It is not difficult to factor out common factor (x+1) so the answer can be obtained very quickly 2/x=1 so x = 2 right away. Most of the time students shall learn how to solve the problem so student can learn the "method" and only the method can not be found then "plug in " method shall be used.

Sometimes, you can see quick shortcuts that will work well, so always look for this first. If you don't see this, this method is always useful and can save you time.
