  • hey im thinking about buying windows xp to use on my macbook pro. i just got it its a 2010 and i want to play soldier front and maybe some other games idk. but yea do you think the macbook can run it without lagging alot? im new to this stuff. i just use windows xp and bootcamp right?

  • @92Cera there should be no problem running Soldier Front on a 2010 MacBook Pro. It doesn't require a high end computer. Keep in mind that the 13" GPUs are about 10-15% slower then mine and the 15" and 17" have 60-75% faster GPUs then mine. Enjoy your mac!

  • @strigani PS use Bootcamp and install Window XP or Vista and you're good to go!

  • is bootcamp necessary or can it be run regularly

  • very good video, just what i need, cause i have te same computer and whant to know if i can play te game no lag and still have ut look awesome!

  • Song: Cowgirl by Underworld

(as listed in 'more info') Cheers

  • Just to let you know UT3 coming out for mac version. I think Mac soft is making it no aspyr, thank god.

MacSoft I think is the best mac ports. anyways, that's cool. Did you have problems running XP? Vista is such a bitch on new aluminum ones.

  • No problems with XP whatsoever.

  • @strigani 7 runs like a dream! absolutely loving it!

  • ahah it's coming, right... but when?! I think we are gonna wait again for a loooong time. I just hope i'm wrong

  • I think it's few month. It on apple site under games I think.

  • its not, i checked

  • what song is this?

  • Awesome song!

So there should be no issues running this on a '09 MacBook Pro? (Using BootCamp)?

  • nope, not that I'm aware of. The 9600M is 10-20% faster then my 8600M graphics card :-)

  • Getting the Macbook Pro myself , God !!! That thing looks like it kicks major ass !! Wow !!!

  • go for it but dont expect a gaming rig :D it will cope but thats not what its for :D

  • yes

and be warned, it really gets hot when your using graphic intensive applications

I felt dizzy when I played COD4(pc version) on my MBP

and... get an elevator(something that'll raise the Mbp and not block it's vent, the one I have is "podium coolpad")

  • I have an external screen (244t by samsung) and the Macbook Pro standing on a 'mstand' (by rain design), works like a charm!

  • that's a very sexy elevator you have there:))

your lucky you have an external screen, I'm only using the laptop screen:( oh well:))

  • beautifull graphics.. I should quit OA, buy a new pc and get into new competitive online arena style shooters...

  • thx

  • So, there's NO way to play UT3 on Mac Book Pro, itself?! I don't know anything about this stuff... but I just tried to install UT3 and UT2004 on my brand new Mac, and nothing happened... I click on something within the UT3 DVD Disc icon, click on one of the files inside of it, and it says, "there were no applications found", or something similar to this...

  • Dude did you install Windows XP / Vista with Bootcamp assistant? You really need that to play Windows games on a Mac. Goodluck!

  • well... there is another way to play windows games on a mac

    *cough* unofficial cider port *cough*

  • can i ask something? what is an "unofficial cider port *cough*? if u don't mind. thx...

  • its where you get porting software of questionable legality and use it.

  • oooh....

  • I play UT2004 on my MPB flawelessly...just install and go(in OSX, by the way)

  • Cowgirl by Underworld :)

  • what is the songname???

  • how is the ghosting on the LCD screen? i have an old powerbook, and the ghosting is terrible... any idea as to what millisecond delay there is on the macbook screens?

  • It's an LED screen now, and maybe it's just me. But I have no (noticeble) ghosting during games. I don't know the response time of the screen though.

  • cool.

  • Please, help me, i dont know how to play games on my macbook, cause there is a problem if the shader, actually, using the vmware with the win xp, but do not identify my graphic card. Did you have this kind of problems?

  • Macbooks can't run new games properly because of the onboard graphics chip. Only some less demanding games. And if you're planning to game on a mac, I recommend Bootcamp. VMWare and Parallels are not made for gaming, and lack support for a graphics card. Goodluck!

  • oh so i have 90 gbs of accelerated hdd ram

  • could the macbook play these kinds of games?

  • No they won't, the onboard graphics chip isn't suited for these kind of jobs..The macbook is a nice little notebook, but for animation / movies & gaming you need a better video card.

  • I don't get it. I thought the Macbook Pro wasn't a gaming machine? That's what all the Alienware people said. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Yeah, right!

  • Haha well it's not a gaming notebook, but it runs games pretty good :) For thick notebooks with crazy performance (raid HD's / dual videocards etc) I would say go Alienware. Me I prefer a light weight well designed high performance mobile desktop ^^

  • I've had a Macbook Pro for over a year, and I never have had problems playing games like Tombraider: Anniversary, Neverwinter Nights 2, World of Warcraft and 3D shooters, too. I guess yours might be slower than mine. I have the 17" 2.4GHZ Macbook Pro. It never has lagged in a game. Ever. Actually, I would never own Alienware. It sucks compared to a Macbook Pro at the top end. Apple makes better use of Ram. By the way, get you a Logitech USB 2.0 joystick from the Apple store. I love mine.

  • Gotta love Mac OS X ^^

  • I just have one question. What control were you using on UT 3? Logitech? I have a Logitech for my Macbook Pro USB 2.0. It is the best joystick I've ever owned, and it only cost me $19 at the Apple store. It works AWESOME in Tombraider: Anniversary, too.

  • Usually Apple wireless keyboard and Razer mouse (pro solutions v1.6) or the mouse and MBP keyboard.

  • Are you playing at 1440x900?

Thanks for sharing your experience with MBP.

  • I recommend 1088x612 or 960x600 for best visual and gaming performance :) I'm running UT3 on 1088x612.

  • strigani, I play games at 1680x1050 on my 17" Macbook Pro and never get slow down. It rocks.

  • Did you overclock you're system? Or don't you run the game at Maximum? High High 100% etc / FPS? I can run the game @ 1400x900 but then I won't have the 55-75 FPS.

  • Overclock the GPU? Heck no! I run this 17" MBP with 256 megs of video ram, and I've maxed out every single setting on every single game I've played, and it never lags. I would never overclock a GPU in a Macintosh notebook. The slight benefit you might get is not worth the overclock. Not every game runs at the same FPS, and you can have the most jamming video card of all time, but if that game was not sculpted for that card, it won't match some other card with less video ram.

  • I have the 15" version of your notebook, same specs with additional 4gb ram & 7200 rpm hd. I can run the game on 1440x900 with 25-30 FPS (everything maxxed) but as a fanatic shooter player I need more FPS. That's the main reason why I'm playing on a lower resolution

  • Well, the 17" monitor and the 1680x1050 makes it a good bit faster. I didn't realize the difference until I read on it and had a conversation with someone about it. It's a good bit faster with that larger monitor.

  • Oh, yeah, I also have 4GB in mine, too. Gotta love it. :)

  • That's why these kids who overclock their GPUs in their Macbook Pros don't realize what they're doing. You can have the same card, and compare FPS on one game to another game, and there are sometimes differences. Sometimes, it doesn't even have to do with the hardware. Overclocking is useless. The benefits aren't worth the issues. Apple's got a reason they set it where it's at. But, in iTunes, I get up to 60+ FPS.

  • The 17" MacBook Pro 2.4GHz runs as much as 11% faster than the 15" model. That's probably why I don't have any slowness on games like you're talking about. It's totally smooth. 3D gaming all.

  • Didn't know that :) Ahwell we both have great notebooks ^^ Enjoy! Cheers

  • Wait a minute, my MacBook's specs are identical to yours other than the 4 gigs of RAM. UT2004 still has some framerate dips with everything on high, so how can you get this to run so smoothly? Does the extra 2 gigs really do that much?

  • Windows XP Pro 32-bit can only adress 3GB so I don't think that's the difference. Do you have the 2.4 Merom (previous version) MBP? What resolution do you use at UT3? Did you install the latest Nvidia drivers?

  • I never tried UT3. It's only since it doesn't run UT2004 as well as I thought, how can the next in the series run better? I heard that UT3 scales better for lower range machines; is this the case?

  • My Experience is that UT2004 Runs even better then UT3. But Maybe it's because you try to run UT2004 in Mac OS X? Gaming in Mac OS X is cool, but games run better in Windows.

  • About how much would you think it runs for now? They don't have it at my local walmart lol

  • I think the OEM version of XP Pro will be around 100-120 Euro's. And can be ordered online or at a local PC shop.

  • These are the kind of people I like on youtube. Nice and polite responses to everyone's comments. Good video man. I am begging my parents to let my buy xp so I can run boot camp. I have already bought UT3!! what would you say is the best xp version for gaming?

  • Thanks for your nice comment aswell. Glad people appreaciate these vids. I would say XP Pro, because it supports multi CPUs and has better network options. (I don't know if these things have changed during the last few years?) So maybe a little research will come in hand if Pro is way more expensive.

  • What's the song?

  • Cowgirl - Underworld

    Enjoy!

  • hey im sorry to bother u again but one last question. i got a128 bit gddr pci express 8600m gt 512mb graphics card is it ddr2?

  • Don't know, is there a website with ur laptop specifications? If so, you should be able to get the right information there. Goodluck!

  • i wont bother u with questions anymore thanks with helpin me with my probs btw

  • no problem :) enjoy ! and glad I could help.

  • lol thats the prob i didnt buy one yet and wanna make sure...sorry lol

  • it is lcd.. i got the 15 inch model.. and do i have the ddr2? i couldnt tell with what i told you you could tell that i got ddr2 right? anyways i got the peryn proccessor do u think it will equal out me having a better proccessor and yuou haveing a beetter graphics card

  • Let's just say we both have nice (gaming) notebooks :) Try to run some games and see for yourself ^^

  • is the res difference huge between 1680x1050 and 1440x900? Does it make games run faster or look better?

  • The DDR3 card is better then the DDR2 graphics card. About the screen; is it LED backlid or LCD? Besides that, in most cases the higher resolution the better, but not all games run good @ High on those resolutions. So check it out yourself m8 :D (btw did u get a 17" model?)

  • its a penryn but not dd3 i have 128 bit gddr pci express

  • lol kool i dont mean to be an ass when i ask this but is mine better than yours? i mean playing games wise?

  • Is the CPU a Penryn Intel Core 2 Duo CPU and does the GeForce has DDR3 ram? If that's so they will perform about the same & ur's will be a little better then mine for gaming.

  • o and what is your fps?

  • About 50+ FPS average

  • i dont mean to be rude but with your specs u prob paid more than $2500 on your labtop right? I payed $1300 and got better specs go look up the sager np2029 or 2092 i forget. It has 2.5ghz 4gb ram nad 8600m gt with not 256mb but 512mb o and the res is 1680x1050

  • True, 1 year ago I payed something like that for my MBP. You made a good deal. Is it a 17" model? Anyways, I prefer Mac OS X over any os on the planet / slick design & portability and long battery life. But for gaming and stuff you got a nice notebook there, enjoy! :)

  • ps Let's just say that we both have different tastes and demands from a notebook, which is a good thing. Respected ^^

  • i dunno should i get 250gb harddrive 7200rpm

or should i get 320gb with 5400rpm i am stuck on this situation...

  • that depends on your demands. do you prefer storage over a minor speed increase? I don't know the increase in performance @ gaming but I picked the faster drive because the HD is one of the 'slowest' components in a notebook. And I also run Final Cut Pro / Motion on my Macbook Pro, which run a bit faster on a 7200rpm hard drive.

  • u said the 8600 is a good card but do u think that the 8700 is alot better or just slightly better please tell me

  • The 8700m is slightly better, but the 8800m is much better but only fits in fatty 17" gaming notebooks.

  • k ty

  • can u use a 360 controller if u hooked it up to your computer for ut3?

  • don't know, never tried that. But I have my wii hoocked up to my Macbook Pro so maybe a xbox controller is possible aswell. Goodluck m8

  • specs:

    2.5Ghz Core 2 Duo

    4gb dual channel ram

    5400 RPM HD 250 GB

    GeForce 8600M GT 512MB

will these specs run better than yours? please answer and also do u think the 8600m gt graphics look better than the 360 or the ps3?

  • To be honnest I think they will run about the same. Maybe that config will run it a bit better, but not significant. The 8600m is a nice video card, but can't properly use the 512 MB. The only small diffirence can only be noticed @ high resolution gaming. The 360 will perform better then the macbook pro, but that's what u should expect from a hd console. For me I prefer mouse and keyboard ;)

  • Patch UT3? @ What FPS do u run UT3 atm?

(What is the resolution? Just incase, you can use FRAPS to check the FPS)

  • Wow, I have the same machine and mine doesn't run THIS good!

  • weird, maybe try to run an upgrade?

  • Nothing to upgrade, our machines are identical. That's why I'm puzzled.

  • song??

  • underground - cowgirl

  • hey man douse anyone know how much a PC like this one tht would run games this well would run in proce?

  • ? Sorry m8 but I don't understand this question

  • i think he means that, is there a PC similar to your configuration that runs as well as yours, at a good/similar price

  • ahh kk, that sure is possible. But u won't have mac os x and all that power in a notebook ;)

  • is the music by that1guy? sounds like him. Epic is bringing this to mac, and i'll be getting it then.

  • Hey, i'm buying a macbook 2gb and like 2.4ghz .. and I have the doubt if it'll run on my mac... cause I heard that the Macbook doesn't have a good video card so can you please respond...

I would greatly thank you :D

  • The Macbook is a good working horse for non vidio intens tasks. Like Photoshop / Illustrator etc. But for vidio intens tasks like 3D rendering you really need the Pro. Because of the difference in Videocards. So for Motion (3d rendering)/ Maya (3d modelling) / Gaming that is. If you would like to run games like UT3, a Pro would be the way to go. Hope this helped m8 GL!

  • Thanks a lot!!

I'll have to earn some cash because I might study special effects and video editing... and some 3d animations

So the pro is the way to go (wow that rhymed!!)

    Thanks a lot

  • hey I got almost the same config, but with the standard 2gb, will it decrease my performance greatly you think? love how smooth it runs!!!!

  • Don't think so. The reason I got the extra Ram is because Im a graphic design student. So I run loads of CPU and Ram eating programs. Cheers ^^

  • thx man! think I'm going to need it anyway if I ever want to work properly with final cut pro.. mac ownt. greetzz

  • well properly.. you can work with FCP with 2GB but you know what they say about ram :) The more the better ^^

  • what does santa rosa platform mean???

  • The code-name Santa Rosa refers to the fourth-generation Centrino platform, which was released on Wednesday 9 May 2007. For more info check wikipedia m8 :)

  • Thanks i needed that to but by the way... ur pretty pro if u ask me :)

  • Nice performance love this song - Cowgirl by Underworld :D

  • You forgot an important information: is this a 15" macbook pro? Anyway, nice vid ;)

  • Changed video info, it's an 15inch :) ty m8

  • Thank you! It's just because i'm about to buy the new Macbook Pro and was wondering, which one I should choose. The 15 inch version or the 17 inch. Thank you for your reply :)

  • PS the resolution is 1088x612 and as you can see it runs pretty smooth. :)

  • All graphics are maxed out. The average fps I have is 45+, with drops to 29 fps and peaks on 69 fps. I'm not a pro and posted this video just to demo UT3 on a MBP. Demo contains a DM and parts of Warfare, enjoy the video!

Stats of my 15 inch Macbook Pro:

2.4 Ghz Core 2 Duo (santa rosa platform)

    4GB dual channel ram

    160GB 7200 RPM HD

    Geforce 8600M GT 256MB GDDR3

ps I increased the speed on the loading times, ingame footage is realtime.
