@Mechagnomics No it`s call staccato.....he plays with his right hand fingers instead of his bow,and normaly with his left hand but on top of that,he`s(muffing or palm muting) with his right hand....thats insane how the technik is perfect.
@Mechagnomics It's called "left hand pizzicato": the strings are plucked (and fingered) with the left hand, and occasionally the bow hits the string for a note or two also (in place of the pluck). The very beginning alternates plucks and bow "touches" and the descending scale at the end is all left had pizz. I've played this; it's not a hard technique once you get the appropriate calluses! LOL!
You can listen to all your life in this caprice. My favourite part is from 2:10 to 2:47 I would expect nothing less from a great composer like Paganini and a great performer like Perlman.
Wow... I have listened to his recital last week and I am being amazed by his high violin technic and deep feeling in music. Of course, Paganini deserves the highest honour. I admire both of them.
@ElizaAcheron Itzhak Perlman. you can purchase his performances of each caprice on iTunes. I love his approach to these pieces. he really makes them speak.

god. i totally agree on the open e-string. dunno if this is a recording issue, but is off-puttingat the start and, once in mind, you're always listening for it and hurt when it sounds. otherwise (as usual) brilliant.

Does it stick out as terribly different in tone from the other notes in the "tonal context"?
