I remember how the staff brought the Assassin back for a mini-event during MxO's last weeks. I was on the Syntax server following witness reports and chasing him through Downtown. Some other players ended up taking him out, though.
This game was awesome but unfortunately WB sold the rights to SOE which most people know is the death of all mmo's. they shut down a game that had an extreme amount of potential. and even if a good gaming company wanted to remake the Matrix online the couldn't because SOE refuses to part with MxO rights.
in my opinion this game would have done a lot better had they advertised it, they did not advertise this game at all, except for the extras menu in the last matrix move.
I think they should remake this game but using a system where you would have to jack in to get in the game. Like literally have a freaking plug put in the back of your neck. Oh lord. That would be the end of my collage fund.

The agents are part of a mission series back in the day. So instead of regular goons, agents spawned on appropriate levels. To defeat an original agent was impossible, the level cap was level 50 and the agent spawning (when you were in a restricted area) were level 255.
No I mean that it turns out that the matrix online instead of being an awesome groundbreaking MMO as I'd kept hoping it was it's an extremely generic WoW/ultima/whatever clone (I think WoW was released after Matrix online though). It's a little disappointing.

Glad I never played that game, because it's nothing like the movies, and it's pretty damn gay looking. If you're going to make a game based on a movie, then the game needs to be exactly like the movie in gameplay(or at least as close as you can get it).
@Kultivater if you do your facts the game was a continuation from the ending of the films, so making them as close to the events in the films is just stupid as you only have a few locations to play in, and only characters shown, its just not how mmos work, and yeah its graphics wernt exactly special for 2004 but there we go

this game was recently closed btw for all you people asking where to get it :P The game, I have never played...I hadn't even heard of the Matrix till 2004 when my friend showed me his Matrix PS2 game. After that in around 2007-2008 I saw one of the last two Matrix movies on TV but not the whole thing I think it was Reloaded. Anyways I didn't even know this game existed till recently and I think it was a major hit :P Too bad I didn't play it...

@ParadoxJuice I thoroughly disagree with you. The graphics and the animations are poor. It looks turn based and to top it off, you don't even have to do anything. You just click the attack command and sit back and let the characters do whatever they need. I find it highly unrealistic seeing as in this game you can take hundreds of hits from bullets and not be phased. In both the Matrix and real life, bullets kill you. I had to shorten this post because I ran out of characters. 500th character->.

Personally, I can't find any idea to how this game would ever success. Who wants to play a game where you know it's possible to bend all the rules in the world, when you still can't since you're not Neo? And if you can dodge all the bullets, then how can you ever become the best when there are other people who can do the same things as you? No, what I meant is that the movies is about a fantasy world created by the machines, where the world is based on codes as every computer script. Only a pro can bend them all - like Neo or the computer itself. Now, why would the game be fun to play when you know it's possible to fly or see through walls, when you can't do it yourself? I would never play a limited game that has a unlimited history.
Only one person can do that though, and it is only the anomoly known as Neo in this version of the Matrix, but Neo gave is life in the salvation of of Zion, and thus his "defected" code was never recycled into the Matrix, so no being after him would ever have the powers that Neo had.
Is that said in the game or something? 'Cause as far as I know, Neo was one of five or six "The one" made of a system failure by the machines. Just as "The Kid" who unplugged himself from the Matrix into the real world caused by strong will and system failure. Or am I wrong?
No, that is what is said in the movies.. there were 5 OTHER "ones" before him, and every time Zion was destroy'd the "one" for that version of the Matrix would pick so many people to rebuild Zion and then would pick one other person in the Matrix to inherit his abilites, Neo was chosen by the "one" in the Matrix version before him, and since Neo gave his life for the salvation of Zion, his code was never recycled, and thus there would never be another "one".
This was probably the most unpolished MMO I've ever played, and I couldn't even make it through the two-week trial before giving up on it. It's a shame because the nature of the franchise should have led to this becoming one of the best MMOs on the market, but it was poorly implemented, poorly designed and overall a really frustrating experience. I'm not surprised it's shutting down.

the game was really good just no support from the creators. Would never have fallen if soe had given it some support. people didnt start leaving till we didnt get any real upgrades and by the time they did start putting in some good new contend the community was cut in half

this game was recently closed btw for all you people asking where to get it :P The game, I have never played...I hadn't even heard of the Matrix till 2004 when my friend showed me his Matrix PS2 game. After that in around 2007-2008 I saw one of the last two Matrix movies on TV but not the whole thing I think it was Reloaded. Anyways I didn't even know this game existed till recently and I think it was a major hit :P Too bad I didn't play it...

This game looks amazing. Every aspect of it, amazing.
It seems people agree with me when I say we should set up some private servers. Would it be possible to make those private servers free of charge? If so, how do you start one?

@GammingGirl GOD DON'T SAY THAT TS NOT TRUE!!!, LOOK UP ON THE INTERNET THE MATRIX ONLINE IS ALREADY BACK!!! its called The Matrix Online Emu simple computer scripters and hackers brought it back for good and its almost fully restored to being just the way sony left it before they pulled the plug LOOK IT UP!

@ParadoxJuice I thoroughly disagree with you. The graphics and the animations are poor. It looks turn based and to top it off, you don't even have to do anything. You just click the attack command and sit back and let the characters do whatever they need. I find it highly unrealistic seeing as in this game you can take hundreds of hits from bullets and not be phased. In both the Matrix and real life, bullets kill you. I had to shorten this post because I ran out of characters. 500th character->.

@ParadoxJuice good news, THE MATRIX ONLINE IS NOT DEAD look up on google and search for The Matrix Online Emu and go to the forums you'll see its alive and well from lovly computer hackers that let you own your own server :D

@ParadoxJuice People are making an emulator of this game, which isn't finished yet.
All you can do in it is run about and chat to people.
Not combat, or jumping or, well, not much really.
It will be finished in time though. ;p

Called a "video game". How does Master Chief carry so many things at once and endure the pressure he does when newbie players play as him? Its a video game, the odds he's stacked against are insirmountable...How does Mario take on an army of evil Turtles? Its a video game. How do you survive shots like that in the Matrix? Personally, I can't find any idea to how this game would ever success. Who wants to play a game where you know it's possible to bend all the rules in the world, when you still can't since you're not Neo? And if you can dodge all the bullets, then how can you ever become the best when there are other people who can do the same things as you? Sorry, but this was a bad idea in my opinion, but that might just be my lack of fantasy.. (For the record: No movie will ever become better than the Matrix)

So what you're saying is that unless you can become a "god" or become the literal "best" in a fictional universe, that universe is not worth exploring? That's sad.

No, what I meant is that the movies is about a fantasy world created by the machines, where the world is based on codes as every computer script. Only a pro can bend them all - like Neo or the computer itself. Now, why would the game be fun to play when you know it's possible to fly or see through walls, when you can't do it yourself? I would never play a limited game that has a unlimited history.

Only one person can do that though, and it is only the anomoly known as Neo in this version of the Matrix, but Neo gave is life in the salvation of of Zion, and thus his "defected" code was never recycled into the Matrix, so no being after him would ever have the powers that Neo had.

Is that said in the game or something? 'Cause as far as I know, Neo was one of five or six "The one" made of a system failure by the machines. Just as "The Kid" who unplugged himself from the Matrix into the real world caused by strong will and system failure. Or am I wrong?

No, that is what is said in the movies.. there were 5 OTHER "ones" before him, and every time Zion was destroy'd the "one" for that version of the Matrix would pick so many people to rebuild Zion and then would pick one other person in the Matrix to inherit his abilites, Neo was chosen by the "one" in the Matrix version before him, and since Neo gave his life for the salvation of Zion, his code was never recycled, and thus there would never be another "one".

This was probably the most unpolished MMO I've ever played, and I couldn't even make it through the two-week trial before giving up on it. It's a shame because the nature of the franchise should have led to this becoming one of the best MMOs on the market, but it was poorly implemented, poorly designed and overall a really frustrating experience. I'm not surprised it's shutting down.
