It's actually not a myth. The US supplied satellite recon from the Keyhole series of satellites (which was already at the Falklands' latitude and didn't need to be "re-tasked") as well as missiles and aircraft fuel.
The American satellites were tasked with spying on the USSR, the US refused to retask them and given the orbits they were in they had naff all coverage of Argentina anyway. A first year student of orbital mechanics can easily show what utter crap these claims are.
Funny you should say that because I HAVE studied orbital mechanics and satellites tasked with spying on the USSR were generally placed in polar orbits due to Russia's high latitude. This means they orbit Earth longitudinally instead of laterally like most satellites. They had just as much coverage of the South Atlantic as they did Russia and were used to provide intelligence to British forces.

So what happen to the your navy? It seemed that it was happy to stay in port. We had to transport all our supplies over a 8,000 air/sea bridge. If you look at the Vulcan attack, this could have gone the other way and attacked the mainland.
More troops could of gone, we were well out numbered, on paper we should never had landed on the islands, but we did and we re-took them, down to the training and proffessionalism of the British armed forces.

Had britian taken the internationally condemded actions of attacking argentina first, then it would have been a war, and britian would not have suffered the loses it did. Also if you read Maggies memoirs she said that attacking the main land was being considered...but the professionalism and quality of our forces which did us proud meant that such attacks were not needed.The sub CONQ also could of attacked ships in port but as usual in war we behaved with dignity and a sense of fair play....that was the difference between us and them in the war...proffessionalism,dignity,kit and sheer determination set us apart and the rest say is history.

Firstly I'm not British. Secondly, they only sent the forces that they thought were necessary to take the islands. Had they sent half of their military capabilites to wipe out argentina's navy and airforce, before landing on the islands, there would have been international uproar about excessive use of power. Losing the ships, choppers and aircraft they did was a consequence of politics, not military wrongdoing. Your really missing the point of it all.

The fleet sent to fight against us was the biggest since ww2 and it consisted in about 2/3 of the British sea power. They lost more of EVERYTHING,especially aircraft over 4 times as many as us.We still had our land based aircraft, PHANTOMS,JAGUARS,BUCCANEERS ETC AT HOME.We had hunderds of aircraft at home half a dozen more subs,nearly 20 more warships. AS WE HAD LARGER NUMBERS OF EVERYTHING IN THE ARMED SERVICES IF THEY WERE IN TACT WE MUST OF BEEN...CHECK THE FIGURES,IF THEY ARE IN TACT WE MUST OF BEEN "SUPER INTACT".One other figure is they had 1.068 wounded us 777. THEY COULD'NT KEEP UP WITH SUCH LOSSES.

I have been watching the discussion and I can see a problem: what percentage of damage is allowed to say that the forces were ALMOST INTACT? Withot defining this the discussion makes little sense, because it can only be said that there was damage, there was no total distruction, but I think it would be too much to say "almost intact". However, I would count only irreversible losses, so I wouldn't count the prisoners.

Argentina have held these isles for 2 years 7 months since they were first charted more than 400 years ago, hardly a claim there then. I think most of our satellite intelligence came from the USSR & was delivered via Norway. I can't see a problem with accepting help anyway. patoruzitornnfkvkvbk - An English explorer called John Davis accidentally discovered these isles in 1592, he landed on West Falkland, this pre-dates anything you've mentioned. We left a plaque stating our sovereignty over them although didn't settle until later. Spain subsequently landed there & also left a plaque - bit late really to be valid, but that's why AR think it could be included in their independence agreement from Spain.

Urban myth, the Americans refused to retask satellites that were spying on the USSR. Thats why the British tried to develop their own recon sats.

It's actually not a myth. The US supplied satellite recon from the Keyhole series of satellites (which was already at the Falklands' latitude and didn't need to be "re-tasked") as well as missiles and aircraft fuel.

The American satellites were tasked with spying on the USSR, the US refused to retask them and given the orbits they were in they had naff all coverage of Argentina anyway. A first year student of orbital mechanics can easily show what utter crap these claims are.

Funny you should say that because I HAVE studied orbital mechanics and satellites tasked with spying on the USSR were generally placed in polar orbits due to Russia's high latitude. This means they orbit Earth longitudinally instead of laterally like most satellites. They had just as much coverage of the South Atlantic as they did Russia and were used to provide intelligence to British forces.
