"Through steel walls Your voice blastin' on True rebel my brother Mumia I reflect upon You be tha spark That set tha prairie fires on Make tha masses a mastodon path To trample tha fascists on At fifteen exposed Philly's finest killing machine With boots and mad guns They tried to pacify you young Cause and effect Smell tha smoke and tha breeze My panther my brother We are at war until you're free"
the way the world is, that wont work on a grand scale. the soviet union is proof, as is china. The people suffered greatly under the regimes of both countries. It is not the way to go.
There's no way you're going to present the soviet union and china as examples of socialism's failure without global context. If we are to see them as "failures" we will have to understand it in relationship to how capitalist first world states encircle them (Cuba a prime example) and induces failure through a variety of methods (violent military coercion a la the contras, a popular tactic used). If we want to look at things "that won't work on a grand scale" global capitalism is most iconic.
no one who has studied capitalist economics, ethnic studies, post-colonial studies, or women's studies would ever have casually said, "capitalism is a good thing".
too many cases and countries to name, showing time and time again that neoliberalism and globalization is FUNDAMENTALLY and BY DEFINITION a re-structuring of nations into neo-market-based-slavery. Trust, when i drop the "S" bomb i mean it. From Argentina to South Korea, Bolivia to the Philippines - pyramidical profits over people.
"Socialism is the ONLY answer for the world" - Amiri Baraka. I myself share this sentiment and statement wholeheartedly because if you truly look at capitalism's long trail of blood you begin to understand how so many of modern society's oppressive tropes (the formation of race and racism, the gender divide, class formation an obvious, homophobia, etc) are intimately linked with the division of labour the and the accruing of capital under such an economic system.
Capitalism is a good thing? We all do respect Bensonata, I think you need to re-think this statement. I live in the USA, and I have seen, in my 25 years of work life, capitalism destroy my country. Unlike the false world of celebrity that is portrayed on TV, poverty abounds because of capitalism's unequal distribution of wealth. I consider it a terrorist system. I respect your views, but I have only experienced a decline in the living standards of myself and my neighbors.
@bensonata199 If you mean poor for taken the time out of my day to respond to ridiculous emails, yest that is true. If you mean financially, no, I am not. I own my own transportation company. I think you need to come up with serious responses, better than something about a hovel. All to often conservatives simply do not provide facts and think things through. It is why so many "believe" in things they cannot prove, and are in the world of fantasy . I run into this all the time.
