  • This is Mazukaze in Shito-Ryu. I wonder which name came first? Both Mabuni and Nagamine were both students of Itosu.

  • Thats how a kata is done! His hands are FAST!

  • I find it entertaining that people who know nothing about Shorin-Ryu or Matsubayashi Ryu like to talk smack about the sound the gi makes. He's not "hitting" himself in any way. He is driving the power from the hip and executing these moves properly. That's what makes the gi snap.

This is good old fashioned Okinawan Karate.

  • Exactly, ...a lot of these so-called karate-ka woundn't know the real if it was right in front of them,.....but wait, ....per this clip, it IS right in front of them. His snap and hip-rotation is the essence of Matsubayashi-Shorin-ryu and those that are unfamiliar with this technique need to GET familiar, otherwise sit down and watch the originators do it.

  • qué bien que suena la tela, mmm...

  • lets do the "wanking" kata

  • Seems like a lot of energy used to get his gi to make that cool sound : )

  • powerfull and fast. nice.

    wado ryu?

  • @nicholaspye Matsubayashi Shorin-ryu

  • @nicholaspye Matsubayashi Shorin-Ryu

  • Hahahaa omg, look at yourself!!! O_O

You are destroying the technic, the kihon. just because it have to sound so much!-_-

You know you arms look like rubber and looks like no power, the rythem looks wrong too, even if it isn´t. And one more thing, STOP HIT YOURSELF TO MAKE NOISE!!! THAT´S 100000 MINUS IN A COMPETITION

  • Addex1,

I don't know what style you practice, but in Shorin-Ryu, it is considered proper technique to hear the "pop" of the gi. The power of your movements makes the gi snap. Sensei Sindt performs this kata beautifully in this video and his technique and form is near perfect.

  • that is correct. it takes speed and proper technique to make the gi snap. which means you are striking/blocking correctly. if you know what you're doing that is.

  • @addeex1 I know your comment is three years old now, but I just wanted to add that Kata was never meant for competition, and this kata is correctly done in a traditional Okinawan Karate fashion. The school which this student is from (Matsubayashi Shorin-Ryu) frowns upon tournament Karate as it (sport Karate) distorts the original essence of the Karate to a certain degree.
