Thank you for sharing this rare video with the world showing Donna singing one of her early hits. Rare videos are gems! Donna at her best even if she was just starting with her music career.
This footage is fantastic!! This song is mostly always overlooked on compilation CD's just as 'The Hostage' and that's a shame 'cause they're great songs! Thank you!! :-)
This is the best I have heard her sing. It shows she can cover folk rock as well as disco and pop. I am one of her biggest-young fans, I'm 14 and she is better than any singer nowadays!
Donna Donna. one of the most precious voice in the world. for ever and before disco music. she a queen. for her beauty, talent, and sensibility. a lot of thanks to Moroder, Bellote, Jabara, Jones, Summer, Springsteen, Manilow and much more writters and musicians for help this eternal queen. DONNA SUMMER thanks thanks thanks
I love this! Geez - where does that voice come from? She's sooo good! I wish there were more singers out there like this TODAY that were heard. Instead of "studio produced" sounds we should have singers with great voices and musicality like Miss Summer here!
To me this - and nothing else - is Miss Donna's best vocal performance ever. It all seems so easy the way she's doing it (I'm not talking about this video - this is lip-sync, no doubt) but this track is a goddamn challenging one.
If anyone needs proof that she was one of the greatest performer of the disco era - HERE IT IS.
Great Euro pop music from an amazing artist. No one sounds like her. Donna is my favorite female singer ever!!!!!!!!!!!!! She is just simply amazing. No one can top her.
people like bobby vinton, glen campbell and the carpenters were having sucessful adult pop hits in the mid 1970s. this was a good song and if the words were changed maybe ti would have been a hit in the USA.
everyone would have thought the singer was white like they did for vicky sue robinson.
donna lost it after the late 1970s. new wave and madonna picked up where donna left off.
Donna states in the liner notes/booklet of the double cd DONNA SUMMER ANTHOLOGY c1993 that Moroder and co wanted her to, "hit on a more pop vain and we'd work in the R'nB later..." I love the whole album and this would've been a chart topper stateside. I didn't know of Donna until 1978 when "LAST DANCE," "HEAVEN KNOWS," and "I FEEL LOVE"(1977) was still getting airplay on the radio in early 1978. I remember 'cause I was recording music off onto blank cassette tapes from the radio. LOL!!!
I was fresh from Manila, Philippines as I emigrated to Chicago and arrived in June 16, 1978-I remember music was what I loved even though I didn't know a lick of English then. Eventually picked up phrases and enough to get by, by the end of the summer('78) and into fall.
this is the first time I hear this song .All my life I thought the first Donna' song was" Love to love you baby".I liked this unknown theme specially the sound of those spanish castañuelas .
I have this titled album on cd. My favorite song is "FRIENDS" she has impeccable range in voice on that song. I like this song also. This was her european breakthrough before hitting it big in the U.S.
Madonna had an unauthorized tv movie made about her. in one scene she confronts a dj & music rep who discourage her from putting her face out there because of this. She was quoted as saying "so what? that's a compliment if ppl think i sound black." Donna Summer is amazing. Beautiful song. Thanks for posting
that doesn't make sense since groups like ABBA experienced so much success stateside. The title might have been a little too suggestive for the hypocritical conservatives here. LOTN suggests prostitution. But then again, Lady Marmalade came out @ this same time. More than likely it was just a record label decision.
I saw this on a James Last TV special (James last was a german variety show on TV and it showcased dozens of artists and dancers etc really brilliant choreography and costumes) :-)
wow, thanks for posting. this is what makes youtube so special. i bet donna would be proud to know that this is here and in such clear and pristine quality.
I agree; I NEVER would have dreamed that she had made a video of this great, early song, let alone that I would get to see it for the first time so long after the song itself was released. THANK YOU DONNA AND JAVIBAL!!!

Greetings from Germany!
This is Su Kramer from Hamburg, performing "An evening in a big city" in 1975.
(with lyrics, so you can get an impression of the pronounciation while reading!)
Su Kramer remained Germany's most famous performer from the musical "HAIR"
