitely helps when retreiving the kite. I used a simple pendulum rig to mount the camera, and ran some of the footage through the DeShaker filter (in VirtualDub)to reduce some of the movement.
