Not bad for DnB...But mostly because I'm not much into DnB anyway. Love how you used that old joke from WoW. It's sounds like the soundtrack of someone destroying WoW in an epic fashion actually. And the only one who can stand up against it all is Ol' Leeroy... xD
Hey dude Sick track, What do you use on your drums to bring out that warm round punch so much. I've been trying to get into Neuro but cant find that tone...
I've got some.. layers, and some New York Compression going on along with what I think would be the right EQ settings.... Or is it all in the samples you use?
find a low snare with a good amount of 180-220hz and a short, punchy transient, then a thick mid and a snappy high snare (the high and mid snares can have some tail to them). shelve the frequencies so there isn't a lot of cancellation going on (you already probably know about this), and then slap some fuckin tape distortion on there to fatten and add bigness! for kicks, look for 1 with a sharp transient and 1 with a fat bass oomph to it and same thing:)
do you rate reaper very high? I've used the reaper, fl studio and reason trials and I'm struggling to decide which to settle on. Of course reaper is far cheaper than both but it seems to be somewhat limited, especially for what I want to make with it (drum and bass/occassional dubstep), but i'm impressed with this track.. did you use any other software at all to help you out? to make the bassline etc? Thanks for any response.
@lordjoey88 yes, I cant rate it high enough! I was using FLstudio for 5 Years before moving to Reaper , using reaper for a year now, and never looked back. Much more powerful, FLStudio is good, but Reaper is better in the long run in my opinion, It doesn't have much in the way of VST's but if you get external plugins it's fine, I use Native instruments Massive for my basslines, Kontakt as my sampler, guitar rig 3 distortion, I get a lot of single drum hit's from vengeance sample pack s
@lordjoey88 out of those 3 DAW's you suggested I would go for reaper, the only other one's I would reccommend would be logic, cubase and ableton. Reason doesn't have VST support which is a massive ball ache, FL Studio's audio is very 'clip' based which can make certain things like lining up single drum hits with sliced breaks a nightmare as you have to load the sample in edison. I honestly can't recommend reaper enough
@Barabandnb lol there are no loops used. all drums are single hits programmed directly into the sequencer, ie not using a drum sampler, there are lots of benefits of doing things this way ie having envelopes for each hit and being able to process each hit with seperate effects easier. and the bass is made with synths and then resampled as audio and chopped and resampled again,
@JDMP how exactly do ug et each single hit to fit in the sequencer like say u want 1/16 or 1/32 it seems to lock me in to where i can only put a sample every bar. get back to me if u understand my question thanks :)
@Dimension4Dubstep Press Alt + L Change the snap settings to whatever you want, else you can hold shift and drag, but obviously using (alt + L) is preferred as you can get everything lined up exact
@Dimension4Dubstep wherever the cursor is press [s] and it will slice it. if you select the sample and press [tab] it will move to the next transient (this is particularly useful when slicing up drum breaks) if it is snapping u can click and drag along the time bar to scrub through the track to where ever you want to cut it
@JDMP makes sense mann thankss alott! really helpn me with this transition from reason to reaper but so far im diggin reaper waaaay more. so much more control over EVERYTHING. but ya mann ill be hittn u up in the future with sum Q's if thats cool with u! :)
ya i have been meaning to, in a month or 2 i will, moving house right now and studio all packed up, need external soundcard to speak into mic and run Reaper at the same time, but i WILL get round to it eventually :)
reaper still works normal after the demo expires if you like it you can pay for it, if you dont pay for it you can still use it at normal there's just a 5 second screen saying how long you've been using it for ;)
if u need help just post questions on here and ill try to answer as best i can (Y), if you are used to flstudio it will be harder than if you've used logic/cubase etc
if your used to flstudio its hard work, you have to change tour enture workflow from pattern based to linear based like cubase/logic etc... umm its free to dl and use from their website, its frustrating learning how to do things again differently, unless you are quite advanced in fl and are looking for something more i wouldnt reeeally recommend it, also its doesnt have any built in samples/synths, so u'll need to use massive and have your own sample library etc but the routing and eqs etc > Fls
also i got a different skin on from the original, the defaul is naff, if u use fl i recommend ' red Glow II' or 3 from the skins download section on the website helped me from feeling flstudio homesick when i first switched
use TAB then pres S then Tab then S to slice up looped beats press alt+L change ur grid settings to 8ths or 16ths then put seperate hits on seperates tracks like kicks on 1 track all snares on 1 track, just move them in the main sequence part to make ur drum beat, hold alt and drag the sides to time stretch let go of alt drag the sides to loop those are the most useful tips to get u started anything else just ask
PFF i can't get a good neurofunk snare myself, good neurofunk snares are hard to make
