From the look of the wear pattern I'd guess that these were not bedded in before tracking them? The cracks are caused by the temperature difference AND the structure loss from the holes (showing that - yes they are cooling - and, yes, those holes to create weak points).
Personally, on a track vehicle, I think slotting without the holes is better as the temperature delta is spread over a larger area and the strength is hardly compromised at all... just a theory, though ;-)
This is what happens when you drill holes in rotors. The cracks are all orignating at the holes, where expansion/contraction occurs and a higher rate than it does away from the hole. If you need better stopping power or brake fade is an issue, get bigger rotors (you can get aftermarket kits for most cars/trucks). The Viper did it that way. Very basic brakes -- no holes, no grooves, not even ABS, just really big.
I would suspect this was caused partially by not having bed them in properly... Ive been running similar rotors on my mustang and i run them hard on some downhill canyon blasts (20 mins worth with a LOT of hard breaking) and they are great even after 70k km on them...
just get a good set of pads service your calipers and clean them and get solid (undrilled or sloted) rotors way better than aftermarket rotors like this
I just replaced them about 6 months ago brand new bendix pads all four.
Then I just found out like a month ago it males loud squeeking noises or sound when applying bakes. So I had a look took out the tyre and found cracks on the pads but was still thick. Any reason why?
thats what you get for using cross drilled rotors. cross drilling is a gimick. porsche only uses it because 1. they are cast with the holes in them to make them less prone to cracking. and 2. they claim it offers better braking in the rain.
NAPA parts are shit. I got some pads installed on my car and the grip is awful and they continually leave deposits so I have herky jerky braking when I come to a stop and shudders at higher speed.
drilled discs are notorious for cracking anyway, theyre only really meant to be used for proper track use where they will be replaced after a session anyway, for road use the most you need for a long life as well as being efficient is just grooved discs
@Sandeep9201 dont listen to him.. regular use not beatin the shit out of them they last longer then regular ones and i got mine cheap.. ceramic pads i still have life left on the pads and whatnot i put around 30,000 miles on them and i race around i dont drive like a bitch,.. if ur smart u cant fuck them up really cuz they dissapate heat better which makes it harder to warp them or glaze them. i press hard let off for a second to let them cool off. cheap brand lastin me almost 40000 sounds good
@Sandeep9201 They can be turned, just have to set the lathe at the slowest setting. Drilled rotors are prone to cracking like that, I'd just get slotted.
well if u have the money buy carbon brakes ;) u will never have the problem again :D they only work at 300 degrees but looks like u have no problem with that ;)
There was no sound. There was just a really bad pulsation/vibration coming from the front end when i hit the brakes and there was a LOT of brake fade.
Looks like one of those cheap Pepboys/Auto Zone drill/slot rotor that cost 40buck a piece.. Trust me I had them on my car. But mine are never that bad cause I don't use cheap Brake Pad. I use Hawk's Performance Pad.
the holes are also a epicenter of Cooling/ Heating over and over again which stresses out the area...along with the fact that the hole itself naturally enduces the crack to start. thats why real no ebay brake sys use same holes that arnt for looks. or dimpled/slotted.
yeah if the rotors are drilled after they are forged or whatever, they need to be drilled on different radii from the center and then heat treated, the other alternative is forging them with the holes which also work. but i heard solid vented rotors are the best.
could have been. i'm not sure. I have a set of Frozen rotors now and I do not like them. I had better stopping power with the NAPA's even with the short life.
awe slap em back on and go..... whats the worse that could happen???

So how do you know when a rotor has broken.
exnol 2 months ago
I would only get slotted. drilled brakes not really ideal for track use as the hole in the rotor compromise the structure integrity.

@razehey return them to the manufacture, they are faulty, that shouldn't happen under any circumstances,

@razehey that noises from your brakes and squeaking could be the ball joint.

No need to drill holes in good rotors they just crack as you found out.

how much extra was it for the drilled and slotted vs the standard rotor?

how many miles you put in your rotor before it was broken. What brand of rotor did you use.

Do the drilled rotor's with pads last longer than regualar rotor's with pads?
Sandeep9201 1 year ago
@Sandeep9201 --- nope, they ware faster but perform better.
drivefast6969 1 year ago 2
@Sandeep9201 The performance is hardly noticeable, and wear out a lot faster. I had them on my G35 and the stock were better.
Just upgrade pads with ceramics (most newer cars already have them) other than that the slotted/drilled rotors are a gimmick.
The "diffuse gas" argument is null, that was only necessary with older cars.
agenthelios1 1 year ago
@agenthelios1 good luck with ceramic brakes...gotta replace rotors almost every time you use ceramic brake pads

Those are very cheap rotors. eBay quality the slots should never ever go all the way to the edge. Your luckly they didn't j break completly.

cheap-made rotors
good quallity rotors never look like these after overheated...
ktosi11 2 years ago 2
If they are the cheap-made rotors, then they will crack with or without holes. The holes help to give an edge that can crack.
WalkGood 2 years ago
@WalkGood the holes help dissipate heat
Charles090891 2 years ago
@charles ..... not this time!
Can't take a cheap rotor, and drill holes after they are heat treated. That rotor would have been better off NOT being drilled.
