A disaster waiting to happen. I've never seen this type of spotting on squats of any form. Nor would I suggest this to any lifter of any style of lifting. Kevin could do without this moron in his videos. Sorry just being honest.
@shakeri84 how much can u squat u fool? If I was squatting my usual 450-500lbs below parallel and my spotter tried to spot me like this I'd tell him to fuck right off! look at the writings of charles poliquin, gray cook, gary gray and maybe visit elitefts.com instead of listening to these gay bodybuilder's.
I learned more from powerlifters, weightlifters and S&C coaches than I ever did from bodybuilders
Un-fucking-believable,what a pile of horseshit, even with 40kg on the bar you can see that it's throwing the squatter off balance. Why would you pull one shoulder back and the push the opposite side hip forward creating rotational forces on a loaded spine?
This coach should be shot,I'd rather get my gf to spot me than this moron. Stay off the crack dude and go down a real gym where they lift real weights and you'll see how quickly how wrong you are lmao!!!!!
I just dont like the foot on the side. A guy steps on the at foot and disaster happens. O yah, Im certified through the NSCA-CSCS, ACSM, US Olympic Weightlifting and I have a bachelors and masters in Kinesiology.
I agree with nenzi, in all of my power meets and personal training seminars I have never seen this technique used. I would never use it with any of my clients, or even mention it to them for that matter.
omg you idiots.... he was demonstrating how to support someone's form to guarantee optimum muscle stress....not how to prevent "death by squat" lol....
Sorry dude. I dont agree at all despite your qualifications. In every power meet I have been to the spotter is directly behind. These guys are squatting upwards of 1000lbs. Try hooking a guy like you said with 500 lbs on his back. It won't work. You dont have the strength in one arm to pull up 500. Also, by standing to the side if you pull to one side like that the man can possibly be pulled off balance. I will spot the traditional way.
stop refering to science shakeri. this is wrong spotting technique. actually its the other way around: what you are talking about sounds like muscle mag nonsense. im out.
If you reach under one armpit and support the weight, but not the other, you're going to throw the weight to the opposite side - which this video showed.
You placing your right hand on his L3 vertabrae is going to do nothing to help the weight thrown over to his right side.
He will be in a state of imbalance! And if he has 500lb on the bar, he could be in serious trouble.
Nevermind all this guy's qualifications, he needs a PhD in common sense!
Great explanation overall. I don't use his technique but I respect it. I see there is others here that think they know fuc.nk more then the rest of the world. If there so good, why don't they make their own youtube videos.
shakeri..my critique of his spotting technique has zero to do with any kind of macho mentality. he is simply preaching incorrect and dangerous spotting technique.
reading anatomi doesnt have anything to do with the issue at hand. dont try to talk about other stuff.
lol. you dont know what your talking about shakeri and if he sounds like the teacher at your personal training school then your teacher is a scam artist too. most of the ceriticates are just 2 day bullshit courses.
this guy doesnt know jack shit. end of story.
what he is doing is making the exercises MORE dangerous and its defintaly incorrect spotting. i explained why in my earlier post. its sad that so much desinformation is spread about training and nutrition.
@DeathSledge thats cos ur a fuckin fool,go suck kev n 'coach's' dick,u a bigger retard for accepting their shit as gospel, maybe he could put his finger up ur ass too while ur squatting for 'glute activation' looooooooooooooooooooollll!!!!!!!!
Yeh with 500lbs on your back you're gonna be able to hook him up and push the pelvis...BULLSHIT...the person will drop the bar off his shoulders and hopefully squash coach with him. I think coach is trying to take advantage (jump on to Kev Levrones's boat) of the situation. Discussing a technique not really thought about before (spotting squats) and trying to get a promo out of it. May be wrong but it seems that way. I've never had a spot for squats and I can squat 315lbs.
The best way to spot imo is to have someone put both arms underneath your armpits... the spotter has better leverage that way and can instantly take 100+ lbs off if they are somewhat strong and know what they are doing... seems to me when i have someone pushing on my pelvis i get off balance.. dont like it all. A former bodybuilder at my gym taught me this and it works great trust me... Told me about squatting 400 lbs and a 120 lb girl litterally able to pick him up outta the hole
If Kevin Levrone believes it might be useful for certain part of bodybuilders, I sure pay good attention. Remember about being open to new? Its up to everyone to make his own try, and then his own decision.
Thanks mr Levrone, i`ll try the technique next week!
for all you form police fuck u thats all it got to say and everyone has there own technique so damn chill the fuck out. and in the first place if you cant handle the weight don do it.
This is NOT a accepted spotting technique in the strength & conditioning field. The fact it is incredibly dangerous from the foot position aside, in a real world application, no spotter could properly distribute the support and it will cause bending of the spine which is the last thing a fatigued lifter needs under a heavy load.
new spot technique, ..what we knew was the old one, like holding the lower belly of the one who is squatting with two hands following the squat motion right behind..Thanks Coach!!
I pushing the pelvis forward to make the hip rotate back up again is brilliant. I had a monitor at my gym spot me on the squat a few times but he really didn't know what he was doing.
I much prefer a squat cage at all times, you can train to failure and not risk injury.
my only problem is that he hooks one side and presses the opposite side of the pelvis... torquing the spine.... also ith the spotters leg so far forward, for the lifter dumps the weight behind them (lets go of the bar so it fals back) then the spotter will take the barbell on the knee potentially breaking it... one last question.... if this is the proper technique to spot a squatter... then have i never seen this is ANY powerlifting federation??
i'm sorry but this is not a good technique.... you put urself (spotter) at risk of having your knee and femor shattered... and you put the squatter at risk with increasingly heavier weight if this tech is used the rotational force used on the spine will pop a disk pull/tear muscles or, if great enough force is used, paralyze the squatter... no one should be using the technique nor should they be teaching it
You don´t have to feel sorry about your opinion!!! :D Like i said before i prefer "Old School techniques" too , feel much safer when squatting´, more control on the movement !! With cage or without it (as someone else mentioned), my choice will allways be "old style"!!
no humberto. it does NOT look like a good technique to teach young guys. what this guy is demonstrating is nothing but nonsense..in other words someone who is trying to sound like he knows what he is talking about but has zero clue about how to spot...and in this case its also dangerous advice as you never 'push' on one side of the body as it may cause twisting of the back (that goes for his weird hooking and when racking the bar). this is in addition to the other critizism i mentioned below.
I agree this is very well explained. I never complained of course because i know that if Kev is asking someone for a spot, he's not going to just ask any random person, he has a reason for why he does things. After all this is Kev we're talking about here c'mon guys...but either way thanks alot for this vid Kev, the 500's coming i can feel it...oh and btw Kev..HOW ABOUT A STRIVE FOR 500 DEADLIFT CHALLENGE?!? hahaha...had to ask...5/5.

How to Spot a Squatter:
1. Stand behind the squatter.
2.Grab them under their chest through their armpits when they begin to struggle.
3.Help them with the natural movement of the squat so they can finish the rep.
